Poisson's Ratio Prediction of Injection Molded Thermoplastics Using Differential Scanning Calorimetry.

Polymers (Basel)

July 2024

Faculty of Engineering, Department of Polymeric and Organic Materials Engineering, Yamagata University, Yonezawa 992-8510, Japan.

In the development of thermoplastic products, it is necessary to conduct the necessary mechanical tests and evaluate the reliability of thermoplastics in each case, because the mechanical properties of the same material vary depending on the molding process conditions and product shape. In order to build a sustainable society, it is expected that the evaluation of the mechanical properties of thermoplastics, which are resource and energy saving, will be required. In this paper, the glass transition temperature and melting point of injection-molded thermoplastics were evaluated by differential scanning calorimetry, and the correlation between Poisson's ratio and free volume was obtained by applying the theory proposed by Flory et al.

Oxidative Metabolism as a Cause of Lipid Peroxidation in the Execution of Ferroptosis.

Int J Mol Sci

July 2024

Laboratory of Hygienic Chemistry, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Kitasato University, Tokyo 108-8641, Japan.

Ferroptosis is a type of nonapoptotic cell death that is characteristically caused by phospholipid peroxidation promoted by radical reactions involving iron. Researchers have identified many of the protein factors that are encoded by genes that promote ferroptosis. Glutathione peroxidase 4 (GPX4) is a key enzyme that protects phospholipids from peroxidation and suppresses ferroptosis in a glutathione-dependent manner.

Helicenes, with their unique helical structures, have long captured the interest of synthetic chemists, not only as end products, but also as versatile platforms for further chemical transformations. However, transforming [6]helicene into planar coronene typically requires harsh conditions and poses significant challenges. Herein, we demonstrate that replacing the terminal benzene ring of [6]helicene with a thiophene ring enables its photochemical transformation into coronene.
