Trauma is a prevalent cause of coagulopathy, with traumatic brain injury (TBI) accompanied by coagulation disorders particularly linked to adverse outcomes. TBI is distinguished by minimal bleeding volume and unique injury sites, which precipitate complex coagulation disturbances. Historically, research into trauma-induced coagulopathy has primarily concentrated on the molecular biology and pathophysiology of endogenous anticoagulation and inflammation.

Introduction: Aneurysms on the posterior inferior cerebellar artery (PICA) may not be the major part of intracranial aneurysm. Especially, an aneurysm located on the bilateral posterior inferior cerebellar anastomotic artery has abnormal anatomical characteristics in the vessel wall and then causes stroke including subarachnoid hemorrhage. This case report explores the direct resection of a ruptured aneurysm associated with the bilateral anomalous anastomotic artery of PICA.

Electronic address:

Ischemic stroke (IS) is a major cause of morbidity and mortality worldwide, accounting for 75-80% of all strokes. Under conditions of ischemia and hypoxia, neurons suffer damage or death, leading to a series of secondary immune reactions. Microglia, the earliest activated immune cells, can exert neurotoxic or neuroprotective effects on neurons through secretion of factors.

This study aimed to determine the expression levels of runt-related transcription factor 3 (RUNX3) and caudal-related homeobox 2 (CDX2) in patients with chronic gastritis, intestinal metaplasia, atypical hyperplasia, and gastric cancer (GC). To analyze the overexpression of CDX2 and the effects of resveratrol (Res) on MKN7 and TMK1 cells, immunohistochemical staining was performed to determine the protein expression levels in tissue samples. The biological activity of MKN7 and TMK1 cells was determined.

A practical method for the retrieval of tulip-head polyaxial pedicle screw by reusing the rod in revision and implants removal surgery: introduction of technique and evaluation of clinical outcomes.

BMC Surg

June 2023

Department of Spinal Surgery, Beijing Shijitan Hospital, Capital Medical University, No. 10, Tieyi Road, Yangfangdian street, Haidian District, Beijing, 10038, People's Republic of China.

Background: The removal of spinal implants is needed in revision surgery or in some cases whose fracture had healed or fusion had occurred. The slip of polyaxial screw or mismatch of instruments would make this simple procedure intractable. Here we introduce a simple and practical method to address this clinical dilemma.

Department of Orthopedics, Tongji Hospital, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, No. 1095, Jiefang Avenue, Qiaokou District, Wuhan, 430030, Hubei Province, People's Republic of China.

Background: Accumulating evidence indicates that intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD) is associated with diabetes mellitus (DM), while the underlying mechanisms still remain elusive. Herein, the current study sought to explore the potential molecular mechanism of IDD in diabetic rats based on transcriptome sequencing data.

Methods: Streptozotocin (STZ)-induced diabetes mellitus type 1 (T1DM) rats were used to obtain the nucleus pulposus tissues for transcriptome sequencing.

Ferrostatin-1 (Fer-1), an inhibitor of ferroptosis, is implicated in intervertebral disc degeneration (IDD). The current study explored the role of Fer-1 in IDD via the toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4)/NF-κB signaling pathway. IDD-related gene expression microarray GSE124272 and high-throughput sequencing data set GSE175710 were obtained through the Gene Expression Omnibus database.

Numerous work has revealed the involvement of circular RNA (circRNA) in regulating chemotherapy resistance. Here, we investigate circPIM3 role in taxol (Tax) resistance in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). CircPIM3, microRNA (miR)-338-3p and tumor necrosis factor-alpha-induced protein-8 (TNFAIP8) expression were detected via quantitative real-time PCR, western blot or immunohistochemistry assay.

Objective: To explore the application values of deep-learning based artificial intelligence (AI) automatic classification system, on the differential diagnosis of non-lactating mastitis (NLM) and malignant breast tumors, its comparation with traditional ultrasound interpretations and the following interpretation conclusions made by the sonographers with various seniorities.

Methods: A total of 707 patients suffering from breast lesions (475 malignant breast tumors and 232 NLM), were selected from the following three medical centers, including Zhejiang Cancer Hospital, Hebei Province Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Yantai Affiliated Hospital of Binzhou Medical University, and the time period was set from April 2020 to September 2021. All selected cases firstly accepted the routine breast ultrasound diagnosis, followed by the interpretations from a senior sonographer with more than 15 years of work experience, and an intermediate-aged sonographer with more than 5 years of work experience, independently.

Trichosporon are naturally found in external environments and are a part of the normal flora of the human skin, respiratory tract, and gastrointestinal tract. Disseminated Trichosporon infection occurs sporadically in patients with immunodeficiency, and is mainly manifested as blood, urine, catheter, and thorax/peritoneum infections, rarely as lymphatic, liver and spleen infections. Elevated blood eosinophil granulocyte from Trichosporon infection have rarely been reported.
