Adhesive arachnoiditis (AA) is a rare form of chronic degenerative pathology associated with persistent inflammation in the arachnoid matter of the spinal cord. Despite the existing knowledge, the detailed pathological mechanisms underlying AA are not fully understood. This study aimed to elucidate through comprehensive single nuclei RNA sequencing (snRNA-seq) to delineate the transcriptomic landscape of AA.

Unlabelled: Carotid Blowout Syndrome (CBS) is a rare and life-threatening condition that necessitates prompt intervention to prevent fatal hemorrhage. This study compares the outcomes of two primary endovascular approaches: reconstructive interventions, which aim to preserve carotid artery function using stents or balloon angioplasty, and deconstructive interventions, which involve vessel occlusion to halt bleeding. A systematic review and meta-analysis were performed by searching multiple databases for relevant studies published from January 2000 to August 2023.

Rationale: The Chemical Optimization of Cerebral Embolectomy (CHOICE) trial suggested that the administration of intra-arterial alteplase after successful endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) may improve neurological outcomes in patients with acute ischemic stroke due to large vessel occlusion (AIS-LVO) in the anterior circulation. However, the use of adjunctive intra-arterial alteplase following successful EVT in acute posterior circulation stroke remains unexplored.
Aims: This study aims to investigate the efficacy and safety of intra-arterial alteplase after successful EVT for AIS-LVO in the posterior circulation.

BackgroundInsomnia is a common neurological disorder that exhibits connections with the gut microbiota; however, the exact causal relationship remains unclear. MethodsWe conducted a Mendelian randomization (MR) study to systematically evaluate the causal effects of genus-level gut microbiota on insomnia risk in individuals of European ancestry. Summary-level datasets on gut microbiota were sourced from the genome-wide association study (GWAS) of MiBioGen, while datasets on insomnia were obtained from the GWAS of Neale Lab and FinnGen.

Background: Awareness of the characteristics of glial fibrillary acidic protein autoantibody (GFAP-IgG) associated myelitis facilitates early diagnosis and treatment. We explored features in GFAP-IgG myelitis and compared them with those in myelitis associated with aquaporin-4 IgG (AQP4-IgG) and myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein IgG (MOG-IgG).
Methods: We retrospectively reviewed data from patients with GFAP-IgG myelitis at the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University and Henan Children's Hospital from May 2018 to May 2023.

Background: Epilepsy has a genetic predisposition, yet causal factors and the dynamics of the immune environment in epilepsy are not fully understood.
Methods: We analyzed peripheral blood samples from epilepsy patients, identifying key genes associated with epilepsy risk through Mendelian randomization, using eQTLGen and genome-wide association studies. The peripheral immune environment's composition in epilepsy was explored using CIBERSORT.

Vascular cognitive impairment and dementia (VCID), resulting from chronic cerebral hypoperfusion, represent the second most prevalent form of dementia globally. Aerobic exercise is widely acknowledged as an effective intervention for various cognitive disorders. This study utilized a bilateral common carotid artery stenosis (BCAS) model to investigate whether aerobic exercise promotes cognitive recovery through the Annexin-A1 (ANXA1)/mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) axis in BCAS mice.

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a devastating neurological disease with complex genetic etiology, yet most known loci were only identified from the late-onset type of European ancestry.
Method: We performed a two-stage genome-wide association study (GWAS) of AD totaling 6,878 Chinese and 487,511 European individuals.
Result: We demonstrated a shared genetic architecture between early- and late-onset AD.

Background: Prion diseases are a group of neurodegenerative diseases associated with prion protein. The disease can be caused by mutations in the PRNP gene, the gene that encodes prion protein. An octapeptide repeat on the N-terminus of prion protein plays an important role in normal intercellular function of prion protein.

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder and the most common cause of dementia worldwide. Dysregulation of various metabolism pathways may mediate the development of AD pathology and cognitive dysfunction. Variants of triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells-2 (TREM2) are known to increase the risk of developing AD.

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD), also known as senile dementia, is the most common degenerative disease of the central nervous system. Neuroinflammation is currently believed to be a crucial factor in the progression of AD, while its exact mechanism remains unclear.
Method: APP/PS1 AD mice were treated with a natural active ingredient tetrahydroxy stilbene glucoside (TSG) at 40 mg/kg/day and 80 mg/kg/day respectively for 5 consecutive months, and then the Morris water maze test (MWM) and the novel object recognition test were performed to assess the effect of TSG on the cognitive and memory ability of AD mice.
Background: Epidemiological evidence regarding the association between cataract onset age and risk of incident dementia remains unexplored. To examine whether age at cataract diagnosis is associated with risk of incident dementia and its subtypes.
Methods: This prospective, population-based cohort study utilized data from the UK Biobank that collected baseline information between 2006 and 2010.

Background: Evidence has emerged that the inflammation and immune mechanisms are involved in the relationship between hypertension (HTN) and cognitive impairment. We sought (1) to examine the combined effects of HTN and CD33, an immune-related and robust cognitive impairment susceptibility locus, with cognitive function in older adults and further (2) to explore the underlying mechanisms.
Method: This population-based study included 4444 dementia-free participants (age ≥65 years) in MIND-China; of these, data on gray matter volume were available in 1047 persons and cerebral blood flow (CBF) in 85 persons.

Aims: To analyze the effect of APOE ε4 on fluid biomarkers and the correlations between blood molecules and CSF biomarkers in AD patients.
Methods: This study enrolled 575 AD patients, 131 patients with non-AD dementia, and 112 cognitively normal (CN) participants, and AD patients were divided into APOE ε4 carriers and non-carriers. Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) biomarkers and blood-derived biomolecules were compared between AD and CN groups, between non-AD dementia and CN groups, as well as within APOE ε4 subgroups of AD patients.

Background: It is known that open wedge high tibial osteotomy (OWHTO) may lead to progression of patellofemoral degeneration due to descent of the patellar height. However, the difference in patellofemoral joint (PFJ) loads with normal daily activity between uniplane and biplane osteotomies is unclear. The purpose of this study was to reveal the differences in PFJ biomechanics between uniplane and biplane OWHTO using finite element analysis (FEA).

The brain of patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) was characterized by increased phosphorylation and oligomerization of α-synuclein (α-syn) and altered activity of enzymes regulating α-syn phosphorylation and oligomerization. Whether increased α-syn phosphorylation and oligomerization as well as related enzyme changes can be detected in the plasma of PD patients remains unclear. Here, we showed that human α-syn proteins incubated in PD plasma formed more oligomerized α-syn (O-α-syn) and phosphorylated α-syn (pS-α-syn) than those in healthy control (HC) plasma.

Background: Stereoelectroencephalography (SEEG), as a minimally invasive method that can stably collect intracranial electroencephalographic information over long periods, has increasingly been applied in the diagnosis and treatment of intractable epilepsy in recent years. Over the past 20 years, with the advancement of materials science and computer science, the application scenarios of SEEG have greatly expanded. Bibliometrics, as a method of scientifically analyzing published literature, can summarize the evolutionary process in the SEEG field and offer insights into its future development prospects.
