Background: Stroke is a pressing public health issue worldwide. This study aimed to forecast the future temporal trends and distribution characteristics of the global stroke burden.
Methods And Results: Global data on stroke incidence, prevalence, deaths, and disability-adjusted life years between 1990 and 2021 were obtained from the GBD (Global Burden of Disease) Study 2021.
Long-lasting vaginal dosage forms could improve the therapeutic efficacy of vaginal microbicides, but achieving long-term delivery to the vaginal canal has been a significant challenge. To advance understanding of vaginal dosage retention and biodistribution, we describe a method of noninvasive imaging with Zr-labeled bioadhesive nanoparticles (BNPs) in non-human primates. We additionally examined the safety of repeated BNP application.

Optimal egg size theory implies that female organisms balance between fecundity and individual offspring investment according to their environment. Past interspecific studies suggest that fishes in large marine systems generally produce smaller eggs than those in small freshwater systems. We tested whether intraspecific egg size variation reflected a similar pattern by comparing egg size among yellow perch () populations inhabiting a range of system sizes.

Whether associations persist into late childhood, whether maternal distress is associated with temperament change from infancy to late childhood, whether associations are independent of maternal concurrent distress, and whether maternal distress has sensitive exposure periods on child temperament remain unclear.

Background: There have been few large-scale studies on the outcomes of cardiomyopathy-associated heart failure (HF) in infants aged <1 year. This study aimed to assess longitudinal echocardiographic outcomes of infants with HF secondary to cardiomyopathy who survived for >1 year.
Methods And Results: A prospective observational study following 327 infant patients up to 5 years in 2 large pediatric heart centers in Northern China between January 2010 and December 2018.

Insufficiency of training data is a persistent issue in medical image analysis, especially for task-based functional magnetic resonance images (fMRI) with spatio-temporal imaging data acquired using specific cognitive tasks. In this paper, we propose an approach for generating synthetic fMRI sequences that can then be used to create augmented training datasets in downstream learning tasks. To synthesize high-resolution task-specific fMRI, we adapt the -GAN structure, leveraging advantages of both GAN and variational autoencoder models, and propose different alternatives in aggregating temporal information.

The synthetic tunability and porosity of two-dimensional (2D) metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) renders them a promising class of materials for ultrathin and nanoscale applications. Conductive 2D MOFs are of particular interest for applications in nanoelectronics, chemo-sensing, and memory storage. However, the lack of covalency along the stacking axis typically leads to poor crystallinity in 2D MOFs, limiting structural analysis and precluding exfoliation.

Background: Patients with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) experience higher risk of adverse cardiovascular (CV) outcomes. This study explores shared loci, and genes between PTSD and CV conditions from three major domains: CV diagnoses from electronic health records (CV-EHR), cardiac and aortic imaging, and CV health behaviors defined in Life's Essential 8 (LE8).
Methods: We used genome-wide association study (GWAS) of PTSD (N=1,222,882), 246 CV diagnoses based on EHR data from Million Veteran Program (MVP; N=458,061), UK Biobank (UKBB; N=420,531), 82 cardiac and aortic imaging traits (N=26,893), and GWAS of traits defined in the LE8 (N = 282,271 ~ 1,320,016).

Background: Ablation of the basivertebral nerve (BVNA) innervating the vertebral endplate has become a standard treatment of vertebrogenic chronic low back pain (CLBP) arising from vertebral endplate damage. BVNA treatment of CLBP in clinical trials was successful and durable for pain relief and return to daily activities. This case review adds new information about older patients with adult degenerative spinal deformity (ASD) and associated comorbidities not previously described in clinical trials.

Introduction: Dengue disease represents a large and growing global threat to public health, accounting for a significant burden to health systems of endemic countries. The World Health Organization's (WHO) Strategic Advisory Group of Experts (SAGE) and the European Medicines Agency (EMA) currently recommend the use of TAK-003 dengue vaccine in high dengue burden and transmission settings for countries considering vaccination as part of their integrated management strategy for prevention and control of Dengue.
Areas Covered: This paper describes the main conclusions of a workshop held by the Arbovirus Committee of the Latin American Society of Pediatric Infectious Diseases (SLIPE) in November 2023, to generate consensus recommendations on the introduction of this new vaccine in the region.

In addition to thousands of validated positive regions (VPRs) in the human and mouse genomes, the database also contains similar numbers of validated negative regions (VNRs). It is previously shown that the VPRs are on average half as long as predicted overlapping enhancers that are highly conserved and hypothesize that the VPRs may be truncated forms of long bona fide enhancers.
