Fullerenols, a water-soluble polyhydroxy derivative of fullerene, hold promise in medical and materials science due to their unique properties. However, concerns about their potential embryotoxicity remain. Using a pregnancy mouse model and metabolomics analysis, our findings reveal that fullerenols exposure during pregnancy not only significantly reduced mice placental weight and villi thickness, but also altered the classes and concentrations of metabolites in the mouse placenta.

Renal interstitial fibrosis (RIF) is a common pathway in chronic kidney disease (CKD) that ultimately leads to end-stage renal failure, worsening both glomerulosclerosis and interstitial fibrosis. Ten percent of the adult population in the world suffers from CKD, and as the ageing population continues to rise, it is increasingly regarded as a global threat-a silent epidemic. CKD has been discovered to be closely associated with both long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) and microRNAs (miRNAs), while the precise molecular processes behind this relationship are still unclear.

Background: National Medical Licensing Examination (NMLE) is the entrance exam for medical practice in China, and its general medical knowledge test (GMKT) evaluates abilities of medical students to comprehensively apply medical knowledge to clinical practice. This study aimed to identify nonacademic predictors of GMKT performance, which would benefit medical schools in designing appropriate strategies and techniques to facilitate the transition from medical students to qualified medical practitioners.
Methods: In 1202 medical students, we conducted the deletion-substitution-addition (DSA) and structural equation model (SEM) analyses to identify nonacademic predictors of GMKT performance from 98 candidate variables including early life events, physical conditions, psychological and personality assessments, cognitive abilities, and socioeconomic conditions.

The comparison between traditional Chinese medicine Jinzhen oral liquid (JZOL) and Western medicine in treating children with acute bronchitis (AB) showed encouraging outcomes. This trial evaluated the efficacy and safety of the JZOL for improving cough and expectoration in children with AB. 480 children were randomly assigned to take JZOL or ambroxol hydrochloride and clenbuterol hydrochloride oral solution for 7 days.

Objective: To explore the results of four types of Urea cycle disorders (UCDs) in newborns from the Xuzhou region, assess the efficacy of newborn screening by tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS), and analyze their genetic characteristics.
Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed using tandem mass spectrometry to screen for inherited metabolic disorders in 691 712 newborns at the Maternal and Child Health Care Hospital of Xuzhou from November 2015 to December 2023. Ten children (cases 1-10) were diagnosed with Ornithine transcarbamylase deficiency (OTCD), Carbamoylphosphate synthase 1 deficiency (CPS1D), Arginase deficiency (ARGD), and Argininosuccinate synthase deficiency (ASSD) based on MS/MS and genetic testing.

Background: The use of visceral obesity as an indicator for predicting female infertility risk has not been well established. The body roundness index (BRI) is a novel, non-invasive indicator of visceral fat; however, previous reports have not addressed the relationship between the BRI and female infertility. This study sought to fill this research gap by investigating the association between the BRI and the risk of female infertility.

Background: Chronic salpingitis is one of the most common causes of female infertility. Luteal support is a critical step for embryo transfer. Here, we evaluated the effects of two luteal support regimens, intramuscular progesterone (IMP) and progesterone vaginal gel (VAG), on the pregnancy outcomes in patients with chronic salpingitis undergoing vitrified-warmed embryo transfer.

Objective: Bipolar affective disorder (BAD) is a mood disorder with high morbidity and mortality. Quetiapine can be used in the treatment of patients with BAD; however, the precise administration regimen of quetiapine in these patients is still unknown. In this study, a population pharmacokinetic (PPK) model of quetiapine in patients with BAD was constructed based on model-informed precision dosing (MIPD) and real-world clinical data and an optimal initial dose of quetiapine in these patients was recommended.

Zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles (NPs) are extensively utilized in the commercial and biomedical sectors, posing heightened risks of potential cytotoxicity through various mechanisms. Nonetheless, the regulatory framework governing the gestational toxicity of ZnO NPs and the corresponding intervention strategies remain largely obscure. In this study, using the model, we observed that gestational exposure to ZnO NPs led to growth and developmental anomalies in a dose-dependent manner when compared with the control (no ZnO NP exposure).

A pressing need exists for cost-efficient, broadly accessible tools to aid patient for universal testing. Herein, we investigate the value of ZOOMit diffusion kurtosis imaging (DKI) and diffusion weighted imaging (DWI) based on preoperative pelvic magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) images in assessing MSI in EC.

Objective: Although quetiapine has been approved for use in schizophrenic patients, its individualized dosage regimen remains unclear, especially with respect to drug-drug interactions (DDIs). Thus, we investigated the potential DDIs and optimal initial dosage of quetiapine in schizophrenic patients based on population pharmacokinetics (PPK).
Methods: Ninety-six schizophrenic patients treated with quetiapine were included to establish the PPK model, which also includes coadministration of multiple drugs.

The purple sweet potato anthocyanins (PSPA) are known for their diverse health benefits, yet their hepatoprotective effects and the mechanisms by which they combat liver fibrosis have not been thoroughly investigated. This study aimed to elucidate these effects by employing a carbon tetrachloride (CCl)-induced mouse model of liver fibrosis. We conducted a comprehensive analysis of the effects of PSPA on liver injury, oxidative stress, inflammation, and fibrosis-related signaling pathways.

Background: Newborn screening (NBS) for isovaleric acidemia (IVA) is implemented via tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS), but false-positive results are still common. In addition, NBS for IVA is limited by a lack of suitable biomarkers, especially after the use of pivaloylester-containing antibiotics.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective cohort study to explore the clinical correlation between antibiotic administration and false-positive results for isovalerylcarnitine (C5).
