Article Synopsis
  • Recent research indicates that N-acetyl-leucine is significantly lower in the saliva of diabetic patients, prompting this study to explore its presence in human nails as a potential diabetes marker.
  • The study employed a specialized chiral separation method using a C18 column and detected the substance with UPLC-ESI-MS/MS, achieving a high resolution and low limit of detection.
  • Findings reveal that levels of N-acetyl-leucine are significantly reduced in the fingernails of diabetic patients compared to those who are prediabetic and healthy, suggesting its potential use as an early warning biomarker for diabetes.

Glutamine is proven to have potential therapeutic effects on decreasing hyperoxia-induced acute pulmonary injury. The aim of this study is to investigate the effects and mechanism of glutamine on bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) induced by hyperoxia in rat alveolar type II epithelial cells (AECIIs) RLE-6TN. Following hyperoxia induction and glutamine treatment, ROS levels were detected by DCFH-DA assay and TUNEL staining was performed to detect cell apoptosis.

Electronic address:

Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG) has attracted the increasing attention of many researchers, especially in the field of tumor therapy. However, EGCG has poor fat solubility, low stability, low bioavailability, and a high effective dose in vivo. Traditional drug delivery methods are difficult to deliver the water-soluble EGCG efficiently and in high doses to tumor sites.

Yanbian University Hospital, Yanbian University, Yanji, 133002, People's Republic of China.

Background: As an organelle essential for intracellular energy supply, mitochondria are involved in intracellular metabolism and inflammation, and cell death. The interaction of mitochondria with the NLRP3 inflammasome in the development of lung diseases has been extensively studied. However, the exact mechanism by which mitochondria mediate the activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome and trigger lung disease is still unclear.

Exosomes are progressively being detected as an indicator for the diagnosis and prognosis of cancer in clinical settings. Many clinical trials have confirmed the impact of exosomes on tumor growth, particularly in anti-tumor immunity and immunosuppression of exosomes. Therefore, we developed a risk score based on genes found in glioblastoma-derived exosomes.

Background: Keloid (KD) is a unique pathological fibroproliferative disease that seriously affects the appearance of patients. This study investigated the effect of oleanolic acid (OA) on the proliferation of keloid fibroblasts (KFs) and the expression of extracellular matrix (ECM)-related proteins.

Methods: The proliferation of KFs was evaluated using an MTT assay.

Glutamine (Gln) is an immunomodulatory protein that mediates oxidative stress, inflammation, and apoptosis, but has not been reported in the treatment of hyperoxia (Hyp)-induced brain injury. The aim of this study was to determine whether Gln could improve hyp-induced brain injury in neonatal rats to and later learning and memory dysfunction, and to explore its possible mechanisms. We prepared a model of neonatal rat brain injury caused by normobaric hyperoxia while administered with Gln for 7 days for evaluation.

Background: Mussel adhesive protein (MAP) is extracted from the mycelial glands of marine mussels. It has anti-inflammatory properties and may relieve skin itching and other symptoms.

Aims: Based on the anti-inflammatory effect of MAP, this study was designed to treat sensitive skin (SS) using MAP delivered by skin microneedling.

Backgruound: Cross-talk between mitogen-activated protein kinase and estrogen has been reported; however, the role of BRAFV600E in the estrogen responsiveness of thyroid cancer is unknown. We elucidated the effect of BRAFV600E on the estrogen-induced increase in metastatic potential in thyroid cancer.

Methods: Using a pair of cell lines, human thyroid cell lines which harbor wild type BRAF gene (Nthy/WT) and Nthy/BRAFV600E (Nthy/V600E), the expression of estrogen receptors (ERs) and estrogen-induced metastatic phenotypes were evaluated.

Background: Pre-eclampsia (PE) is a pregnancy disorder that is related to an enhanced immune response. Immune cell characteristics such as neutrophil or monocyte to lymphocyte ratios (NLR, MLR) are known to be related to kidney and liver dysfunction in hypertensive patients. Here, we aimed to analyze the correlations between NLR, MLR and platelet to lymphocyte ratio (PLR) and liver, renal and coagulation functional parameters and the impacts of these immune cell profiles to the prognostic significance in PE patients.

December 2022

State Key Laboratory of Bioactive Substance and Function of Natural Medicines, Department of Pharmaceutics, Institute of Materia Medica, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College, Beijing, 100050, People's Republic of China.

Introduction: The blood-brain barrier (BBB) is a key obstacle to the delivery of drugs into the brain. Therefore, it is essential to develop an advanced drug delivery nanoplatform to solve this problem. We previously screened a small rabies virus glycoprotein 15 (RVG) peptide with 15 amino acids and observed that most of the RVG-modified nanoparticles entered the brain within 1 h of administration.

Cancer, as the second leading cause of death worldwide, has become an ongoing public health challenge and its treatment has received much attention, with immunotherapy becoming a hot research topic in recent years. The interferon gene stimulating factor (STING)-mediated signaling pathway has a "double-edged sword" role in cancer, which plays different roles in different types and stages of tumors. In this paper, we discuss the current research status, cooperation, and hotspots of STING signaling pathway in cancer from 2008-2022 using CiteSpace software based on the literature of cancer and STING signaling pathway.

We aimed to observe the effects of Echinochrome A (Ech A) on systemic changes using a rat model of preeclampsia. The results showed that an infusion of angiotensin II (Ang II) through an osmotic pump (1 μg/kg/min) on GD 8 increased systolic and diastolic blood pressures and reduced fetal weight and placental weight. The diameters of the glomeruli were expended and glomeruli capillaries were diminished.

Cathepsins can be found in the extracellular space, cytoplasm, and nucleus. It was initially suspected that the primary physiological function of the cathepsins was to break down intracellular protein, and that they also had a role in pathological processes including inflammation and apoptosis. However, the many actions of cathepsins outside the cell and their complicated biological impacts have garnered much interest.
