To investigate the effects of low-intensity pulsed ultrasound combined with microbubble (LIPUS-MB) mediated JNK/c-Jun pathway reversal on multidrug resistance in triple-negative breast cancer and the underlying mechanisms. An orthogonal experiment was designed to screen for the optimal parameters of LIPUS-MB in MDA-MB-231/DOX cells. The CCK-8 assay was used to determine the drug resistance of the cells and to measure their proliferation activity and resistance reversal efficiency at the optimal parameters.

Genetic and clinical characteristics of genetic tumor syndromes in the central nervous system cancers: Implications for clinical practice.

iScience

November 2024

Department of Neurosurgery, Qilu Hospital, Cheeloo College of Medicine and Institute of Brain and Brain-Inspired Science, Shandong University, Jinan, Shandong 250012, China.

Recognizing individuals with Genetic tumor syndromes (GTS) in the primary central nervous system (CNS) tumors is crucial for optimizing proper genetic counseling and improving therapeutics and clinical care. We retrospectively analyzed the GTS in a Chinese CNS tumor cohort and examined the molecular characteristics and their clinical significance for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. Our study identified 34 categories of GTS in 258 patients with CNS tumors.

Background: The field of artificial intelligence (AI)-based patient-specific quality assurance (PSQA) for volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) faces challenges in terms of developing general models across institutions due to the prevalence of multi-institution data collection and multivariate heterogeneity. Building a general model that is capable of handling diverse multi-institution data is critical for enabling large-scale integration and analysis.

Purpose: This study aims to develop a star generative adversarial network (StarGAN) and transformer-based hybrid classification-regression PSQA framework to address unification of heterogeneous data from different institutions.

Unlocking Cardioprotective Potential of Gut Microbiome: Exploring Therapeutic Strategies.

J Microbiol Biotechnol

June 2024

Department of Internal Medicine-Cardiovascular, YanTai YuHuangDing Hospital, Yantai, Shandong, P.R. China.

The microbial community inhabiting the human gut resembles a bustling metropolis, wherein beneficial bacteria play pivotal roles in regulating our bodily functions. These microorganisms adeptly break down resilient dietary fibers to fuel our energy, synthesize essential vitamins crucial for our well-being, and maintain the delicate balance of our immune system. Recent research indicates a potential correlation between alterations in the composition and activities of these gut microbes and the development of coronary artery disease (CAD).

  • - Preeclampsia (PE) affects 4.6% of pregnancies and contributes to significant maternal and perinatal health issues; this study explores the role of circular RNA circPCNXL2 in PE progression.
  • - Using various assays, the research found that silencing circPCNXL2 increased the proliferation and migration of trophoblast cells, while also raising levels of miR-487a-3p and lowering IRF2 levels, suggesting a regulatory interaction between these elements.
  • - The study concludes that circPCNXL2 promotes PE by inhibiting trophoblast cell functions through the miR-487a-3p/IRF2 pathway, highlighting potential targets for future therapeutic strategies. *

October 2024

Shandong Provincial Clinical Research Center for Otorhinolaryngologic Diseases, Yantai Yuhuangding Hospital, Yantai, People's Republic of China.

Purpose: The pathogenesis of CRSwNP is complex and not yet fully explored, so we aimed to identify the pivotal hub genes and associated pathways of CRSwNP, to facilitate the detection of novel diagnostic or therapeutic targets.

Methods: Utilizing two CRSwNP sequencing datasets from GEO, differential expression gene analysis, WGCNA, and three machine learning methods (LASSO, RF and SVM-RFE) were applied to screen for hub genes. A diagnostic model was then formulated utilizing hub genes, and the AUC was generated to evaluate the performance of the prognostic model and candidate genes.
