While there have been advances in the large-scale monitoring of forests, little is known about factors driving variations in crown shape with environmental conditions. In this study, a facile one-step route was used to synthesize a novel magnetic mesoporous greigite (FeS)-CTAB composite, which was utilized to remove hexavalent chromium (Cr(vi)). The optimized FeS-CTAB composite with a CTAB dosage of 0.75 g possessed the maximum specific surface, showing the highest Cr(vi) adsorption capacity of 330.

The functionalized tetrahydrochromeno[4',3':2,3]indolizino[8,7-]indoles were conveniently synthesized in high yields by one-pot domino reaction of tryptamines, alkyl propiolates and 2-aryl-3-nitro-2-chromenes. Under similar conditions, the one-pot reaction of tryptamines, alkyl propiolates and β-nitroalkenes resulted in functionalized tetrahydroindolizino[8,7-]indoles. The reaction mechanism involved sequential generation of β-enamino ester, Michael addition, Pictet-Spengler reaction and annulation process.

In this study, a novel magnetic nanocomposite was prepared using waste toner (WT) through high temperature decomposition, and calcination was conducted in different atmospheres (air, ammonia, and vacuum). WT calcined in ammonia (WT(NH)), and it was then utilized as an efficient absorbent for the reduction of Cr(vi) in aqueous solutions; a batch experiment with different conditions was performed to investigate its Cr(vi) removal ability. The effects of two pH-regulating acid (HCl and HSO) treatments were also studied.

The three-component reaction of 1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline, isatins and 3-phenacylideneoxindoles in refluxing ethanol afforded dispiro[indoline-3,1'-pyrrolo[2,1-]isoquinoline-3',3'-indolines] (4a-4x) in good yields 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of generated azomethine ylide with the exocyclic double bond of 3-phenacylideneoxindoles. H NMR spectra and single crystal structures indicated the reaction has high regioselectivity and diastereoselectivity. Furthermore, their biological activities have been preliminarily demonstrated by evaluation against mouse breast cancer cells 4T1 and human liver cancer cells HepG2 by MTT assay.

The one-pot four-component reaction of aromatic aldehydes, malononitrile, 1,3-thiazolidinedione and ethyl glycinate hydrochloride in ethanol in the presence of triethylamine afforded -dihydrothiophene ureidoformamide derivatives in moderate to good yields. The other α-amino acid ethyl esters resulted in the corresponding diastereoisomeric dihydrothiophene derivatives with various molecular ratios. The functionalized thiophene derivatives were also successfully prepared by sequential dehydrogenation reaction with DDQ.

Graphitic-phase carbon nitride (g-CN) materials are important polymeric and metal-free semiconductors, and have attracted extensive attention as emerging electrochemiluminescence (ECL) emitters due to their wonderful optical and electronic properties. The g-CN-based ECL sensing analysis, as a research hotspot in analytical chemistry, offers an exquisite pathway to monitor target analytes with the advantages of low background signal, high sensitivity, desirable controllability, and simple instrumentation. Herein, we briefly describe the current research status of g-CN-based ECL assays along with versatile signaling strategies, introduce the preparation methods and ECL emission mechanisms of g-CN-dependent emitters, summarize their ECL sensing applications from 2012 to now, highlighting with special examples of metal ion and small molecule detection, nucleic acid bioanalysis, immunoassay, protein sensing, and cell-related determination.

Bioactive and degradable scaffolds of nano magnesium silicate (n-MS)/zein (ZN)/poly(caprolactone) (PCL) ternary composites were prepared by 3D-printing method. The results showed that the 3D-printed scaffolds possessed controllable pore structure, and pore morphology, pore size, porosity and pore interconnectivity of the scaffolds can be efficiently adjusted. In addition, the apatite-mineralization ability of the scaffolds in simulated body fluids was obviously improved with the increase of ZN content, in which the scaffold with 20 w% ZN (C20) possessed excellent apatite-mineralization ability.

Soybean germination under stressful conditions, especially salt stress, has been verified to be an effective way of accumulating gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in dark-germinated soybeans. In this study, a combination of physiological characteristics and isobaric tags for relative and absolute quantitation (iTRAQ) in a proteomic-based approach was used to investigate the protein changes in dark-germinated soybeans under salt stress. A total of 201 differentially abundant proteins (DAPs) were identified and divided into 13 functional groups.

In composite photosynthetic systems, one most primary promise is to pursue the effect coupling among light harvesting, charge transfer, and catalytic kinetics. Herein, this study designs the reduced carbon dots (r-CDs) as both photon harvesters and photoelectron donors in combination with the platinum (Pt) clusters and fabricated the function-integrated r-CD/Pt photocatalyst through a photochemical route to control the anchoring of Pt clusters on r-CDs' surface for solar-driven hydrogen (H) generation. In the obtained r-CD/Pt composite, the r-CDs absorb solar photons and transform them into energetic electrons, which transfer to the Pt clusters with favorable charge separation for H evolution reaction (HER).
