Background: Our previous study demonstrated that microRNA-409-5p (miR-409-5p) and its target ubiquitin-specific protease 7 (USP7) were involved in hypoxia-induced cardiomyocyte injury and ischemic left ventricular remodeling (LVR) in rats. This study aimed to probe into the relationship between plasma miR-409-5p and USP7 levels and LVR and dysfunction in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI).

Methods: Sixty patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and 60 cases with chronic coronary syndrome (CCS) were enrolled.

Heavy metal (HM) contaminants are the emerging driving force for reshaping the microflora of plants by eradicating the non-tolerance and non-resistant microbes via their lethal effects. Seeds served as a prime source of ancestral microbial diversity hereditary transfer from generation to generation. However, the problem arises when they got exposed to metal contamination, does metal pollutant disrupt the delicate balance of microbial communities within seeds and lead to shifts in their microflora across generations.

Article Synopsis
  • Interleukin-27 (IL-27) is a cytokine found in elevated levels in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB) and has anti-Mycobacterium tuberculosis properties in infected macrophages.
  • The study investigated how IL-27 enhances macrophage resistance to Mtb infection through experiments involving bronchoalveolar lavage fluid and macrophage cell lines, revealing that IL-27 treatment reduces macrophage apoptosis and inflammation.
  • The research suggests that IL-27 activates autophagy and modulates signaling pathways, specifically inhibiting TLR4/NF-κB and activating PI3K/AKT, to protect macrophages from damage caused by the Mtb strain H37Rv.

Backgroud: Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is a less invasive treatment option for patients with severe aortic valve stenosis (AS); however, its economic benefits in patients with low to intermediate surgical risk remain controversial and vary by country. We conducted a systematic review to compare the economic benefits of TAVR vs surgical aortic valve replacement (SAVR).

Methods: We searched 6 databases, including PubMed, Medline, Scopus, Web of Science, Embase, and Clinical Trials for randomised controlled trials on the economic benefits of TAVR with different valve types and SAVR in symptomatic AS patients with low to intermediate surgical risk, from inception to October 2023.

Department of Gastroenterology, Yan'an Hospital Affiliated to Kunming Medical University, Kunming, Yunnan 650051, China; Key Laboratory of Tumor Immunological Prevention and Treatment of Yunnan Province, Kunming 650051, China. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • Colorectal cancer (CRC) is becoming more common and lethal, largely due to abnormal glucose metabolism, particularly the Warburg effect, which aids cancer cell development and progression.
  • The Warburg effect affects CRC by altering the glycolytic pathway, involving key enzymes, transport proteins, and signaling pathways vital for cancer metabolism.
  • Research is ongoing to better understand how reprogrammed glucose metabolism contributes to CRC progression and treatment resistance, with aims to reduce the risk of metastasis and recurrence.

  • Plantar fascia (PF) is a common cause of foot pain for adults, and several surgical treatments exist for it.
  • A study involving 60 patients evaluated the effectiveness of three treatments: Needle Knife Therapy, Endoscopic Plantar Fasciotomy, and Conventional Painkillers, using VAS and AOFAS scores for analysis.
  • The results showed that Endoscopic Plantar Fasciotomy led to significantly lower pain scores compared to the other treatments, indicating it may be the most effective option for long-term pain relief and functional improvement.

Atherosclerosis is primarily an inflammatory reaction of the cardiovascular system caused by endothelial damage, leading to progressive thickening and hardening of the vessel walls, as well as extensive necrosis and fibrosis of the surrounding tissues, the most necessary pathological process causing cardiovascular disease. When the body responds to harmful internal and external stimuli, excess oxygen free radicals are produced causing oxidative stress to occur in cells and tissues. Simultaneously, the activation of inflammatory immunological processes is followed by an elevation in oxygen free radicals, which directly initiates the release of cytokines and chemokines, resulting in a detrimental cycle of vascular homeostasis abnormalities.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the role of long non-coding RNA lncSNHG16 in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), finding that higher levels are linked to poorer patient survival.
  • Overexpression of lncSNHG16 in HCC cells increased their growth, movement, and invasiveness, while reducing cell death.
  • The findings suggest that lncSNHG16 suppresses autophagy and apoptosis in HCC, indicating it could be a potential target for new treatments.

Electronic address:

Mitochondrial dysfunction and oxidative stress are involved in the development of contrast-induced acute kidney injury (CI-AKI). The present study aimed to reveal the role of transient receptor potential ankyrin 1 (TRPA1), an oxidative sensor, in CI-AKI. Trpa1 mice with Trpa1 conditionally knocked out in renal proximal tubular (PT) cells, Trpa1 overexpression mice (Trpa1-OE), and TRPA1 agonists and antagonists were used to study its function in a mouse model of iohexol-induced CI-AKI.

Chitosan/dextran-based organohydrogel delivers EZH2 inhibitor to epigenetically reprogram chemo/immuno-resistance in unresectable metastatic melanoma.

School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou 510006, PR China; Department of neurosurgery, JiuJiang Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Jiujiang, PR China. Electronic address:

Melanoma either intrinsically possesses resistance or rapidly acquires resistance to anti-tumor therapy, which often leads to local recurrence or distant metastasis after resection. In this study, we found histone 3 lysine 27 (H3K27) demethylated by an inhibitor of histone methyltransferase EZH2 could epigenetically reverse the resistance to chemo-drug paclitaxel (PTX), or enhance the efficacy of immune checkpoint inhibitor anti-TIGIT via downregulating TIGIT ligand CD155. Next, to address the complexity in the combination of multiple bioactive molecules with distinct therapeutic properties, we developed a polysaccharides-based organohydrogel (OHG) configured with a heterogenous network.

The combination of photothermal therapy with chemotherapy has emerged as a promising therapeutic modality for addressing triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC). This manuscript describes a novel hybrid nanoplatform comprising ultrathin catalytic platinum/gold (Pt/Au) nanotubes encapsulated with docetaxel and phase-change materials (PCMs) for the photoacoustic imaging-guided synergistic chemo-photothermal therapy of TNBC. Upon irradiation of near-infrared laser, the photothermal heating of nanotubes converts solid-state PCM into liquid, triggering the controlled release of the encapsulated docetaxel.
