The incidence of chromosomal abnormalities in twin pregnancies is not well-studied. In this retrospective study, we investigated the frequency of chromosomal abnormalities in twin pregnancies and compared the incidence of chromosomal abnormalities in dichorionic diamniotic (DD) and monochorionic diamniotic (MD) twins. We used data from 57 clinical facilities across Japan.

A modified transabdominal cervicoisthmic cerclage with the monofilament thread: Its efficacy and safety for women with extremely short cervix due to cervical conization.

Aim: The study aimed to examine the usefulness of modified transabdominal cervicoisthmic cerclage (TAC) using monofilament thread for the prevention of preterm delivery in women with an extremely short cervix after deep conization.

Methods: We devised a monofilament thread for picking up the seromuscular layer of the site that is slightly cephalad to the internal ostium to prevent injury of the vessels around the uterine cervix. From 2017 to 2020, we performed this modified operation in eight women (nine pregnancies) at 12-16 weeks of gestation with a history of deep cervical conization.

Ali-M3, an artificial intelligence program, analyzes chest computed tomography (CT) and detects the likelihood of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) based on scores ranging from 0 to 1. However, Ali-M3 has not been externally validated. Our aim was to evaluate the accuracy of Ali-M3 for detecting COVID-19 and discuss its clinical value.

Laxative use and mortality in patients on haemodialysis: a prospective cohort study.

Background: Patients on haemodialysis (HD) are often constipated. This study aimed to assess the relationship between constipation and mortality in such patients. In this study, constipation was defined as receiving prescription laxatives, based on the investigation results of "a need to take laxatives is the most common conception of constipation" reported by the World Gastroenterology Organization Global Guidelines.

Predictive value of the sFlt-1/PlGF ratio for preeclampsia in twin pregnancies: a retrospective study.

: This study aimed to investigate the efficiency of the soluble Fms-like tyrosine kinase 1 (sFlt-1)/placental growth factor (PlGF) ratio in predicting preeclampsia (PE) within 4 weeks in twin pregnancies.: Seventy-eight women with serum angiogenic markers measured at 28 + 0 to 30 + 6 weeks of gestation were enrolled. A receiver-operating characteristic curve was used to determine the sFlt-1/PlGF ratio threshold to predict PE.

Aims: Gain-of-function mutations in RYR2, encoding the cardiac ryanodine receptor channel (RyR2), cause catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia (CPVT). Whereas, genotype-phenotype correlations of loss-of-function mutations remains unknown, due to a small number of analysed mutations. In this study, we aimed to investigate their genotype-phenotype correlations in patients with loss-of-function RYR2 mutations.

Stratification Analysis of Statin Effect on Major Adverse Cardiac Events After Percutaneous Coronary Intervention in Patients on Hemodialysis.

The statin use in patients on hemodialysis remains controversial, and no beneficial effects of statin on the reduction of adverse cardiovascular events have been reported in these patients. This study used stratification analysis to examine the clinical factors in patients on hemodialysis who could benefit from statin for secondary prevention. This prospective multicenter study included 234 consecutive patients on hemodialysis with coronary artery disease who underwent successful reperfusion therapy with percutaneous coronary intervention.

The genetic characteristics of Barrett's esophagus (BE) and esophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC) in the Japanese population is unclear. This study aims to investigate the genetic characteristics from nondysplastic BE (NDBE) to early EAC in Japan. Clinical information was collected.

Liver-Specific Overexpression of Prostasin Attenuates High-Fat Diet-Induced Metabolic Dysregulation in Mice.

The liver has a most indispensable role in glucose and lipid metabolism where we see some of the most serious worldwide health problems. The serine protease prostasin (PRSS8) cleaves toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) and regulates hepatic insulin sensitivity under PRSS8 knockout condition. However, liver substrate proteins of PRSS8 other than TLR4 and the effect to glucose and lipid metabolism remain unclarified with hepatic elevation of PRSS8 expression.

