Electrocatalytic nitrate reduction to ammonia (eNRA) is a promising route toward environmental sustainability and clean energy. However, its efficiency is often limited by the slow conversion of intermediates due to spin-forbidden processes. Here, we introduce a novel A-site high-entropy strategy to develop a new perovskite oxide (LaPrNdBaSr)CoO (LPNBSC) for eNRA.

Macauba fruit pulp (Acrocomia aculeata) is an emerging oil source. After de-oiling, the macauba pulp meal (MPM) offers a dietary fiber content of 40-50 %, which mainly comprises cell wall polysaccharides (CWP). The present work aimed to assess the potential of MPM as an innovative source of sustainable food polysaccharides.

River quality management involves complex challenges due to inherent uncertainties in various parameters, especially when dealing with controllable and uncontrollable pollutants. This study integrates a finite volume approach, called SEF (symmetric exponential function), with Monte Carlo simulations in MATLAB to solve the advection-dispersion equation, focusing on evaluating river quality protection tools by considering failure probability (P). Critical specifications for maintaining reliable river ecosystem performance are identified.

The new EU Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive requires stricter limits introducing quaternary treatments and poses significant challenges to achieving a sustainable environment. Advanced membrane-based treatment processes combined with mathematical models can be a good solution for facing the challenges above. Most existing literature on membrane filtration models primarily focuses on membrane bioreactors, lacking mechanistic models on ultrafiltration (UF) membranes.

Anthropogenic inputs of nitrogen and phosphorus to lakes have increased worldwide, causing phytoplankton chlorophyll concentrations to increase at many sites, with negative implications for biodiversity and human usage of lake resources. However, the conversion of nutrients to chlorophyll varies among lakes, hindering effective management actions to improve water quality. Here, using a rich global dataset, we explore how the relationship between chlorophyll-a (Chla) and nitrogen and phosphorus and inferred nutrient limitation is modified by climate, catchment, hydrology and lake characteristics.

-Armchair graphene nanoribbons (nAGNRs) are promising components for next-generation nanoelectronics due to their controllable band gap, which depends on their width and edge structure. Using non-metal surfaces for fabricating nAGNRs gives access to reliable information on their electronic properties. We investigated the influence of light and iron adatoms on the debromination of 4,4''-dibromo--terphenyl precursors affording poly(-phenylene) (PPP as the narrowest GNR) wires through the Ullmann coupling reaction on a rutile TiO(110) surface, which we studied by scanning tunneling microscopy and X-ray photoemission spectroscopy.

Introduction: The effectiveness of pharmaceutical treatment methods is vital in cancer treatment. In this context, various targeted drug delivery systems are being developed to minimize or eliminate existing deficiencies and harms. This study aimed to model the interaction of MEN-based drug-targeting systems with cancer cells and determine the properties of interacting MENs.

Introduction: The debate addressing the classification of chronic widespread pain as a physical disorder (fibromyalgia syndrome) [FMS] or a somatoform disorder according to psychiatric classification systems has continued for decades.
Objectives: The review aims to line out the new perspectives introduced by the 11th version of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD 11) of the World Health Organization (WHO).
Methods: Critical review of the classification criteria of fibromyalgia syndrome and bodily distress disorder in ICD 11.

Adaptive divergence and increased genetic differentiation among populations can lead to reproductive isolation. In Lake Constance, Germany, a population of invasive three-spined stickleback () is currently diverging into littoral and pelagic ecotypes, which both nest in the littoral zone. We hypothesized that assortative mating behaviour contributes to reproductive isolation between these ecotypes and performed a behavioural experiment in which females could choose between two nest-guarding males.

We discuss the challenges associated with achieving high energy efficiency in electrochemical ammonia synthesis at near-ambient conditions. The current Li-mediated process has a theoretical maximum energy efficiency of ∼28%, since Li deposition gives rise to a very large effective overpotential. As a starting point toward finding electrocatalysts with lower effective overpotentials, we show that one reason why Li and alkaline earth metals work as N reduction electrocatalysts at ambient conditions is that the thermal elemental processes, N dissociation and NH desorption, are both facile at room temperature for these metals.

Introduction: Excessive crying, sleeping, and eating disorders are among the most prevalent mental health diagnoses in the first 3 years of life and involve significant health service use. Parents of infants with excessive crying/sleeping/eating disorders report high levels of stress, since they feel incapable of soothing and/or nurturing their baby. Infants' distress can lead to a breakdown in parents' mentalizing abilities and, more specifically, parental mind-mindedness in the parent-child interaction.

Objectives: Adipsin and leptin are adipokines that link adipose tissue dysfunction and increased fat accumulation to obesity-related metabolic disorders. This study aimed to assess the effects of sitagliptin/metformin versus metformin monotherapy on the levels of adipsin, leptin, and lipid profile in type 2 diabetic patients.
Methods: This comparative case-control study included 120 participants divided into four groups: healthy participants, newly diagnosed type 2 diabetic patients, metformin-treated patients, and sitagliptin/metformin-treated patients.

Parkinson's disease is primarily marked by mitochondrial dysfunction and metabolic abnormalities. We recently reported that the combined metabolic activators improved the immunohistochemical parameters and behavioural functions in Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease animal models and the cognitive functions in Alzheimer's disease patients. These metabolic activators serve as the precursors of nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide and glutathione, and they can be used to activate mitochondrial metabolism and eventually treat mitochondrial dysfunction.

In the field of solar energy storage, photocatalytic ammonia production is a next-generation technology. The rapid recombination of charges and insignificant utilization of the sunlight spectrum are bottlenecks of effective photocatalytic N fixation. The introduction of impurities in the crystal lattice and the development of heterojunctions could effectively segregate carriers and improve the solar-light-harvesting capability, which can boost NH generation.

Objective: In the context of acute cardiogenic pulmonary edema (ACPE), a frequently encountered medical emergency associated with high early mortality rates, there is a need to predict short-term outcomes for risk stratification. Our aim was to derive and validate a model, a simple clinical scoring system using baseline vital signs, clinical and presenting characteristics, and readily available laboratory tests, that allows accurate prediction of short-term mortality in individuals experiencing ACPE.
Methods: This retrospective cohort study included 1088 patients with ACPE from six health centers.

Background: In the 21st century, disasters (particularly earthquakes, which remain the leading cause of death) continue to be among the foremost issues requiring global emergency response. While the impact of advancing technologies on the environmental and human damage caused by earthquakes is still a subject of debate, search and rescue (SAR) teams and emergency departments (ED), specifically emergency physicians (EPs), play a crucial role in the most acute management of the effects of these earthquakes on human life. This study aims to examine the injury dynamics of two catastrophic earthquakes that occurred in Turkey 24 years apart from the perspective of EPs, utilizing archival records from the SAR teams in which EPs served.

Snakebite envenoming remains a devastating and neglected tropical disease, claiming over 100,000 lives annually and causing severe complications and long-lasting disabilities for many more. Three-finger toxins (3FTx) are highly toxic components of elapid snake venoms that can cause diverse pathologies, including severe tissue damage and inhibition of nicotinic acetylcholine receptors, resulting in life-threatening neurotoxicity. At present, the only available treatments for snakebites consist of polyclonal antibodies derived from the plasma of immunized animals, which have high cost and limited efficacy against 3FTxs.
