Breast artery calcification (BAC) obtained from standard mammographic images is currently under evaluation to stratify risk of major adverse cardiovascular events in women. Measuring BAC using artificial intelligence (AI) technology, we aimed to determine the relationship between BAC and coronary artery calcification (CAC) severity with Major Adverse Cardiac Events (MACE). This retrospective study included women who underwent chest computed tomography (CT) within one year of mammography.

Purpose: Injectable biologics have not only been described and developed to treat dermal wounds, cardiovascular disease, and cancer, but have also been reported to treat chronic pain conditions. Despite emerging evidence supporting regenerative medicine therapy for pain, many aspects remain controversial.
Methods: The American Society of Pain and Neuroscience (ASPN) identified the educational need for an evidence-based guideline on regenerative medicine therapy for chronic pain.

Hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) are among the leading causes of maternal mortality in the United States, with Black women and birthing people disproportionately having higher HDP-related deaths and morbidity. In 2020, the Preeclampsia Foundation formed a national Racial Disparities Task Force (RDTF) to identify key recommendations to address issues of racial disparities related to HDP. Recommendations are centered around the Foundation's three pillars: Community, Healthcare Practice, and Research.

Background: We sought to evaluate the associations of chest pain and dyspnea with the long-term risk of cardiovascular disease including coronary disease, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, and stroke.
Methods: In 13,200 participants without cardiovascular disease in the Atherosclerosis Risk in Communities study (1987-1989), chest pain was categorized into definite angina, possible angina, non-anginal chest pain, and no chest pain using the Rose questionnaire. Dyspnea was categorized into grades 3-4, 2, 1, and 0 by the modified Medical Research Council scale.

Background: Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is a minimally invasive outpatient procedure that has recently emerged as a treatment option for autonomous functioning thyroid nodules (AFTNs), offering a less invasive alternative to surgery. The objective of this systematic review and meta-analysis is to evaluate the efficacy of RFA for AFTNs.
Method: Global databases of PubMed, Scopus, Embase, Web of Science, and Cochrane Library were systematically searched from 1990 until January 5, 2024, for studies on AFTNs undergoing RFA that presented volume reduction ratio (VRR) for at least one of 1, 3, 6 or 12 months post-operative follow-up with the results presented as means.

Flecainide toxicity is a rare but serious condition that can present with a wide range of clinical symptoms. We report the case of a 79-year-old female with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation on flecainide therapy who developed altered mental status, visual hallucinations, and bradycardia. Laboratory results revealed an acute kidney injury, which contributed to elevated flecainide levels.

Background And Aim: Modulating the gut microbiota population by administration of probiotics, prebiotics, and synbiotics has shown to have a variety of health benefits in different populations, particularly those with metabolic disorders. Although the promising effects of these compounds have been observed in the management of patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), the exact effects and the mechanisms of action are yet to be understood. In the present study, we aimed to evaluate how gut microbiota modulation affects anthropometric indices of NAFLD patients to achieve a comprehensive summary of current evidence-based knowledge.

Background: Contrast-induced nephropathy (CIN) is a form of acute kidney injury (AKI) occurring in patients undergoing cardiac catheterization, such as coronary angiography (CAG) or percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Although the conventional criterion for CIN detection involves a rise in creatinine levels within 72 h after contrast media injection, several limitations exist in this definition. Up to now, various meta-analyses have been undertaken to assess the accuracy of different biomarkers of CIN prediction.
