Existing stress evaluation methods based on the Lamb waves mainly use the time of flight (TOF) or velocity as the means of stress measurement. However, these two features used for stress measurement are sometimes insensitive to stress changes. Therefore, it is essential to explore other features that are potentially more sensitive to stress changes.

Although sex differences have been reported in patients with clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC), biological sex has not received clinical attention and genetic differences between sexes are poorly understood. This study aims to identify sex-specific gene mutations and explore their clinical significance in ccRCC. We used data from The Cancer Genome Atlas-Kidney Renal Clear Cell Carcinoma (TCGA-KIRC), The Renal Cell Cancer-European Union (RECA-EU) and Korean-KIRC.

Although high-dimensional clinical data (HDCD) are increasingly available in biobank-scale datasets, their use for genetic discovery remains challenging. Here we introduce an unsupervised deep learning model, Representation Learning for Genetic Discovery on Low-Dimensional Embeddings (REGLE), for discovering associations between genetic variants and HDCD. REGLE leverages variational autoencoders to compute nonlinear disentangled embeddings of HDCD, which become the inputs to genome-wide association studies (GWAS).

Background: Evaluating left ventricular diastolic function (LVDF) is crucial in echocardiography; however, the complexity and time demands of current guidelines challenge clinical use. This study aimed to develop an artificial intelligence (AI)-based framework for automatic LVDF assessment to reduce subjectivity and improve accuracy and outcome prediction.
Methods: We developed an AI-based LVDF assessment framework using a nationwide echocardiographic dataset from five tertiary hospitals.

Molecular dynamics simulation is a crucial research domain within the life sciences, focusing on comprehending the mechanisms of biomolecular interactions at atomic scales. Protein simulation, as a critical subfield, often utilizes MD for implementation, with trajectory data play a pivotal role in drug discovery. The advancement of high-performance computing and deep learning technology becomes popular and critical to predict protein properties from vast trajectory data, posing challenges regarding data features extraction from the complicated simulation data and dimensionality reduction.

The preliminary study revealed that the ethyl acetate eluate of (YJ-E) could inhibit the expression of key proteins of p-p65, p-IκBα, p-IKKα/β, and p-AKT in LPS stimulated BV2 cell. Further phytochemical study led to the isolation of eight compounds from YJ-E, including one new sesquiterpene lactone. Their structures were elucidated by several spectroscopic data, and comparing the NMR data of known compound.

Introduction: Amyloid positron emission tomography (PET) acquisition timing impacts quantification.
Methods: In florbetaben (FBB) PET scans of 245 adults with and without cognitive impairment, we investigated the impact of post-injection acquisition time on Centiloids (CLs) across five reference regions. CL equations for FBB were derived using standard methods, using FBB data collected between 90 and 110 min with paired Pittsburgh compound B data.

Background: Inter-scalene block (ISB) is associated with an inevitable risk of hemi-diaphragmatic paresis (HDP). To reduce the risk of HDP, an upper trunk block (UTB) has been proposed at the brachial plexus division level.
Objective: We hypothesised that UTB would be associated with a lower incidence of HDP than ISB while providing sufficient analgesia following arthroscopic shoulder surgery.

The lateral septum (LS) is composed of heterogeneous cell types that are important for various motivated behaviors. However, the transcriptional profiles, spatial arrangement, function, and connectivity of these cell types have not been systematically studied. Using single-nucleus RNA sequencing, we delineated diverse genetically defined cell types in the LS that play distinct roles in reward processing.

The potential long-term effects of anesthesia on cognitive development, especially in neonates and infants, have raised concerns. However, our understanding of its underlying mechanisms and effective treatments is still limited. In this study, we found that early exposure to isoflurane (ISO) impaired fear memory retrieval, which was reversed by dexmedetomidine (DEX) pre-treatment.

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is uncommon in China and the standard of care is underdeveloped, with limited utilization of disease-modifying treatment (DMT). An understanding of real-world disease burden (including direct medical, non-medical, and indirect costs, such as loss of productivity), is currently lacking in this population. To investigate the overall burden of managing patients with MS in China, a cross-sectional survey of physicians and their consulting patients with MS was conducted in 2021.
