Patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD), Parkinson's disease (PD), traumatic brain injury (TBI), stroke, and postoperative neurocognitive disorder (POND) are commonly faced with neurocognitive disorders with limited therapeutic options. Some non-coding ribonucleic acids (ncRNAs) are involved in the development of various brain cognitive disorders. Circular RNAs (circRNAs), a typical group of ncRNAs, can function as competitive endogenous RNAs (ceRNAs) to dysregulate shared microRNAs (miRNAs) at post-transcription level, inhibiting regulation of miRNAs on their targeted messenger RNAs (mRNAs).

Diversity-scaling analysis of human breast milk microbiomes from population perspective.

Front Microbiol

September 2022

Computational Biology and Medical Ecology Lab, State Key Laboratory of Genetic Resources and Evolution, Kunming Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Kunming, China.

Quantitative measuring the population-level diversity-scaling of human microbiomes is different from conventional approach to traditional individual-level diversity analysis, and it is of obvious significance. For example, it is well known that individuals are of significant heterogeneity with their microbiome diversities, and the population-level analysis can effectively capture such kind of individual differences. Here we reanalyze a dozen datasets of 2,115 human breast milk microbiome (BMM) samples with diversity-area relationship (DAR) to tackle the previous questions.

Ischemic stroke caused by arterial occlusion is the most common type of stroke and is one of the leading causes of disability and death, with the incidence increasing each year. Fyn is a nonreceptor tyrosine kinase belonging to the Src family of kinases (SFKs), which is related to many normal and pathological processes of the nervous system, including neurodevelopment and disease progression. In recent years, more and more evidence suggests that Fyn may be closely related to cerebral ischemia-reperfusion, including energy metabolism disorders, excitatory neurotoxicity, intracellular calcium homeostasis, free radical production, and the activation of apoptotic genes.

Yunnan Key Laboratory of Laboratory Medicine, Kunming, 650032, China; Yunnan Province Clinical Research Center for Laboratory Medicine, Kunming, 650032, China; Department of Clinical Laboratory, The First Affiliated Hospital of Kunming Medical University, Kunming, 650032, China. Electronic address:

Objective: With the detection rate increasing each year, highly resistant and virulent CRKP has been a serious challenge to clinical treatment because of the high morbidity and mortality. Considering the virulence of CRKP is closely related to over-expression of siderophore, the high detection rate of entB and ybtS genes in highly virulent CRKP may be an important reason for the high virulence phenotype of CRKP. Therefore, in this study, single/double knockout and complemented strains of siderophore virulence genes entB and ybtS were constructed to clarify the effect of siderophore virulence genes on the virulence of CRKP.

Kidney Disease Center, The First Affiliated Hospital, College of Medicine, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, PR China; National Key Clinical Department of Kidney Diseases, PR China; Institute of Nephropathy, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, PR China; Zhejiang Dialysis Quality Control Center, PR China. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • Long-term exposure to particulate air pollutants is known to increase mortality in hemodialysis patients, but little research has focused on the effects of short-term exposure.
  • A comprehensive study analyzed data from over 18,000 hemodialysis patient deaths across multiple hospitals and cities to investigate the relationship between short-term particulate matter exposure and mortality rates.
  • The results indicated that even a slight increase in particulate matter levels significantly raises daily mortality rates among hemodialysis patients, underscoring the need for improved air quality policies to protect vulnerable populations.
