Cytokine release syndrome (CRS) is a severe and life-threatening toxicity typically reported in chimeric antigen receptor T cell therapy and is rarely reported in immune checkpoint inhibitor (ICI) therapy. This study reports the case of a 75-year-old Japanese woman who received nivolumab plus ipilimumab therapy for the postoperative recurrence of non-small cell lung cancer. She was admitted to our hospital with fever, hypotension, hepatic disorder, and thrombocytopenia.

Background And Aim: Little is known about genetic mutations in the regenerated mucosa (RM) after endoscopic resection (ER) of esophageal carcinoma. Thus, this study investigates the status of genetic variation in RM after ER of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC).
Methods: The study cohort included 19 patients with ESCC.

Objective: This study aimed to estimate the impact of interpregnancy weight change from the first to the second pregnancy on the risk of infants being large for gestational age (LGA).
Methods: This nationwide prospective birth cohort analysis included 3245 women who delivered their first two live singletons between 2011 and 2014. Interpregnancy weight change was calculated as the difference between the prepregnancy body mass index (BMI) of the first and second pregnancies.

Background: The survival rate of very low birth weight (VLBW) infants has recently improved. However, the occurrence of and factors associated with epilepsy in VLBW infants remain unknown. This study aimed to clarify the incidence, characteristics, and factors associated with epilepsy development in VLBW infants.

Septic pulmonary embolism (SPE) is caused by the microbe that is responsible for any clinical condition that may include urinary tract infections as in this case. We report a case of pyelonephritis with that led to SPE in an 80-year-old woman with poorly controlled diabetes mellitus (DM). Computed tomography (CT) revealed multiple nodules in the peripheral area of the bilateral lung and a contrast defect in the right renal vein, which was suspected to be an embolism.

NADH dehydrogenase 5 (ND5) is one of 44 subunits composed of Complex I in mitochondrial respiratory chain. Therefore, a () gene mutation causes mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) disorder, resulting in the development of mitochondrial diseases. Focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) which had podocytes filled with abnormal mitochondria is induced by mitochondrial diseases.

Background: Postpartum depression (PPD) results in adverse consequences for both mother and infant. However, the association between multiple pregnancy and PPD is unknown because of the difference in the estimated prevalence rate of PPD based on country, ethnicity, and study type. Thus, this study aimed to determine whether Japanese women with multiple pregnancy were at a high risk of developing PPD at 1 and 6 months postpartum.

Treatment-free remission (TFR) is a new goal for patients with chronic myeloid leukemia in chronic phase (CML-CP) with a sustained deep molecular response (DMR) to treatment with tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs). However, optimal conditions for successful TFR in patients treated with second-generation (2G)-TKIs are not fully defined. In this D-FREE study, treatment discontinuation was attempted in newly diagnosed CML-CP patients treated with the 2G-TKI dasatinib who achieved BCR-ABL1 levels of ≤ 0.

Background: This study aimed to investigate the validity of pathological diagnosis of early CRC (E-CRC) from the genetic background by comparing data of E-CRC to colorectal adenoma (CRA) and The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) on advanced CRC (AD-CRC).
Methods: TCGA data on AD-CRC were studied in silico, whereas by next-generation sequencer, DNA target sequences were performed for endoscopically obtained CRA and E-CRC samples. Immunohistochemical staining of mismatch repair genes and methylation of MLH1 was also performed.

Introduction: In Kawasaki disease (KD), accurate prediction of intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) resistance is crucial to reduce a risk for developing coronary artery lesions.
Objective: To establish a simple scoring model predicting IVIG resistance in KD patients based on the machine learning model.
Methods: A retrospective cohort study of 1002 KD patients diagnosed at 12 facilities for 10 years, in which 22.

Background: It is still unclear whether optimal medical therapy (OMT) after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) has beneficial effects on long-term clinical outcomes in patients aged ≥80 years with coronary artery disease (CAD).
Methods: This study analyzed the time to the first major adverse clinical event including death or nonfatal myocardial infarction (MI), for up to 3 years after PCI using multicenter registry data. Data for 1056 patients aged > 80 years successfully treated with PCI were included in the analysis.

Background: With recent advances in robot-assisted techniques, an increasing number of surgeries are being performed with pneumoperitoneum and head-down maneuver (HDM) that may affect the cerebral microcirculation. For the first time, this study investigated the direct influence of pneumoperitoneum and HDM on the cerebral microvasculature in rabbits.
Methods: Adult male rabbits were randomly allocated to the following groups (n = 7 each): control, pneumoperitoneum alone (P), and pneumoperitoneum with HDM (P + HDM) for 120 min.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of once daily (OD) or every 48 hours (every-48-h) administration of amikacin (AMK) on renal function and ototoxicity in neonates. We investigated the frequency of nephrotoxicity and ototoxicity in neonates who received AMK OD or every-48-h from April 2015 to March 2021 and underwent dose evaluation by therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM). In addition, the relationships among birth weight, gestational age, AMK peak and trough values, total duration of AMK administration, and total AMK dose were examined separately for nephrotoxicity and ototoxicity.

Background: Genomic profiling in lung cancer is essential for precision medicine. Cytological specimens provide an alternative to formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) samples for comprehensive genomic analysis. However, this approach remains challenging when a limited number of tumor cells are available.

Neo-adjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) has become a standard treatment for advanced breast cancer because of the advantage of monitoring drug sensitivity and enabling breast-conserving therapy. The changes during NAC are also important to know the biological characteristics of the tumor. We experienced two cases with cystic degeneration and enhancement of the cyst wall during NAC for triple negative breast cancer (TNBC).

Background: Congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH) is sometimes associated with complications involving herniation of intrathoracic organs, which further increase mortality rate. We encountered a case of postoperative gastric and splenic volvulus shortly after left CDH repair in a female neonate who was treated with gastropexy.
Case Presentation: At 39 weeks gestation, a female patient with left Bochdalek CDH was delivered (birth weight: 3748 g, Apgar score: 3/4).

Asian-Pacific nations are home to more than half the world's population and similar to other global super regions, metabolic dysfunction associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) is the principal cause for chronic liver disease. To address the challenges ahead for tackling the disease at-scale, the Asian Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver (APASL) was the first pan-national society to endorse and lead the process for redefining the disease and adopting the more appropriate term "MAFLD" with its accompanying set of positive diagnostic criteria. As with this initiative, APASL and Hepatology International will continue to strive to lead the field and work with sister societies towards full adoption of MAFLD.
