Background/aim: Vascular pain associated with NK1 receptor antagonists, particularly fosaprepitant, remains a significant challenge in cancer chemotherapy. The present study investigated the incidence of vascular pain with the administration of fosaprepitant and fosnetupitant and assessed the psychological burden on nurses performing venipuncture.

Patients And Methods: We conducted a prospective observational study involving 115 cancer patients receiving NK1 receptor antagonists via peripheral venous catheters.

Article Synopsis
  • Phyllodes tumors are rare breast tumors with limited treatment options, and this study aimed to explore their genomic changes and associate them with treatment outcomes using Japan's C-CAT clinical genomic registry.
  • A retrospective analysis of 60 cases revealed common genetic mutations, like TERT promoter variants and TP53 mutations, and showed that some alterations might predict treatment resistance, although the results weren't statistically significant.
  • The study highlights unique molecular characteristics of phyllodes tumors, suggesting these genetic insights could inform personalized treatment strategies and identify potential targets for therapy.

  • * A colonoscopy revealed a significant amount of hard stool in the sigmoid colon, along with ulcers and erosions in the proximal area.
  • * After the procedure, the patient's symptoms improved, but the decline in intestinal function from ischemic enteritis may have led to the obstruction; fecal obstructive enterocolitis is rare, highlighting the need for careful preparation during colonoscopy.

Radiation therapy continues to be the cornerstone treatment for malignant brain tumors, the majority of which express wild-type p53. Therefore, the identification of drugs that promote the ionizing radiation (IR)-induced activation of p53 is expected to increase the efficacy of radiation therapy for these tumors. The growth inhibitory effects of CEP-1347, a known inhibitor of MDM4 expression, on malignant brain tumor cell lines expressing wild-type p53 were examined, alone or in combination with IR, by dye exclusion and/or colony formation assays.

Background/aim: Glioblastoma is the most aggressive form of brain tumor and has a dismal prognosis; therefore, novel therapeutic approaches based on the mechanisms underlying its aggressive nature are urgently required. A growing body of evidence suggests that neurotransmitters play a key role in modulating the biology of glioblastoma; however, the role of melanocortins remains unclear.

Materials And Methods: The effects of bremelanotide, a melanocortin receptor agonist, alone or in combination with chemotherapeutic agents, on survivin expression and cell viability were investigated in human glioblastoma cell lines.

A 66-year-old woman with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) who had been receiving methotrexate (MTX) for 2 years presented with tarry stools. Contrast-enhanced computed tomography (CT) of the abdomen revealed irregular wall thickening in the ileocecal region and multiple low-contrast masses in both lobes of the liver. Lower gastrointestinal endoscopy revealed a type 2 tumor in the ileocecal region with a semi-peripheral ulcer.

Background: Hip-to-calcaneus (HC) view is a whole-leg standing view that can visualize the hindfoot in detail. The aim of this study was to investigate the reliability and validity of tibiocalcaneal angle in HC view (H-TCA) by comparing it with that in long axial view (L-TCA). We also verified whether periarticular knee alignment parameters, measured conventionally in whole-leg standing radiography, could be measured in HC view.

Article Synopsis
  • Atypical femoral fractures (AFFs) are related to long-term use of certain medications and the way bones are shaped.
  • Researchers looked at 87 patients with 98 AFFs from 2009 to 2014 in Yamagata, focusing on two types of fractures: subtrochanteric (ST) and diaphyseal (DP).
  • The study found that ST fractures often happened in younger people and had more male patients, while DP fractures were more common in older people and women, suggesting that these two types of fractures might happen for different reasons.

Overview of Neo-Vascular Lesions after Delivery or Miscarriage.

J Clin Med

March 2021

Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Yamagata Prefectural Shinjo Hospital, Shinjo, 12-55 Wakabacho, Yamagata 996-0025, Japan.

The concept of intrauterine neo-vascular lesions after pregnancy, initially called placental polyps, has changed gradually. Now, based on diagnostic imaging, such lesions are defined as retained products of conception (RPOC) with vascularization. The lesions appear after delivery or miscarriage, and they are accompanied by frequent abundant vascularization in the myometrium attached to the remnant.

  • Histiocytic sarcoma (HS) is a rare type of cancer that affects special immune cells in the body.
  • A 68-year-old man had symptoms like stomach pain and weight loss, and tests showed he had multiple tumors in his abdomen.
  • The study found that certain chemicals called eotaxins caused special white blood cells (eosinophils) to gather in the tumors, possibly influencing how the cancer grows and changes.

Case 1: A 68-year-old woman was diagnosed with advanced HER2-positive breast cancer(T2N2aM0, cStage ⅢA). She was treated with 4 courses of preoperative chemotherapy with pertuzumab, trastuzumab, and docetaxel. She was diagnosed to have achieved partial remission(PR), and subsequently underwent a mastectomy and axillary dissection.

The safety management information related to heat generation in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examinations includes the specific absorption rate (SAR), the root mean square (RMS) of the MRI effective component of the B field (B1+rms), and imaging time, which must be set appropriately before an MRI examination. However, unlike image attributes and data, these three parameters do not require any image storage; therefore, information collection and confirmation post-inspection are difficult. Therefore, in this study, we used Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine of SAR and imaging time using the overlay function of the picture archiving and communication systems (PACS) to confirm the specific absorption rate B1+rms and imaging time post-inspection.

  • * A systematic review and the modified Delphi method were used to create 29 QIs, and we found that measuring adherence to 6 of these QIs was feasible based on data from over 396,000 stroke patients.
  • * The study revealed significant variation in adherence rates among hospitals, indicating that the DPC database can efficiently collect data for evaluating stroke care quality at a lower cost.

Introduction: We investigated relationships between therapeutic outcomes of patients with emphysematous pyelonephritis (EPN) and changes in the Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) score.

Materials And Methods: We retrospectively evaluated EPN patients treated in our hospitals using the SOFA score incorporated in the Sepsis-3 updated in 2016.

Results: Seventeen typical EPN patients were included in this study, and were treated with medical management with no drainage (n = 3), retrograde stenting (n = 10), or percutaneous drainage (n = 3).

Pancreatic cancer in young adults is very rare. We report a case of young-onset poorly differentiated pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma with rapid progression and poor prognosis in a 31-year-old Japanese man with no obvious family history of malignancy. Preoperative examinations revealed a mass lesion in the body of the pancreas, accompanied by a slightly dilated main pancreatic duct distal to the mass lesion.

Atypical femoral fractures (AFFs) have been reported to occur with minimal or spontaneous subtrochanteric and femoral shaft fractures with a characteristic transverse pattern, compared with typical femoral fractures in young patients with high-energy trauma. AFFs are related to long-term use of bisphosphonates (BPs), glucocorticoids and rheumatic diseases. We have estimated a blind analysis of AFFs in rheumatic patients receiving BPs and glucocorticoids ordinary over a long time in all Yamagata prefectural area through radiographic examination.
