Due to the short de Broglie wavelength of electrons compared with X-rays, the curvature of their Ewald sphere is low, and individual electron diffraction patterns are nearly flat in reciprocal space. As a result, a reliable unit-cell determination from a set of randomly oriented electron diffraction patterns, an essential step in serial electron diffraction, becomes a non-trivial task. Here we describe an algorithm for unit-cell determination from a set of independent electron diffraction patterns, as implemented in the program PIEP (Program for Interpreting Electron diffraction Patterns), written in the early 1990s.

Epidemiological data suggests that individuals with DM are more susceptible to certain cancers. Recirculating showers save up to 70-80 % of the water and energy use of conventional showers, but water quality in these systems are not studied very well due to the technology's early stages. The aim of this study was to provide an overview of information available on which microorganisms were investigated and at which densities. Based on this platform we further aimed at identifying key microbial indicators and pathogens for monitoring water quality in these systems by integrating data from the top five waterborne outbreaks with findings from studies on (1) microbial investigations in reuse projects involving shower effluents or combined bathroom streams, (2) shower water effluents, and (3) biofilms in conventional showers.

Improved GOA-based fuzzy PI speed control of PMSM with predictive current regulation.

To address the susceptibility of conventional vector control systems for permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) to motor parameter variations and load disturbances, a novel control method combining an improved Grasshopper Optimization Algorithm (GOA) with a variable universe fuzzy Proportional-Integral (PI) controller is proposed, building upon standard fuzzy PI control. First, the diversity of the population and the global exploration capability of the algorithm are enhanced through the integration of the Cauchy mutation strategy and uniform distribution strategy. Subsequently, the fusion of Cauchy mutation and opposition-based learning, along with modifications to the optimal position, further improves the algorithm's ability to escape local optima.

Genomic data on from the African continent are currently lacking, resulting in the region being under-represented in global analyses of infection (CDI) epidemiology. For the first time in Nigeria, we utilized whole-genome sequencing and phylogenetic tools to compare isolates from diarrhoeic human patients (=142), livestock (=38), poultry manure (=5) and dogs (=9) in the same geographic area (Makurdi, north-central Nigeria) and relate them to the global population. In addition, selected isolates were tested for antimicrobial susceptibility (=33) and characterized by PCR ribotyping (=53).

This study investigates the production of high-purity cellulose pulp from peach (Prunus persica) fruit wastes generated during the processing of a Greek compote and juice production industry. A three-step chemical process is used, including alkaline treatment with NaOH, organic acid (acetic and formic) treatment, and hydrogen peroxide treatment, with the goal of cellulose extraction and purification. A fractional factorial design optimized reagent levels, revealing the strong influence of NaOH concentration on α-cellulose content and degree of polymerization.
