Gut microbiomes play an essential role in host survival and local adaptation and thus can facilitate the invasion of host species. Biological invasions have been shown to be linked to the genetic properties of alien host species. It is thus plausible that the holobiont, the host, and its associated microbiome act as an entity to drive invasion success.

Peptidylarginine deiminase II (PADI2) converts positively charged arginine residues to neutrally charged citrulline, and this activity has been associated with the onset and progression of multiple cancers. However, a role for PADI2 in endometrial cancer (EC) has not been previously explored. This study demonstrates that PADI2 is positively associated with EC proregression.

Horizontal gene transfer facilitates the spread of antibiotic resistance genes, which constitutes a global challenge. However, the evolutionary trajectory of the mobile colistin resistome in bacteria is largely unknown. To investigate the coevolution and fitness cost of the colistin resistance genes in wild strains, different assays to uncover the genomic dynamics of and in bacterial populations are utilized.

A special self-designed device based on poly-1-vinyl-3-pentylimidazole hexafluorophosphate (PILs-C) solid-phase extraction and high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) is proposed as a novel method for the on-line separation and analysis of Rhodamine B (RhB) dye. Single factor experiment design and orthogonal experiment design were used to optimize the experimental parameters, such as pH, the amount of PILs-C, sample volume, flow rate, eluent type, eluent concentration, eluent volume, and the flow rate of eluent. Under the optimized conditions, the linear range was 0.

Post-surgery arthrofibrosis is one of the most restrictive factors in the development of intra-articular surgery and has presented tremendous obstacles for most orthopaedic surgeons. Tanshinone IIA (Tan IIA), a key active ingredient of Den-shen, has been used to treat fibrosis-related diseases, such as pulmonary, hepatic and myocardial fibrosis. In the present study, we aimed to investigate the effects of Tan IIA on post-surgery arthrofibrosis and .

To derive a mutant of SH2-1 with the capacity of weak postacidification and high texturing, first, taking frs4-1 and grx02 as the controls, H-ATPase activity was demonstrated to be highly related to the postacidification of SH2-1. Then, by detecting H-ATPase activity, the weak postacidify mutant of SH2-1 (renamed as sh2-5-66) was selected from 80 UV mutants. The pH and acidity of the milk fermented with sh2-5-66 were separately 0.

Parasite host shifts can impose a high selective pressure on novel hosts. Even though the coevolved systems can reveal fundamental aspects of host-parasite interactions, research often focuses on the new host-parasite relationships. This holds true for two ectoparasitic mite species, and , which have shifted hosts from Eastern honey bees, , to Western honey bees, , generating colony losses of these pollinators globally.

A new strategy for preparing mesoporous metal-doped bioactive glass fibers (MBGFs) was designed, which included electrospinning and sulfonating mesoporous PS fibers, precipitating metal ions and bioactive glass sol-gel precursor into the mesoporous polystyrene (PS) fibers and calcinations. Silver-doped mesoporous BGFs (Ag-MBGFs) with a uniform diameter of 1-2 μm and a specific surface area of 40.22 m g were prepared as an example and characterized by SEM, XRD, TG, ICP and FTIR.

In this work, a magnetic graphene oxide-ultrathin metal-organic framework composite (FeO@SiO-GO-Ni-MOF) was synthesized for the first time. Employing FeO@SiO-GO-Ni-MOF composite as extractant, a novel method for the separation and analysis of the pesticide epoxiconazole was established with the assistance of high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). The adsorption mechanisms were studied including by adsorption kinetics, thermodynamic parameters and adsorption isotherms.

At present, in vitro cell experiments have confirmed that RaddeaninA can effectively inhibit the proliferation of some tumor cells, but the effect of RaddeaninA on lung cancer cells has not been observed. Therefore, this study explored its effect on lung cancer cells and its mechanism of action. Human lung cancer cell lines were treated with serum-free medium and varied concentrations of Raddeanin A.

Influenza poses a severe threat to global health. Despite the whole inactivated virus (WIV)-based nasal vaccine being a promising strategy for influenza protection, the mucosal barrier is still a bottleneck of the nasal vaccine. Here, a catalytic mucosal adjuvant strategy for an influenza WIV nasal vaccine based on chitosan (CS) functionalized iron oxide nanozyme (IONzyme) is developed.

A long-term high-fat diet (HFD) leads to significant oxidative stress in the body and induces inflammation. A preliminary evidence suggests a potential therapeutic utility of probiotics for this condition. To evaluate the potential effect of DALI02 on the oxidative stress and inflammatory damage induced by HFD, we used a hyperlipidemic rat as a model fed with HFD.

Flumatinib versus Imatinib for Newly Diagnosed Chronic Phase Chronic Myeloid Leukemia: A Phase III, Randomized, Open-label, Multi-center FESTnd Study.

Clin Cancer Res

January 2021

State Key Laboratory of Experimental Hematology, National Clinical Research Center for Blood Diseases, Institute of Hematology, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences, Tianjin, P.R. China.

Purpose: Flumatinib has been shown to be a more potent inhibitor of BCR-ABL1 tyrosine kinase than imatinib. We evaluated the efficacy and safety of flumatinib versus imatinib, for first-line treatment of chronic phase Philadelphia chromosome-positive chronic myeloid leukemia (CML-CP).

Patients And Methods: In this study, 394 patients were randomized 1:1 to flumatinib 600 mg once daily ( = 196) or imatinib 400 mg once daily ( = 198) groups.

Previous studies reported that coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) was likely to result in liver injury. However, few studies investigated liver injury in patients with COVID-19 with chronic liver diseases. We described the clinical features in patients with COVID-19 with nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).

The accurate analysis of tumor related biomarkers is extremely critical in the diagnosis of the early stage cervical cancer. Herein, we designed a novel and inexpensive surface-enhanced Raman scattering-based lateral flow assay (SERS-based LFA) strip with a single test line, which was applied for the rapid and sensitive quantitative simultaneous analysis of SCCA and CA125 in serum samples from patients with cervical cancer. In the presence of target antigens, the monoclonal antibody-coupled and Raman reporter-labeled nano-Ag polydopamine nanospheres (PDA@Ag-NPs) aggregated on the test line modified by the polyclonal antibody to form a double-antibody sandwich structure.

RSC Adv

June 2020

Key Laboratory of Bioactive Substances and Resources Utilization of Chinese Herbal Medicine, Ministry of Education, Institute of Medicinal Plant Development, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College Beijing 100193 People's Republic of China

Isochaetoglobosin D is a new chaetoglobosin possessing a unique 3,4-substituted pyrrole ring isolated and named by Qiu , and it is different from any one of the 14 sub-types in the macrocyclic ring of chaetoglobosins classified in our previous work. Its chemical shift values, coupling constants and biosynthetic consideration implied that the proposed structure of isochaetoglobosin D was incorrect. In this report, based on detailed NMR data analysis together with biosynthetic consideration, the structure of isochaetoglobosin D is suggested to be revised to that of penochalasin C.
