Purpose: Glioblastomas contacting the subventricular zone (SVZ) are associated with poor prognosis and the impact of ventricular entry (VE) during resection remains controversial. Since glioblastomas with SVZ involvement often require VE, both SVZ involvement and VE are confounding factors. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of VE during glioblastoma resection by comparing patients with and without SVZ involvement.

Aims/introduction: This analysis seeks to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of urine albumin-to-creatinine ratio testing compared with urine protein-creatinine ratio testing and no urine testing for the identification of kidney damage in individuals with type 2 diabetes who have, or are at risk of, chronic kidney disease in Japan.
Materials And Methods: A health-economic model estimated the clinical and economic consequences of different tests to evaluate kidney damage in line with Japanese guidelines, taking a Japanese healthcare perspective. Differences in the diagnostic performance of tests were considered by the integration of real-world Japanese data.

Background: Distant recurrence can occur by infiltration along white matter tracts or dissemination through the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). This study aimed to clarify the clinical features and mechanisms of recurrence in the dentate nucleus (DN) in patients with supratentorial gliomas. Based on the review of our patients, we verified the hypothesis that distant DN recurrence from a supratentorial lesion occurs through the dentato-rubro-thalamo-cortical (DRTC) pathway.

Trastuzumab deruxtecan is classified as an anticancer agent that poses a moderate emetic risk in the international guidelines for antiemetic therapy. The guidelines recommend emesis prophylaxis using a two-drug combination therapy comprising a 5-hydroxytryptamine-3 receptor antagonist (5-HT3RA) and dexamethasone (DEX). However, the high incidence of nausea and vomiting associated with trastuzumab deruxtecan is problematic.

Objective: To evaluated the trends of local intervention and their impact on oncological outcomes in metastatic hormone-naïve prostate cancer (mHNPC) in real-world practice.
Methods: This retrospective multicenter study included 760 patients treated with either androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) without local treatment (no castration-resistant prostate cancer [CRPC] progression within 12 months, control group) or ADT plus local intervention (intervention group) between January 2005 and March 2022. We evaluated the trends in the use of local intervention in patients with mHNPC and factors associated with CRPC-free survival in the intervention group.

Poly-trans-[(2-carboxyethyl)germasesquioxane] (Ge-132), an organogermanium, is hydrolyzed to 3-(trihydroxygermyl)propanoic acid (THGP) in aqueous solutions, and reduces inflammation, pain and cancer, whereas the underlying mechanisms remain unknown. Sulfides including HS, a gasotransmitter, generated from l-cysteine by some enzymes including cystathionine-γ-lyase (CSE), are pro-nociceptive, since they enhance Ca3.2 T-type Ca channel activity expressed in the primary afferents, most probably by canceling the channel inhibition by Zn linked via coordinate bonding to His of Ca3.

Early diagnosis of urological diseases is often difficult due to the lack of specific biomarkers. More powerful and less invasive biomarkers that can be used simultaneously to identify urological diseases could improve patient outcomes. The aim of this study was to evaluate a urological disease-specific scoring system established with a machine learning (ML) approach using Ig N-glycan signatures.

Endoscopic diagnosis of the invasion depth of superficial esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) is an important determinant of the treatment strategy. The three endoscopic imaging modalities commonly used to predict the invasion depth of superficial ESCC in Japan are non-magnifying endoscopy (non-ME), magnifying endoscopy (ME), and endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS). However, which of these three modalities is most effective remains unclear.

This study aimed to identify salivary metabolomic biomarkers for predicting the prognosis of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) based on comprehensive metabolomic analyses. Quantified metabolomics data of unstimulated saliva samples collected from patients with OSCC (n = 72) were randomly divided into the training (n = 35) and validation groups (n = 37). The training data were used to develop a Cox proportional hazards regression model for identifying significant metabolites as prognostic factors for overall survival (OS) and disease-free survival.

The consumption of fruit and vegetables was reported to be associated with a reduced risk of esophageal cancer (EC) in many studies of esophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC) and esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) from different regions worldwide. Therefore, to provide precise information to reduce the risk of EC in Asia, we performed a systematic review and meta-analysis of studies conducted in the Asian region about fruit and vegetable consumption and the risk of EC. We searched the MEDLINE (PubMed) and ICHUSHI (Japana Centra Revuo Medicina) databases from January 2010 to December 2020.
