Objective: To verify whether severe weight loss is a reasonable risk sign for the effect of PD-1 treatment in advanced gastric cancer (GC) patients.
Methods: 127 metastatic or recurrent GC patients treated with PD-1 inhibitors in Xuzhou Central Hospital were involved in this study. Two cohorts with different variables were built; one was used to reveal the relationship between body weight loss and overall survival (OS), and the other was used to find which body composition contributed to the weight loss.

The colonic mucus layer plays a critical role in maintaining the integrity of the colonic mucosal barrier, serving as the primary defense against colonic microorganisms. Predominantly composed of mucin 2 (MUC2), a glycosylation-rich protein, the mucus layer forms a gel-like coating that covers the colonic epithelium surface. This layer provides a habitat for intestinal microorganisms, which can utilize mucin glycans present in the mucus layer as a sustainable source of nutrients.

Background: Bladder urothelial carcinoma (BUC) ranks second in the incidence of urogenital system tumors, and the treatment of BUC needs to be improved. Puerarin, a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), has been shown to have various effects such as anti-cancer effects, the promotion of angiogenesis, and anti-inflammation. This study investigates the effects of puerarin on BUC and its molecular mechanisms.

Background: Inflammatory cytokine interleukin-6 (IL-6) plays a pivotal role in skeletal muscle degradation after intra-abdominal sepsis (IAS), with mechanism remained to be elucidated. Indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase 1 (IDO-1), a key enzyme in converting tryptophan into kynurenine, could be activated by IL-6, and kynurenine has been shown to be involved in muscle degradation. We hypothesized that IL-6 could promote muscle degradation via tryptophan-IDO-1-kynurenine pathway in IAS patients.

Background: The lateral intersecting margin (dog-ear) was a weak spot of the double stapled technique (DST), We designed "dog-ear" invagination anastomosis (DAIA), which could eliminate the "dog-ear" in laparoscopic anterior resection.
Patients And Methods: A total of 202 patients underwent elective curative LLAR + DST ( = 143) or LLAR + DAIA ( = 59) were enrolled in the study. Propensity score matching (PSM) was used to minimize the adverse effects.

This study aimed to explore the relationship between delta AG (ΔAG = AG - AG) during first 3 days after intensive care unit (ICU) admission and hospital mortality for patients admitted in the cardiothoracic surgery recovery unit (CSRU).
Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, we identified patients from the open access database called Multiparameter Intelligent Monitoring in Intensive Care III (MIMIC III).

The understanding of the genetic basis of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) has progressed rapidly, but the interactions among common genetic variants and metabolic risk factors have not been systematically investigated in studies with adequate statistical power. Therefore, we aimed to quantify the combined effects of genetic and metabolic environments on the risk of T2DM. Obesity is emerging as an independent risk factor for T2DM and arterial stiffness.

For the treatment of ejaculatory duct obstruction, transurethral seminal vesiculoscopy (TSV) is the most common method, but the success rate is much lower than studies that have reported. So we developed a new ultrasound-guided seminal vesicle radiography (UGSVR) combining CT three-dimensional reconstruction (CT-TR) technique to improve the success rate of TSV. Between June 2018 and November 2019, 32 patients were enrolled and randomly assigned to two groups: experimental group (UGSvR combining CT-TR) and control group (standard evaluation).

Previous studies had reported that the CDKAL1 (cyclin-dependent kinase 5 (CDK5) regulatory subunit-associated protein 1-like 1) rs10946398 C/A polymorphism associated with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in various ethnic groups, however, inconsistent results have been obtained in studies of different populations. We performed a meta-analysis of 13 studies for rs10946398 of CDKAL1 on genetic susceptibility for T2DM.The results showed that CDKAL1 rs10946398 C/A polymorphism associated with T2DM under allelic (odds risk (OR): 1.

Introduction: In this article, we utilized Ingenuity® Pathway Analysis (IPA®) bioinformatics analysis software and Metascape® bioinformatics analysis website tools to analyse the possible mechanism of ERH affecting tumourigenesis (proliferation and apoptosis) in bladder cancer (BC) T24 cells.
Methods: The ERH gene was knocked down, and BC T24 cells were divided into ERH normal and knockdown groups. Affymetrix® gene expression microarrays were performed to obtain a differentially expressed gene list (DEGL) between the 2 groups.

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is characterized by attention deficit, hyperactivity, impulsivity, and learning and memory impairment. Although the pathogenesis of learning and memory impairment is still unknown, some studies have suggested an association with hippocampus dysfunction. We aimed to explore the role of miRNAs in the learning and memory impairments observed in ADHD.
