A 46-year-old NF1 patient with sudden visual disturbance had a thrombotic vertebral artery aneurysm causing cerebral infarction. Endovascular internal trapping was performed successfully, with complete recovery and no neurological deficits. Although this is a rare case, it suggests that endovascular therapy could be successful for vascular lesions complicated by NF1.

Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) inhibition is crucial in treating RAS wild-type metastatic colorectal cancer, yet current testing methods may miss rare RAS variants affecting treatment efficacy. We analyzed 4122 colorectal cancer patients receiving anti-EGFR antibodies from the Center for Cancer Genomics and Advanced Therapeutics database, identifying 54 patients (1.3%) with rare RAS variants undetectable by standard testing.

Background: We report the results of a retrospective analysis of localized prostate cancer (LPCa) treated with transperineal ultrasound image-guided radiotherapy (TPUS-IGRT).
Methods: A total of 124 patients (median age: 74 y, 46-84 y) with LPCa who underwent TPUS-IGRT (Clarity Autoscan system; CAS, Elekta; Stockholm, Sweden) between April 2016 and October 2021 for curative/after hormone induction were enrolled. The number of patients by risk (National Comprehensive Cancer Network 2019) was 7, 25, 42, and 50 for low (LR), good intermediate (good IR), poor intermediate (poor IR), and high (HR)/very high (VHR), respectively.
Pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) with combined portal vein resection sometimes causes left-sided portal hypertension, which can be a problem. An appropriate treatment strategy for hemorrhagic ectopic varices due to left-sided portal hypertension after PD has not yet been determined. We report a case of repeated variceal rupture around the pancreatojejunostomy site.

Prostate cancer (PCa) ranks as the second most common cancer in Japanese males, while bladder cancer (BC) holds the tenth spot. Among double urological cancers, the incidence of synchronous or metachronous BC and PCa is the highest. Reports on upper urinary tract (UUT) urothelial cancer (UC) in PCa patients are limited.

DOATS score and DOAT score, COVID-19 progression prediction tools we have developed, utilize clinical information such as presence of diabetes/obesity (DO), age (A), body temperature (T), and oxygen saturation (S). They showed good predictive power, but their scoring calculation was slightly complex, leading us to develop simplified versions. This report discusses the ability of the simplified versions to assess deterioration risk in unvaccinated, mild/moderate COVID-19 patients aged <65 years.

Background: Arteriovenous fistulas (AVFs) of the craniocervical junction (CCJ) and intradural AVFs are often associated with aneurysms and varics, and it is sometimes difficult to identify the ruptured point on radiological images. We report a case in which vessel wall magnetic resonance image (VW-MRI) was useful for identifying the ruptured point at the CCJ AVF.
Case Description: A 70-year-old man presented with a sudden onset of headache.

Background And Aim: We previously identified that ever-smoking and severe gastric atrophy in pepsinogen are risk factors for synchronous gastric cancers (SGCs). This study aimed to determine the association of alcohol drinking status or alcohol-related genetic polymorphism with SGCs and also stratify their risk.
Methods: This multi-center prospective cohort study included patients who underwent endoscopic submucosal dissection for the initial early gastric cancers at 22 institutions in Japan.

: The conventional posterior approach in the lateral decubitus position is widely used for femoral neck fractures in femoral hemiarthroplasty. Postoperative dislocation is the major problem with this approach. The conjoined tendon-preserving posterior (CPP) approach is a less invasive surgical approach than the conventional posterior approach to the hip, maintains posterior stability, and preserves short external rotators and joint capsules.

Purpose: To verify the effectiveness of optimizing the number of mask images in DSA for radiation dose reduction during cerebral angiography.
Methods: A total of 60 angiography sessions in 2 times for 30 patients performed by the same operator were included in this study. In order to compare the effects of optimization to change the injection delay time of DSA from 1 s to the shortest possible time, the number of mask images, the number of imaging frames, and radiation doses between sessions were compared and analyzed retrospectively.

Background: Capillary hemangioma is a rare benign hemangioma that occurs in the soft tissues of the skin, orbit, head, and neck. Intracranial cases, especially intraparenchymal cases, are extremely rare. In this study, we report the course of an intracranial parenchymal capillary hemangioma with left mild motor paresis and involuntary movements of the left upper extremity and was successfully treated by surgical resection, including radiological and pathological examinations.

Standardised measurement protocols for grip strength remained unclear due to variations in values depending on the device and measurement method. The load cell hand dynamometer has recently been developed. This study aims to investigate the reliability of the load cell dynamometer by comparing it to the Jamar dynamometer, which is considered the gold standard, and to identify a reliable and practical measurement method.

Aim: Nucleos(t)ide analogs do not completely prevent hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in chronic hepatitis B virus infection. This study aimed to evaluate the dynamics of a non-invasive liver fibrosis marker, the Fibrosis-4 (FIB-4) index, for predicting HCC development.
Methods: Among a total of 882 chronically hepatitis B virus infection-infected patients who were treated with nucleos(t)ide analogs, 472 patients without HCC history whose FIB-4 at baseline and 1 year of treatment was obtained were evaluated for the incidence of HCC.

A woman in her 70s presented to our hospital with complaints of cough and dyspnea. Computed tomography(CT) images showed a large amount of left pleural effusion, pleural tumors, and mediastinal lymphadenopathy. Left thoracic drainage was performed, and high-grade fetal lung adenocarcinoma was suspected upon pleural effusion-cell block immunostaining.

Background: Aqueduct of Sylvius stenosis/obstruction interferes with cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) flow and leads to the non-communicating hydrocephalus. Acquired non-neoplastic causes of aqueduct of Sylvius stenosis/ obstruction include simple stenosis, gliosis, slit-like stenosis, and septal formation, but the detailed mechanisms are not clear. In the present study, we experienced a case of late-onset aqueductal membranous occlusion (LAMO) successfully treated by neuroendoscopic procedure, which allowed us to examine the pathology of the membranous structures of the aqueduct of Sylvius occlusion.

Nucleos(t)ide analogues (NAs) suppress hepatitis B virus (HBV) replication, but the risk of hepatocellular carcinoma still remains. The presence of detectable HBV DNA in the serum during NA therapies for chronic hepatitis B patients has been reported to be associated with the risk of hepatocellular carcinoma. In this study, we investigated the antiviral effect of switching from entecavir (ETV) to tenofovir alafenamide fumarate (TAF) in chronic hepatitis B patients who had detectable HBV DNA in the serum at least once within a year.

Background: No clear evidence exists regarding the effects of the different periods and magnitude of spread of the COVID-19 infection on cancer treatments. This study investigated the effects of the different periods and magnitude of COVID-19 infection spread on in-hospital cancer operations.
Methods: Medical claims data from 17 hospitals where in-hospital operations for patients with malignant neoplasms were performed between 1 April 2017 and 31 March 2021 in Yamagata were extracted and analyzed.

Headache is one of the most common symptoms encountered during the postpartum period. The cause may be unknown, or the following illnesses are possible: cervical artery dissection (CAD), reversible posterior cerebral encephalopathy syndrome (PRES), and reversible cerebral vasoconstrictor syndrome (RCVS). It is suggested that they are interrelated and share a similar mechanism such as small vessel endothelial dysfunction, deficiencies in self-regulation, and decreased sympathetic innervation of the posterior circulation.
