Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been identified as critical contributors in tumor progression for many types of cancer. However, their functions in gallbladder cancer (GBC) have not been systematically clarified. In this study, the clinical significance, biological function, and underlying mechanism of lncRNA in GBC were investigated.

Exercise has been proven to be an effective therapy for stroke by reducing the microglia-initiated proinflammatory response. Few studies, however, have focused on the phenotypic changes in microglia cells caused by exercise training. The present study was designed to evaluate the influence of treadmill exercise on microglia polarization and the molecular mechanisms involved.

Our previous study identified euphornin L as an active lipid-lowering compound in high-fat diet-fed Golden Syrian hamsters. The aim of the present study was to investigate the mechanisms underlying the lipid-lowering effects of euphornin L. Euphornin L in HepG2 cells was assessed via DiI-LDL update assays and found to increase LDL-update and LDLR protein levels.

Background: Sphingosine Kinase (SphK) that catalyzes sphingosine (Sph) to sphingosine 1-phosphate (S1P), plays a key role in both sphingolipid metabolism and cellular signaling. While SphK has been implicated in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), it is unexplored in humans. Herein, we investigated whether circulating SphK-related metabolites are associated with T2DM incidence in an established prospective cohort.

Berberine is an alkaloid from several medicinal plants originally used to treat diarrhea and dysentery as a traditional Chinese herbal medicine. In recent years, berberine has been discovered to exhibit a wide spectrum of biological activities in the treatment of diverse diseases ranging from cancer and neurological dysfunctions to metabolic disorders and heart diseases. This review article summarizes the clinical practice and laboratory exploration of berberine for the treatment of cardiometabolic and heart diseases, with a focus on the novel insights and recent advances of the underlying mechanisms recognized in the past decade.

Growing evidence has demonstrated exercise as an effective way to promote cardiovascular health and protect against cardiovascular diseases However, the underlying mechanisms of the beneficial effects of exercise have yet to be elucidated. Animal exercise studies are widely used to investigate the key mechanisms of exercise-induced cardiovascular protection. However, standardized procedures and well-established evaluation indicators for animal exercise models are needed to guide researchers in carrying out effective, high-quality animal studies using exercise to prevent and treat cardiovascular diseases.

Acute myocardial infarction (MI), caused by acute coronary artery obstruction, is a common cardiovascular event leading to mortality. Nuclear dot protein 52 (NDP52) is an essential selective autophagy adaptor, although its function in MI is still obscure. This study was designed to examine the function of NDP52 in MI and the associated mechanisms.

Purpose: Henagliflozin is a highly selective and effective sodium glucose co-transporter (SGLT)-2 inhibitor developed for the treatment of patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). This study aimed to investigate the effects of meal intake on the pharmacokinetic properties of henagliflozin, and to understand the excretion pathways of henagliflozin in humans.
Methods: In this Phase I, randomized, open-label, single-dose, two-period crossover study, 12 healthy male Chinese volunteers were randomized to receive either henagliflozin 10 mg in the fasted condition followed by henagliflozin 10 mg in the fed condition, or the reverse schedule, with the two administrations separated by a washout period of at least 7 days.

Fructose-1,6-bisphosphatase (FBP1) is a rate-limiting enzyme in gluconeogenesis and an important tumor suppressor in human malignancies. Here, we aimed to investigate the expression profile of FBP1 in ovarian cancer, the molecular mechanisms that regulate FBP1 expression and to examine how the FBP1 regulatory axis contributes to tumorigenesis and progression in ovarian cancer. We showed that FBP1 expression was significantly decreased in ovarian cancer tissues compared with normal ovarian tissues, and low-FBP1 expression predicted poor prognosis in patients with ovarian cancer.

Background: The abnormal upregulation of programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) in cancer cells inhibits T cell-mediated cytotoxicity, but the molecular mechanisms that drive and maintain PD-L1 expression are still incompletely understood.
Methods: Combined analyses of genomes and proteomics were applied to find potential regulators of PD-L1. In vitro experiments were performed to investigate the regulatory mechanism of PD-L1 by thyroid adenoma associated gene (THADA) using human colorectal cancer (CRC) cells.

Hypothesis: Oil adsorption is significant for water purification and environmental protection. However, the conventional bulk sorbents face the predicament of uncontrollable motion as well as hydrophobic nature the whole body, which largely restricts their uptake capacity underwater. Hence, novel adsorbent material for high-efficient oil uptake both at the surface and under the water is urgently required.

Metastatic tumors present great challenges in diagnosis and treatment. Herein, a proof-of-concept theranostic nanoplatform composed of an Au nanoparticle core and a double-shell of metal-organic framework (MOF) and mesoporous silica (MS) is developed for combating spinal metastasis of lung cancer in an orthotopic model. Two drugs, Alpelisib (BYL719) as an inhibitor and cisplatin as a chemotherapeutic drug, are separately loaded into the double-shell with high loading content.
