Neurodegenerative disorders are straining public health worldwide. During neurodegenerative disease progression, aberrant neuronal network activity, bioenergetic impairment, adaptive neural plasticity impairment, dysregulation of neuronal Ca homeostasis, oxidative stress, and immune inflammation manifest as characteristic pathological changes in the cellular milieu of the brain. There is no drug for the treatment of neurodegenerative disorders, and therefore, strategies/treatments for the prevention or treatment of neurodegenerative disorders are urgently needed.

Background: Trials of endovascular therapy for basilar artery occlusion, including vertebral occlusion extending into the basilar artery, have shown inconsistent results. We aimed to pool data to estimate safety and efficacy and to explore the benefit across pre-specified subgroups through individual patient data meta-analysis.
Methods: VERITAS was a systematic review and meta-analysis that pooled patient-level data from trials that recruited patients with vertebrobasilar ischaemic stroke who were randomly assigned to treatment with either endovascular therapy or standard medical treatment alone.

The immune system is intricately interconnected with all other bodily systems. As individuals age, the immune system undergoes changes known as immunosenescence, increasing susceptibility to disease, and contributing significantly to the morbidity and mortality observed in older populations. Immunosenescence drives systemic aging and therefore represents a key therapeutic target to extend healthy aging.

Cooperative interactions profoundly shape individual and collective behaviors of social animals. Successful cooperation requires coordinated efforts by cooperators toward collective goals. However, the underlying behavioral dynamics and neuronal mechanisms within and between cooperating brains remain largely unknown.

Reproductive aging, spanning an age-related functional decline in the female and male reproductive systems, compromises fertility and leads to a range of health complications. In this Perspective, we first introduce a comprehensive framework for biomarkers applicable in clinical settings and discuss the existing repertoire of biomarkers used in practice. These encompass functional, imaging-based and biofluid-based biomarkers, all of which reflect the physiological characteristics of reproductive aging and help to determine the reproductive biological age.

Dural arteriovenous fistulas of the falx cerebri are extremely rare and may be associated with the falcine sinus. The distal dural supply from the anterior cerebral artery comes via the pericallosal artery. This artery can send branches to the free edge of the falx cerebri.

Background And Objectives: Abnormal glymphatic system-related proteins have been identified in a small-scale pathologic study of patients with Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD). However, it remains unclear whether glymphatic dysfunction occurs in vivo in patients with CJD and whether this decline begins during the preclinical stage. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between glymphatic dysfunction and clinical characteristics in patients with CJD, as well as potential glymphatic impairment in preclinical CJD.

Background: Cardiovascular drugs can cross the placenta during pregnancy, potentially exposing the fetus to teratogenic effects. However, ethical constraints on clinical trials with pregnant women limit safety data and result in inadequate drug labeling.
Research Design And Methods: Using the FAERS database (2004-2023), we conducted a retrospective pharmacovigilance study analyzing adverse event reports involving congenital anomalies in newborns (<28 days).

Syringomyelia is a neurological disease that is difficult to cure, and treatments often have limited effectiveness. In this study, a rat model of syringomyelia induced by epidural compression was used to investigate the factors that limit the prognosis of syringomyelia. After we treated syringomyelia rats with surgical decompression alone, MRI revealed that the syringomyelia rats did not show the expected therapeutic effect.

In clinical specialties focusing on neurological disorders, there is a need for comprehensive and integrated non-invasive, sensitive, and specific testing methods. Both Parkinson's disease and multiple system atrophy are classified as α-synucleinopathies, characterized by abnormal accumulation of α-synuclein protein, which provides a shared pathological background for their comparative study. In addition, both Parkinson's disease and multiple system atrophy involve neuronal death, a process that may release circulating cell-free DNA (cfDNA) into the bloodstream, leading to specific alterations.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a gradually progressive neurodegenerative disease with tremendous social and economic burden. Therefore, early and accurate diagnosis is imperative for effective treatment or prevention of the disease. Cerebrospinal fluid and blood biomarkers emerge as favorable diagnostic tools due to their relative accessibility and potential for widespread clinical use.

Objective: This study aims to explore the variations and dynamics in the mental states of young patients with early breast cancer across different perioperative periods and to analyse how different surgical methods impact these patients' psychological well-being.
Methods: A prospective observational study was conducted on young patients with early breast cancer who underwent surgery from March 2021 to March 2022. Mental status questionnaires were administered at four key time points: preoperatively, 1 month, 6 months and 1 year postoperatively.

Introduction: Besides the comorbid risk factors shared by older and younger patients, older individuals may also experience malnutrition, as well as cognitive or functional impairments. The accumulation of frailty and various geriatric syndromes in older individuals results in decreased physiological reserves, which makes the recovery process after spine surgery particularly challenging. Theoretically, combining the presurgery optimisation provided by a multimodal prehabilitation programme with the reduction of surgical stress provided by an enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) programme could improve postoperative recovery of older patients.

The pathophysiological mechanism of adhesive arachnoiditis (AA) is complex, involving the interaction of multiple proteins. In recent years, the development of quantitative proteomics technology has provided a new perspective to reveal its pathological mechanism. The main objective of this study was to reveal the changes of protein expression profiles in arachnoid tissue of patients with AA.

Idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH) is a disease characterized by increased intracranial pressure (ICP) without identifiable secondary causes. While the increased ICP is a critical diagnostic feature, the underlying pathophysiological mechanisms remain unclear. Previous theories have suggested cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) overproduction, impaired reabsorption, or circulatory obstruction as potential causes.

To date, several studies have integrated genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and expression quantitative trait loci (eQTL) data from bulk tissues to identify novel Alzheimer's disease (AD) genetic variants and susceptibility genes. However, there is highly cell-type-specific nature in different bulk eQTL data. Until now, eQTL data from different brain single cells have been reported.

4-(2-Aminoethyl)-benzenesulfonyl fluoride (AEBSF) is a serine protease inhibitor that may alleviate endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, a significant contributing factor to cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury. The molecular crosstalk between ER stress, oxidative stress and autophagy represents a vicious cycle that can be pharmacologically targeted to minimize neuronal death after acute injuries to the central nervous system. However, the neuroprotective effects of AEBSF in the context of cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury remain unknown.

Objective: The optimal hypothermic circulatory arrest temperature during total arch replacement and the impact of hypothermic circulatory arrest temperature on postoperative neurological complications are still uncertain. The aim of this study is to explore the impact of hypothermic circulatory arrest temperature on short-term postoperative outcomes, especially neurological complications, for patients who undergo total arch replacement.
Methods: We retrospectively analyzed data of 2351 patients who underwent total arch replacement at 1 of 7 selected aortic centers from January 2016 to June 2023.
