Objective: To observe the effect of ventilator-induced lung injury (VILI) on blood-brain barrier permeability in rats.
Methods: Forty-eight healthy clean male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats were randomly divided into sham operation (Sham) group, low tidal volume (LVT) mechanical ventilation group (LVT group), normal tidal volume (NVT) mechanical ventilation group (NVT group) and high tidal volume (HVT) mechanical ventilation group (HVT group) with 12 rats in each group. After anesthesia, rats in the Sham group were intubated and kept spontaneous breathing.

Background: Spermatozoa have the task of delivering an intact paternal genome to the oocyte and supporting successful embryo development. The detection of sperm DNA fragmentation (SDF) has been emerging as a complementary test to conventional semen analysis for male infertility evaluation, but the mechanism leading to SDF and its impact on assisted reproduction remain unclear. Therefore, the study identified and analyzed the differentially expressed proteins of sperm with high and low SDF.

Research Question: What are the molecular mechanisms leading to human sperm DNA damage?
Design: Semen samples were collected and the sperm DNA fragmentation index (DFI) was assessed. Differentially expressed RNA in spermatozoa with a high (DFI ≥30%, experimental group) or normal (DFI <30%, control group) DFI were identified by RNA-sequencing (RNA-seq) technology, and Gene Ontology and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) analysis was performed. Three differentially expressed RNA related to sperm DNA damage and repair, namely PMS1, TP53BP1 and TLK2, were validated using real-time quantitative (RT-qPCR).

Objective: This study aimed to explore the impact of the sperm DNA fragmentation index (DFI) on the clinical outcomes in women undergoing artificial insemination by husband intrauterine insemination (AIH-IUI).
Methods: In this retrospective study, the value of sperm DFI was detected by sperm chromatin structure assay (SCSA) in a semen analysis collected before fertility treatment (basal DFI) in 1,500 IUI cycles at the infertility clinic of Northern Jiangsu People's Hospital Reproductive Medicine Center from Jan 2016 to April 2021. Receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves were used to calculate the cut-off value for the clinical outcomes of IUI, including the biochemical pregnancy rate, clinical pregnancy rate, delivery rate, and live birth rate, and multivariate logistic regression was conducted to analyse the risk factors for clinical outcomes after IUI.

Introduction: Vitamin K (VK) as a nutrient, is a cofactor in the carboxylation of osteocalcin (OC), which can bind with hydroxyapatite to promote bone mineralization and increase bone strength. However, some studies have been inconsistent on whether vitamin K2 (VK2) can maintain or improve bone mineral density (BMD) and reduce the incidence of fractures in postmenopausal women. Therefore, the main objective of this meta-analysis was to determine the effect of VK2 as a nutritional supplement on BMD and fracture incidence in postmenopausal women.

Purpose: Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is the sixth leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide and is characterized by metastasis and recurrence. We aimed to evaluate the expression of AKT1 and PLK1 in OSCC and identify their correlation with the clinical and histological features and prognosis of patients with OSCC.
Methods: Tissue samples were collected from 70 patients with OSCC and 50 patients with normal oral mucosa.

Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are associated with cancer progression. The present study aimed to examine the function of circRNA protein tyrosine phosphatase receptor type A (circRNA_PTPRA) in lung cancer cells and elucidate the underlying molecular mechanisms. The levels of circRNA_PTPRA and microRNA (miRNA/miR)-582-3p were measured in lung cancer tissue and cells using reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR).

An enriched environment is used as a behavioral intervention therapy that applies sensory, motor, and social stimulation, and has been used in basic and clinical research of various neurological diseases. In this study, we established mouse models of photothrombotic stroke and, 24 hours later, raised them in a standard, enriched, or isolated environment for 4 weeks. Compared with the mice raised in a standard environment, the cognitive function of mice raised in an enriched environment was better and the pathological damage in the hippocampal CA1 region was remarkably alleviated.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most common internal malignancies worldwide and is associated with a poor prognosis. Abnormal expression of miRNAs is believed to play a role in the recurrent metastasis of HCC. However, limited studies on the role of miRNAs in HCC metastasis have been carried out.

Background: Gonadotropin-releasing hormone analog (GnRHa) is the mainstream treatment for central precocious puberty (CPP). However, its effect on the ovarian reserve in CPP girls remains unclear. This study was designed to analyze the changes of ovarian reserve in CPP girls during and after GnRHa therapy, with an attempt to achieve the early prediction of the effect of GnRHa treatment on the reproductive function of CPP girls, eliminate the concerns of girls and their parents on the potential toxicities of GnRHa treatment, and improve the patients' adherence to treatment.

The aim of this study was to investigate the potential anti-inflammatory effect of Conyzacanadeusis methanol extract (CME) using a cell model of RAW264.7 murine macrophage cell stimulated with lipopolysaccharide (LPS)(1μg/ml). Co-treatment with different concentrations (10, 50 and 100μg/ml) of CME was concentration-dependently reduced the LPS-induced generation of prostaglandin E2 (PGE2), nitric oxide (NO) tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α), interleukin (IL)-1β and IL-6.

The present study was designed to investigate the protective effect of ethanol extracts from Lindera coreana leaves (LCE) on UVB-induced oxidative stress in HaCaT keratinocytes. The HaCaT cells were pretreated with LCE for 24 h and then exposed to UVB (20 mJ/cm(2)) for 2 h. UVB significantly decreased the cell viability (p<0.

The present study investigated the protective effect of methanolic extract from Fuzhuan brick‑tea (FME) on hydrogen peroxide (H2O2)‑induced oxidative stress in the human intestinal epithelial adenocarcinoma cell line Caco‑2. Caco‑2 cells were pretreated with different concentrations (50, 100 and 200 µg/ml) of FME for 2 h and then exposed to H2O2 (1 mM) for 6 h. FME did not exhibit a significant cytotoxic effect and increased the cell viability following H2O2 treatment by decreasing lipid peroxidation in Caco‑2 cells.

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease caused by abnormal immune regulation and excessive production of autoantibodies, which characterized by T and B cell dysfunction and excessive production of pathological cytokines and autoantibodies. Vascular endothelia and subendothelial collagen were injured by harmful antibodies, so that the body was in a thrombophilic state, increasing the multi-system and multi-organ damage of body. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSC) are as multipotent cells, capable of multilineage differentiation, self-renewal, homing, inflammatory chemotaxis, immune regulation and reconstruction.
