The study included patients with chronic kidney disease aged 60-89 years, who were divided into three groups by ethnicity (Evens, Yakuts and Russians). By age, all study participants were divided into 2 age groups: elderly (60-74 years old) and senile (75-89 years old). For the first time, ethnic features of the prevalence of risk factors and progression of chronic kidney disease in elderly and senile people of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) were revealed on clinical material.

Many deleterious consequences for health of excessive fat accumulation are due to visceral fat. Browning of visceral fat is mainly cold dependent and has been proposed as a possible tool for future therapies of obesity and related disorders. In this paper, we studied the composition of mediastinal and perirenal visceral fat, collected at necropsy, of human adults that lived in Siberia, one of the coldest regions of the earth.

In 2018, a seroepidemiological survey was carried out in 3 ulus, or districts (Churapchinsky, Megino-Kangalassky and Ust-Aldansky) in Central Yakutia (Sakha Republic, Russian Federation) about 3 helminth zoonoses, namely, echinococcosis (alveolar or cystic), toxocariasis and trichinellosis. Ninety rural volunteers agreed to answer a questionnaire that inquired about demographic and environmental parameters along with food habits. Then they were asked to provide a venous blood sample.

In the absence of a medical birth registry, the official statistics are the only sources of information about pregnancy outcomes in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) (RS). We analysed the official statistical data about birth rate, fertility, infant and maternal mortality in the RS in the period 2003-2014. Compared with all-Russian data, the RS had a higher birth rate, especially in rural districts.

To evaluate the criteria of metabolic syndrome (MS) in elderly, 505 men aged 60-99 years, with hypertension, indigenous and non-indigenous ethnic group living in the extreme conditions of the Far North were studied. The analysis of anthropometric parameters revealed that height, body weight, BMI, waist circumference, hip circumference, the ratio of waist to hip size, waist to growth were significantly lower in the elderly and senile Yakuts compared with those of non-indigenous ethnicity (p<0,001). Ethnic differences were found in SBP and DBP levels (p<0,001).

Background: Hereditary short stature syndromes are clinically and genetically heterogeneous disorders and the cause have not been fully identified. Yakuts are a population isolated in Asia; they live in the far east of the Russian Federation and have a high prevalence of hereditary short stature syndrome including 3-M syndrome. A novel short stature syndrome in Yakuts is reported here, which is characterised by autosomal recessive inheritance, severe postnatal growth retardation, facial dysmorphism with senile face, small hands and feet, normal intelligence, Pelger-Huët anomaly of leucocytes, and optic atrophy with loss of visual acuity and colour vision.