A long-term survival case with recurrent esophageal adenosquamous carcinoma.

We experienced an extremely rare case of recurrent esophageal adenosquamous carcinoma showing cutis, bone and adrenal gland metastases. Furthermore, the patient showed complete remission by chemotherapy and irradiation, with a long-term survival of over 8 years. A 46-year-old man with esophago-gastric junction cancer of clinical stage II was administered two cycles of neo-adjuvant chemotherapy with FP (5FU 800 mg/mm Cisplatin 80 mg/mm every 3 weeks), subsequently, underwent esophagectomy and mediastinal and celiac lymph node dissection.

Background: In neonates, vancomycin (VCM) is used to treat Gram-positive bacterial infections. However, VCM blood concentrations are affected by gestational age, bodyweight (BW), and renal function. The initial VCM dose adjustment can therefore be difficult, and few reports have evaluated this issue.

Primary percutaneous coronary intervention of anomalous origin of a high take-off of right coronary artery arising from ascending aorta with percutaneous cardiopulmonary support in acute myocardial infarction.

Coronary angiography of high take-off right coronary artery (RCA) arising from ascending aorta under percutaneous cardiopulmonary support may be more effective at the site distal to RCA ostium rather than proximal. Guide extension catheters (GECs) may be useful to strengthen backup of percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) system and to contrast coronary lesions clearly during PCI of these RCAs.

Methods: In the present study, female overactive bladder patients were enrolled. The patients were randomly allocated into two groups: the oxybutynin patch group and the mirabegron group.

Background: Several reports have documented that the pulmonary sequestration is in communication with the gastrointestinal tract and the concept of bronchopulmonary foregut malformation (BPFM) has become more widespread. However, there are few reports of the sequestration associated with the pancreas derived from the foregut. We describe the history and pathophysiology of BPFM including pancreatic tissue in a male infant with respiratory distress.

[Mobile Thrombus in the Ascending Aorta Detected Incidentally in the Patient with Fever before Surgery for Esophageal Cancer:Report of a Case].

A mobile thrombus in the ascending aorta is extremely rare. A 57-year-old man was referred to our hospital with suspected esophageal cancer. Following thorough evaluation, he was diagnosed with esophageal cancer( UtMt type0-Ⅱa T1b, Mt type0-Ⅱc T1a N0M0 cStageⅠ) and tongue cancer in situ.

Comprehensive mutational analysis of background mucosa in patients with Lugol-voiding lesions.

Somatic mutations including the background mucosa in patients with Lugol-voiding lesions (LVLs) are still not well known. The aim of this study was to evaluate the somatic mutations of the background mucosa in patients with LVLs (Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), intraepithelial neoplasia (IN), and hyperplasia). Twenty-five patients with LVLs (9 with SCC, 6 with IN, and 10 with hyperplasia) were included.

Background: Molecular testing is critical for identifying actionable variants in lung cancer for precision medicine. When tumor tissue samples are unavailable, archived cytological specimens (ACSs) can be used. The authors examined whether oncogenic variants could be accurately detected in ACSs versus paired formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tumor tissues with in vitro diagnostic tests.

[Thoracic Endovascular Aortic Repair for Idiopathic Aortic Rupture].

Idiopathic aortic rupture is a rare but often fatal condition that requires urgent attention and repair. I have performed thoracic endovascular aortic repair ( TEVAR) in two cases of idiopathic aortic rupture and have achieved positive results. It can be difficult to identify the site of rupture in these cases.

Non-inferior clinical outcomes of immune checkpoint inhibitors in non-small cell lung cancer patients with interstitial lung disease.

Objectives: The efficacy of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) in non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients with pre-existing interstitial lung disease (ILD) is unclear.

Materials And Methods: Retrospective medical data from advanced or recurrent NSCLC patients who were treated with nivolumab or pembrolizumab at ten institutions in Japan between January 2016 and September 2018 were analyzed. Eligible patients were divided into two groups according to the presence of pre-existing ILD.
