Cholesterol Metabolism Modulation Nanoplatform Improves Photo-Immunotherapeutic Effect in Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma.

Adv Healthc Mater

September 2023

Nanjing Stomatological Hospital, Affiliated Hospital of Medical School, Nanjing University, No. 30 Zhongyang Road, Nanjing, 210008, China.

Impressive results in cancer treatment have been obtained through immunotherapy. However, abnormally high cholesterol metabolism in the tumor microenvironment (TME) leads to poor immunogenicity or even immunosuppression, which dramatically reduces the clinical response of patients with oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) to immunotherapy. In this study, a cholesterol-modulating nanoplatform (PYT NP) is developed to restore the normal immune microenvironment, significantly inhibiting SQLE (an essential gene for cholesterol biosynthesis in tumor cells) by releasing terbinafine, thereby reducing cholesterol in the TME and suppressing tumor cell proliferation.

Xuzhou Stomatological Hospital, No. 130 Huaihai West Road, Xuzhou, 221000, Jiangsu, China; Xuzhou Medical University, No.209 Tongshan Road, Xuzhou, 221000, Jiangsu, China. Electronic address:

The effectiveness of stem cell-based periodontal tissue engineering need to be assessed by preclinical animal studies. Dog models are widely used animal models; however, there are not sufficient data on characterization of canine dental mesenchymal stem cells. Therefore, we aimed to compare the characteristics among canine and human periodontal ligament stem cells and canine and human dental pulp stem cells.

Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC), the subtype of head and neck cancers, is notorious for its high incidence and death rate. The role of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) is discovered to be significant for the canceration and cancer progression. Long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 958 (LINC00958) is discovered as a carcinogene in multiple cancers, such as gastric cancer, pancreatic cancer, and glioma, but there has been no report about how LINC00958 functions in OSCC.

Effects of shear stress on endotheliaxl differentiation of stem cells from human exfoliated deciduous teeth (SHEDs) were investigated. SHEDs were treated with shear stress, then reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) was performed to analyse the mRNA expression of arterial markers and western blot analysis was performed to analyse protein expression of angiogenic markers. Additionally, in vitro matrigel angiogenesis assay was performed to evaluate vascular-like structure formation.

August 2018

Professor, Shandong Provincial Key Laboratory of Oral Biomedicine, Department of Prosthodontics, School of Stomatology, Shandong University, Jinan City, China.

Objective: The purpose of the review was to investigate the efficacy of platelet concentrates (containing pure platelet-rich plasma, leukocyte- and platelet-rich plasma, pure platelet-rich fibrin, and leukocyte- and platelet-rich fibrin) used in alveolar ridge preservation (ARP), especially the changes in alveolar width and height.

Data Sources: Randomized clinical trials that compared the efficiency of platelet concentrates used in ARP were searched till June 2017 in 6 databases: PubMed, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, EMBOSE, EMBASE, Web of Sciences, and AMED. A meta-analysis would be performed if the heterogeneity was acceptable.

Blockade of LGR4 inhibits proliferation and odonto/osteogenic differentiation of stem cells from apical papillae.

J Mol Histol

December 2017

Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Oral Diseases, Nanjing Medical University, 136 Hanzhong Road, Nanjing, Jiangsu, 210029, China.

During tooth root development, stem cells from apical papillae (SCAPs) are indispensable, and their abilities of proliferation, migration and odontoblast differentiation are linked to root formation. Leucine-rich repeat-containing GPCR 4 (LGR4) modulates the biological processes of proliferation and differentiation in multiple stem cells. In this study, we showed that LGR4 is expressed in all odontoblast cell lineage cells and Hertwig's epithelial root sheath (HERS) during the mouse root formation in vivo.

This study aimed to investigate how long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) maternally expressed gene 3 (MEG3) inhibits the growth and metastasis of oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) by regulating WNT/β-catenin signaling pathway in order to explore the antitumor effect of MEG3 and to provide a potential molecular target for the treatment of OSCC. The RT-qPCR technique was used to quantitatively analyze the expression of MEG3 in cancer and adjacent tissues collected from the patients after surgery. Using the Lipofectamine method, the MEG3 overexpression vector and the siRNA interference vector were constructed and transfected into SCC15 and Cal27 cells, respectively, followed by cell proliferation, apoptosis and metastasis analyses.

Background And Objective: The goal of periodontal therapy is to regenerate/reconstruct the damaged supporting tissues of diseased teeth and to facilitate recovery of their physiological functions. Combination of stem cell transplantation and gene therapy offers a viable method for accelerating periodontal repair and regeneration. In this study, the role of the ephrinB2/EphB4 signaling pathway in regulating osteogenic differentiation of periodontal ligament stem cells (PDLSCs) and crosstalk between PDLSCs and pre-osteoblasts within co-culture was investigated through ephrinB2 transgenic expression in PDLSCs.
