Background: The prediction of coronavirus disease in 2019 (COVID-19) in broader regions has been widely researched, but for specific areas such as urban areas the predictive models were rarely studied. It may be inaccurate to apply predictive models from a broad region directly to a small area. This paper builds a prediction approach for small size COVID-19 time series in a city.

Baduanjin has been shown to be an effective method of exercise for promoting body function in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). However, this method is rarely used by rural doctors in rural communities. The aim of this study was to compare the therapeutic effects of Baduanjin exercise with those of conventional pulmonary rehabilitation (CPR) implemented by rural doctors in patients with COPD.

Introduction: This study aimed to assess COVID-19 re-infection rates among individuals previously infected between 2020 and November 2022, particularly during the first wave of high-intensity transmission, and to identify the risk factors associated with re-infection in Jiangsu Province, China.

Methodology: Epidemiological investigations were conducted through telephone interviews and face-to-face visits in February and March 2023. Statistical analyses included the Chi-square or Fisher`s exact test for categorical data, Student's t-test for numerical data, Poisson regression for influencing factors, and Kaplan-Meier for cumulative re-infection risk.

Article Synopsis
  • * Researchers analyzed data from 2,485 patients in China, finding that a significant number had both conditions and were more likely to experience poor glycemic control.
  • * Results show that having both dyslipidemia and hypertension greatly increases the risk of poor glycemic control, indicating that these conditions work together to worsen diabetes management.

  • The study investigates how environmental temperatures affect fatal acute myocardial infarctions (AMIs) in Xuzhou, highlighting that winter months see higher incidence and mortality rates of AMIs.
  • Using meteorological data from January 2018 to December 2020, the study analyzed the correlation between temperature extremes and lethal AMI cases, revealing that extremely cold temperatures significantly increase risk, especially for women and individuals over 65.
  • The findings emphasize that cold weather poses a serious public health risk, while high temperatures do not have a statistically significant impact on fatal AMIs.

Background: The teach-back method (TBM), also known as the "show-me" method, is a technique for verifying patients' understanding of health-related information that has been recommended for improving health literacy. However, the research on TBM effect on the outcomes of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients is limited. Therefore, the aim of this study was to examine the effect of a TBM intervention on the health status of COPD patients.

Intestinal microbiota contributes to host defense against pathogens while avoiding the induction of inflammation in homeostatic conditions, but the mechanism is not fully understood. To investigate the potential role of the bacterial metabolite desaminotyrosine (DAT) in regulating host defense and inflammation, we pretreated mouse bone marrow-derived macrophages (BMDMs) with DAT for 12 hours and then challenged with bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS). We found that DAT priming-enhanced type I interferon response while selectively inhibiting proinflammatory interleukin (IL)-6 production after exposure to LPS.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the spatiotemporal distribution of patients with hepatitis C virus (HCV) and the factors influencing this distribution in Jiangsu Province, China, from 2011 to 2020.

Methods: The incidence of reported HCV in Jiangsu Province from 2011 to 2020 was obtained from the Chinese Information System for Disease Control and Prevention (CISDCP). R and GeoDa software were used to visualize the spatiotemporal distribution and the spatial autocorrelation of HCV.

To survey the whole-body positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET-CT) examinations in Jiangsu Province and establish the diagnostic reference levels (DRL). A total of nine hospitals in southern, central and northern Jiangsu Provinces were selected. Activity duration product (ADP), activity per body weight (AW), dose-length product (DLP) and total effective dose (ET) were choosen to establish DRLs for whole-body PET-CT examinations.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examined how COVID-19 affected the rates of respiratory viruses in hospitalized children with severe acute respiratory infections (SARI) in Xuzhou, China, from 2015 to 2021.
  • Researchers analyzed virus detection rates using RT-qPCR on 1,663 samples, finding a decrease in overall respiratory virus detection from 46.2% to 36% after COVID-19 control measures were implemented.
  • While control measures reduced the incidence of some viruses, the rates of human rhinovirus (hRV) and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) remained unchanged during the study period.

Background: To assess the effectiveness of China's medicine and health care reform in promoting equity in health care utilization among rural residents, it is necessary to analyze temporal trends in equity in health care utilization among rural residents in China. This study is the first to assess horizontal inequity trends in health care utilization among rural Chinese residents from 2010 to 2018 and provides evidence for improving government health policies.

Methods: Longitudinal data obtained from China Family Panel Studies from 2010 to 2018 were used to determine trends in outpatient and inpatient utilization.

Coxsackievirus B3 (CVB3) was one of the most common pathogens to cause viral myocarditis. Circular RNAs as novel non-coding RNAs with a closed loop molecular structure have been confirmed to be involved in virus infectious diseases, but the function in CVB3 infection was not systematically studied. In this study, we identified that hsa_circ_0063331 (circDDX17) was drastically decreased after CVB3 infection by circRNA microarray.

Background: Colorectal cancer is one of the most common cancers in the world. Several studies suggest using the Asia-Pacific colorectal screening (APCS) score and its modified versions to select high-risk populations for early colonoscopy, but external validation remains rare, and which score should be selected for CRC screening in China is unclear. Validation of multiple scores in the same population might help to choose the best performing score.
