: Complications, namely, catheter-related thrombosis (CRT) and venous stenosis, are associated with non-cuffed hemodialysis catheters used for emergency vascular access. However, only a few reports have demonstrated changes in the venous lumen and intravenous thrombosis after catheter removal. In this study, we comprehensively investigated the risk factors for residual thrombus 1 month after hemodialysis catheter removal.

It has been hypothesized that the biopsychosocial stress associated with the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic, in combination with the immunological effects of SARS-CoV-2 and pancreatic β-cell dysfunction, may contribute to the onset of type 1 diabetes (T1D) in children. In this study, we documented the incidences of T1D in Yamanashi Prefecture, Japan, from 1986 to 2018, and expanded the analysis to include cases from 2019 to 2022 to evaluate the potential influence of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) on T1D incidence. The COVID-19 pandemic period was defined as 2020 to 2022.

Background: Although vancomycin is commonly used to treat methicillin-resistant coagulase-negative staphylococci (MRCoNS) infections, there are no clear guidelines for the optimal 24 h AUC24/MIC ratio. This study aimed to determine the target AUC24/MIC ratio associated with vancomycin-treated MRCoNS infection outcomes.
Methods: This multicentre retrospective cohort study included adult patients who received vancomycin for ≥5 days for bloodstream infections caused by MRCoNS between January 2018 and December 2023.

Background And Objectives: Vancomycin (VAN) is one of therapeutic agents for severe infections, and its efficacy and safety are subject to therapeutic drug monitoring. However, there is a lack of data regarding the administration of VAN to low birth weight (LBW) infants. This presents a challenge to ensure optimal dosing and maximize the benefits of VAN therapy in this specialized patients.

Background: The occurrence of aorto-right atrial fistula in a patient with Stanford type A aortic dissection is exceedingly rare, and the treatment has not been established.
Case Presentation: A 60-year-old male presented to the emergency department with acute lumbar pain and, based on contrast-enhanced computed tomography, was diagnosed with Stanford type A aortic dissection. Emergency surgery was performed.

Purpose: To investigate the effect of studying abroad on catch-up vaccination coverage for measles, rubella, mumps, varicella, and tetanus during the pretravel consultation among young adult travelers.
Methods: This retrospective cohort study analyzed data from the Japan Pretravel Consultation Registry (J-PRECOR) on individuals aged 18-21 years with childhood vaccination records. Propensity score weighting was used to estimate the average treatment effect on the proportion of participants receiving catch-up vaccination.

Cancer cells rely on mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) and the noncanonical tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle. In this paper, we shed light on the vital role played by the noncanonical TCA cycle in a host-side concession to mitochondria, especially in highly energy-demanding malignant tumor cells. Inhibition of ATP-citrate lyase (ACLY), a key enzyme in the noncanonical TCA cycle, induced apoptosis by increasing reactive oxygen species levels and DNA damage while reducing mitochondrial membrane potential.

Context: Defects in MKRN3, DLK1, KISS1, and KISS1R and some disorders, such as Temple syndrome (TS14), cause central precocious puberty (CPP). Recently, pathogenic variants (PVs) in MECP2 have been reported to be associated with CPP.
Objective: We aimed to clarify the contribution of (epi)genetic abnormalities to CPP and clinical and hormonal features in each etiology.

Objectives: We aimed to determine whether a high ratio of soluble fms-like tyrosine kinase-1 (sFlt-1) to placental growth factor (PlGF) would be associated with serious negative consequences and shorter pregnancy duration in cases of early-onset preeclampsia (PE).
Study Design: This retrospective cohort study included women (n = 65) diagnosed with PE at <34.0 weeks of gestation and recruited from a single primary and tertiary medical centre in Japan.

A 61-year-old woman with pathogenic variant had been treated for 20 years and showed dynamic changes in the genomic profile of her metachronous bilateral breast cancer and metastases. She underwent right breast conservation surgery at age 42-Genome 1, lung metastasis and left axillary lymph node metastasis at age 51, partial excision under local anesthesia for left breast cancer at age 53-Genome 2, left axillary lymph node dissection was added 6 month later-Genome 3. Then, olaparib was administered, and subsequently, left mastectomy was performed for the recurrence of left breast cancer at age 59-Genome 4.

Our study highlights the discovery of recurrent copy number alterations in noncoding regions, specifically blood enhancer cluster (BENC-CNA), in B-precursor acute lymphoblastic leukemia (BCP-ALL) cell lines. We demonstrate that BENC-CNA acts as a super-enhancer, driving MYC expression and possibly contributing to the immortalization and proliferative advantage of BCP-ALL cells in vitro.

Background: Although vancomycin is typically employed against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infections, the optimal ratio of 24-h area under the concentration-time curve to minimum inhibitory concentration (AUC/MIC) for severe or complicated infections lacks clear guideline recommendations. This study aimed to determine the target AUC/MIC ratio associated with treatment outcomes of infections treated with vancomycin.
Methods: This retrospective multicenter cohort study included adult patients receiving ≥ 5 days of vancomycin for severe/complicated MRSA infections (e.

Background: Currently, there is no consensus regarding the relationship between neonatal transfer and duration of hospitalization in cases of impaired mother-infant bonding (MIB). This study aimed to determine whether neonatal transfer and duration of hospitalization of newborns increase the risk for impaired MIB.
Methods: The MIB Scale was used to assess impaired MIB 1 year after delivery, using data from the Japan Environment and Children's Study.

Docetaxel (DTX) is a key drug used in perioperative chemotherapy for breast cancer. Edema is a known adverse effect of DTX, but its effect on health-related QOL (HRQOL) is unclear. In this study, we evaluated the effects of edema caused by administration of DTX on HRQOL in patients with early-stage breast cancer.

The emergence of novel drugs has significantly improved outcomes of patients with plasma cell neoplasms (PCN). The Japanese Society of Hematology conducted a prospective observational study in newly diagnosed PCN patients between 2016 and 2021. The analysis focused on 1385 patients diagnosed with symptomatic PCN between 2016 and 2018.

Purpose: The acute kidney injury (AKI) onset owing to vancomycin (VCM) is reported that depend on the area under the blood concentration-time curve (AUC) and occur comparison early phase (early AKI). This study aimed to investigate the occurrence of early AKI in patients treated with VCM and new indicators to avoid early AKI.
Methods: Adult patients who received VCM treatment for more than 4 days and whose trough values measured at least once on or after day 4 and serum creatinine before day 7 from the initiation of VCM administration between August 2021 and September 2022 at the Yamanashi Prefectural Central Hospital were enrolled.

Purpose: We investigated the relationship between aortic remodeling and timing of thoracic endovascular aortic repair( TEVAR) in patients with uncomplicated Stanford type B aortic dissection.
Methods: 29 patients with sub-acute and early chronic uncomplicated Stanford type B aortic dissection underwent TEVAR between February 2019 and August 2022 in our hospital. We retrospectively compared aortic remodeling between 19 patients in the sub-acute( SA) group( 15-90 days from onset) and 10 patients in the early chronic( ECh) group( 91-365 days from onset) using the false luminal area reduction rate using computed tomography imagings.
