As a member of the POU-domain family, the POU1F1 is a positive regulator for growth hormone, prolactin and thyroid-stimulating hormone b, by binding to target DNA promoters as a dimer in mammals. LIM homeobox transcription factor 4 (LHX4) is a LIM homeodomain transcription factor involved in pituitary gland and nervous system development. The aim of this study was to examine the association of the LHX4 polymorphisms with growth traits in beef cattle breed. A total of 7 single nucleotide polymorphyisms (SNPs) have been identified in the coding region and noncoding region of the bovine LHX4 by sequencing pooled DNA samples (Pool-Seq) and PCR-single strand conformation polymorphism (PCR-SSCP) methods.

The C/EBP β is a basic leucine zipper transcription factor that regulates a variety of biological processes, including metabolism, cell proliferation and differentiation, and immune response. Recent findings show that C/EBP β-induced inflammatory responses mediate kainic acid-triggered excitotoxic brain injury. In this article, we show that protein kinase C ζ enhances K-ras expression and subsequently activates the Raf/MEK/ERK1/2 pathway in the hippocampus of domoic acid (DA)-treated mice, which promotes C/EBP β expression and induces inflammatory responses.

Actinomycin D (Act D), a well known of clinical antitumor drug, has been used for the treatment of some highly malignant tumors, however, the clinical application was limited by its extreme cytotoxicity. In the present study, we reported that methylated actinomycin D (mAct D), a novel actinomycin D analog isolated from Streptomyces sp. KLBMP 2541 in our previous study, could not only exert stronger inhibitory effects on several human cancer cells than Act D in dose- and time-dependent manner at ng concentrations, especially on HepG2 cells, but also lower cytotoxicity in normal cells (HL-7702).

Experimental results indicate that there is a distinct difference between the temperature tuning curves obtained with intracavity second harmonic generation (Intra-SHG) and extracavity SHG (Extra-SHG) configuration. By introducing the nonlinear SHG loss with the phase mismatch taken into consideration, the rate equations are established to describe the Intra-SHG laser performance. As for the widely used SHG crystal, KTP and LBO, theoretically calculated variation trends of the temperature insensitivity are in agreement with that obtained experimentally.

High and mighty: Octahedral SnO(2) particles bound by high-index {332} facets were synthesized by a simple hydrothermal route using SnCl(2)⋅5 H(2)O as the tin salt with the assistance of hydrochloric acid and poly(vinylpyrrolidone). These particles show excellent selective gas sensing performance because they have large numbers of dangling bonds on their surfaces.

Four novel fluorescence dyes of the pyrazoline were synthesized and fully characterized by means of (1)H, (13)C NMR, and HRMS. The optical, electrochemical properties were also investigated. Solvent effect on the fluorescence characteristics of the four compounds indicates that the emission wavelength was red-shifted with the increase of solvent polarity.

The three members of the T1R class of taste-specific G protein-coupled receptors have been proven to function in combination with heterodimeric sweet and umami taste receptors in many mammals that affect food intake. A new multicomponent domino reaction for rapid and regioselective synthesis of highly functionalized benzo[h]naphtho[2,3-a]acridine-15,16(5H,14H)-diones has been established. The reaction can be conducted by using readily available and inexpensive substrates under microwave irradiation. The procedures are facile, avoiding timeconsuming and costly syntheses, tedious work-up and purifications of precursors as well as protection/deprotection of functional groups.

A highly α-regioselective prenylation of imines has been successfully developed. The efficiency of this approach is confirmed by a wide range of imines including N- and C-aryl aldimines, N-alkyl aldimines, C-alkyl aldimines, and N- and C-aryl ketimines. The approach uses prenyl bromide as the prenyl source and inexpensive and convenient zinc as the mediator as well as environmentally benign 1,3-dimethyl-2-imidazolidinone (DMI) as the solvent.

Efficient domino approaches for the synthesis of multifunctionalized tricyclic fused pyrroles and dibenzo[b,e][1,4]diazepin-1-ones have been established. The reaction pathways were controlled by varying enaminones with different substituted patterns to give a series of new fused pyrroles and dibenzo[b,e][1,4]diazepin-1-ones selectively. The complete anti diastereoselectivity was achieved for the first reaction.

Objective: We isolated and identified endophytic bacteria from halotolerant plants collected from coastal shoal of Nantong and investigated their heavy-metal tolerance and plant growth promoting potential.
Methods: In total 45 strains were obtained from 4 halotolerant plants and 23 representative isolates were selected to detect their tolerance against NaCl and heavy metals of Cu2+, Pb2+, Cd2+, Zn2+, Hg2+; plant growth promoting index of nitrogen fixation, phosphate solubilization, indoleacetic acid (IAA) production and 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid (ACC) deaminase.
Results: Most of the isolates could grow under high consistency of Cu2+ and Pb2+.

Carbenes ring true: N-Heterocyclic carbene (NHC) catalyzed reactions of α-bromo-α,β-unsaturated aldehydes/α,β-dibromoaldehydes with 1,3-dinucleophilic reagents, such as 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds, β-enamino ketones, and β-enamino esters through umpolung processes gave functionalized 3,4-dihydropyranones and 3,4-dihydropyridinones. The availability of the starting materials, lack of external oxidant, and usefulness of the products make this strategy attractive.

Benzo[f]pyrido[1,2-a]indole-6,11-diones have been synthesized in high yields by copper(II)-catalyzed three-component reactions of acyl bromide, 1,4-naphthoquinone, and pyridine (or isoquinoline) via sp(2)-C-H difunctionalization of naphthoquinone followed by intramolecular cyclization and oxidative aromatization. In an attempt to expand the reaction scope and to help clarify the reaction mechanism, 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds are used in place of acyl bromides to take part in this reaction, and the benzo[f]pyrido[1,2-a]indole-6,11-diones derivatives are also obtained in excellent yields.
