Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to explore the relationship between folic acid (FA) supplementation and the incidence of hypertensive disorders and preeclampsia in pregnant women in Jiangsu Province, China.
  • Data was collected from 10,662 women who gave birth between January 2017 and December 2018, comparing those who took different dosages of FA supplements, including multivitamins combined with FA.
  • Results showed that women taking multivitamins with 0.8 mg of FA had the lowest risk of hypertensive disorders and preeclampsia, suggesting that higher FA intake may be beneficial during early pregnancy.

Background: Evidence supports an association between cholestatic liver disease and changes in microbiome composition. Nevertheless, the identification of this special type of biliary atresia from non-biliary atresia cholestasis is still a major clinical difficulty. The purpose of this study is to compare the differences in the composition of gut microbiome between infants with biliary atresia and infant with non-biliary atrestic cholestasis, to find new ways to identify and diagnose these two diseases early, to understand the influence of the presence or absence of bile on the composition of the gut microbiome in infants with cholestasis.

Accumulating evidence validates that aerobic glycolysis is involved in chemotherapy resistance in human malignant tumors. In the present study, we explored the role of exosome-delivered circular RNA DLGAP4 (circDLGAP4), a novel identified circRNAs, in the chemoresistance of neuroblastoma (NB) cells. Our study demonstrated that doxorubicin-resistant cells expressed higher HK2, accompanied with enhanced glycolysis.

Association between the home environment and development among 3- to 11-month infants in Shanghai, China.

Child Care Health Dev

January 2022

Department of Women & Children's Health Care, Shanghai Key Laboratory of Maternal Fetal Medicine, Shanghai First Maternity and Infant Hospital, School of Medicine, Tongji University, Shanghai, China.

Background: Literature highlighted the home environment as a major factor influencing the overall development of children. However, minimal information is available about the home environment in China and especially in small infants. This survey was conducted to find out the association between the home environment and the early development of infants.

Sepsis is a systemic inflammatory response syndrome caused by infection, resulting in organ dysfunction. Sepsis-induced acute kidney injury (AKI) is one of the most common potential complications. Increasing reports have shown that M1 and M2 macrophages both take part in the progress of AKI by influencing the level of inflammatory factors and the cell death, including pyroptosis.

We aimed to investigate the effect of Kelch-like ECH-associated protein 1/NF-E2 p45-related factor 2 (Keap1/Nrf2) pathway on the biological function of trophoblast cells in oxidative stress model at the cellular level, and analyzed the expression level and clinical significance of Keap1/Nrf2 pathway and related antioxidant factors in placental tissues of Preeclampsia (PE) patients at clinical level. In present study, we found that under hypoxia/reoxygenation conditions, the activity of oxidative stress-related enzymes (CAT, GSH-Px, SOD) in HTR8/SVneo cells was significantly lower than that before treatment (P < .01).

Background: Our aim was to evaluate the clinical utility of non-invasive prenatal testing for pregnant women with different diagnostic indications.

Methods: In eight counties and districts of Yancheng, we studied 13,149 pregnant women with different indications who were offered NIPT for fetal screening, including for sex chromosomal aneuploidies (SCAs), rare autosomal trisomies (RATs), and subchromosomal copy number variations (CNVs). The purpose was to compare the detection of positive predictive values (PPVs) of different indications with the use of NIPT.

December 2019

Department of Genetics and Metabolism, Children's Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine, National Clinical Research Center for Child Health, Hangzhou, China.

Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is the most common neurodegenerative disorder and the leading genetic cause of infant mortality. Early detection of SMA through newborn screening (NBS) is essential to selecting pre-symptomatic treatment and ensuring optimal outcome, as well as, prompting the urgent need for effective screening methods. This study aimed to determine the feasibility of applying an Agena iPLEX SMA assay in NBS for SMA in China.

Department of Genetics and Metabolism, Children's Hospital of Zhejiang University School of Medicine, National Clinical Research Center for Child Health, Hangzhou, China.

To evaluate the feasibility of incorporating genetic screening for neonatal intrahepatic cholestasis, caused by citrin deficiency (NICCD), into the current newborn screening (NBS) program. We designed a high-throughput iPLEX genotyping assay to detect 28 SLC25A13 mutations in the Chinese population. From March 2018 to June 2018, 237 630 newborns were screened by tandem mass spectrometry at six hospitals.

Ovarian cancer (OC) is the leading cause of death from gynecological malignancy. Dual-specificity phosphatases (DUSPs) are proteins that are reported involved in carcinogenesis, but their roles in OC have not be extensively studied. Here, we found that DUSP5 is markedly down-regulated in OC tissues.
