Mcam inhibits macrophage-mediated development of mammary gland through non-canonical Wnt signaling.

Nat Commun

January 2024

Key Laboratory of Genetic Evolution & Animal Models (Chinese Academy of Sciences), Chinese Academy of Sciences, Kunming, Yunnan, 650201, China.

Article Synopsis
  • This research explores the role of non-canonical Wnt signaling in adult stem cells, with a focus on Mcam as a negative regulator in mammary gland epithelial cells (MECs).
  • By using CRISPR-Cas9 knockout techniques, the study finds that losing Mcam enhances the growth and regenerative capabilities of MECs while also promoting their differentiation and structural development in knockout mice.
  • The mechanism involves Mcam knockout triggering macrophage activation through the Il4-Stat6 pathway, leading to increased secretion of Wnt5a, which interacts with the Ryk receptor to drive these developmental changes.

Microproteins, prevalent across all kingdoms of life, play a crucial role in cell physiology and human health. Although global gene transcription is widely explored and abundantly available, our understanding of microprotein functions using transcriptome data is still limited. To mitigate this problem, we present a database, Mip-mining ( https://weilab.

Background: Tumor radiotherapy combined with immunotherapy for solid tumors has been proposed, but tumor vascular structure abnormalities and immune microenvironment often affect the therapeutic effect of tumor, and multimodal imaging technology can provide more accurate and comprehensive information in tumor research. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the dynamic monitoring of tumor blood vessels and microenvironment induced by radiotherapy by magnetic resonance/photoacoustic (MR/PA) imaging, and to explore its application value in radiotherapy combined with immunotherapy.

Methods: The tumor-bearing mice were randomly allocated into six groups, which received different doses of radiation therapy (2 Gy ×14 or 8 Gy ×3) and anti-programmed death ligand-1 (PD-L1) antibody for two consecutive weeks.

November 2023

Central Laboratory of Yan'an Hospital Affiliated to Kunming Medical University, China; Key Laboratory of Tumor Immunological Prevention and Treatment, Yunnan Province, China; Yunnan Cell Biology and Clinical Translation Research Center, China. Electronic address:

CAR-T targeting CD19 have achieved significant effects in the treatment of B-line leukemia and lymphoma. However, the treated patients frequently relapsed and could not achieve complete remission. Therefore, improving the proliferation and cytotoxicity of CAR-T cells, reducing exhaustion and enhancing infiltration capacity are still issues to be solved.

Myocardial infarction impaired wall mechanics and hemodynamics in peripheral arteries.

Front Physiol

August 2023

PKU-HKUST Shenzhen-Hong Kong Institution, Shenzhen, Guangdong, China.

Article Synopsis
  • Myocardial infarction (MI) affects both heart function and peripheral arteries, significantly altering the stresses in the artery walls that may contribute to heart failure.
  • The study used coronary artery ligation in Wistar rats to simulate MI and examined changes in wall mechanics and blood flow.
  • Findings indicated that MI increased wall stiffness in both carotid and femoral arteries over a 3 to 6-week period, along with a decline in critical hemodynamic factors, highlighting the connection between systemic circulation changes and peripheral artery function during heart failure.
