Background: Lower urinary tract (LUT) symptoms are reported in more than 80% of patients with multiple sclerosis (MS), most commonly an overactive bladder (OAB). The relationship between brain white matter (WM) changes in MS and OAB symptoms is poorly understood.
Objectives: We aim to evaluate (i) microstructural WM differences across MS patients (pwMS) with OAB symptoms, patients without LUT symptoms, and healthy subjects using diffusion tensor imaging (DTI), and (ii) associations between clinical OAB symptom scores and DTI indices.

Neurogenesis, play a vital role in neuronal plasticity of adult mammalian brains, and its dysregulation is present in the pathophysiology of Parkinson's disease (PD). While subthalamic nucleus deep brain stimulation (STN-DBS) at various frequencies has been proven effective in alleviating PD symptoms, its influence on neurogenesis remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the effects of 1-week electrical stimulation at frequencies of 60Hz, 130Hz, and 180Hz on neurogenesis in the subventricular zone (SVZ) of PD rats.

Vascular fibrosis is a widespread pathologic condition that arises during vascular remodeling in cardiovascular dysfunctions. According to previous studies, vascular fibrosis is characterized by endothelial matrix deposition and vascular wall thickening. The RAAS and TGF-β/Smad signaling pathways have been frequently highlighted.

High frequency (HF)-rTMS has been shown to improve cognitive functions in patients with schizophrenia (SCZ). This study aimed to investigate whether COX-2 rs5275 variants were associated with cognitive improvements following rTMS treatment in patients with SCZ. Forty-eight hospitalized patients with SCZ were assigned to the neuronavigation HF-rTMS group and 28 patients to the sham group over left DLPFC for 1 month.

Frailty is a complex age-related clinical disorder characterized by the decreased physiological capacity of multiple organ systems, leading to increased susceptibility to stressors. Because the clinical manifestations of frailty are heterogeneous, accurately diagnosing the degree of frailty and its predisposing factors is important. We investigated the prevalence of frailty and the related risk factors in elderly patients in emergency departments (EDs) in China using a clinical frailty scale (CFS) and a comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA) tool.

Objective: Existing studies have shown that thyroid dysfunction is associated with depression. However, its role in major depressive disorder (MDD) with comorbid anxiety remains unclear. The main purpose of this study was to compare thyroid function in a large sample of first episode drug naïve (FEDN) MDD patients with and without anxiety.

Few studies have examined the psychological impact on adolescents of family confinement and infection exposure during the COVID-19 pandemic. However, these surveys lacked follow-up data to determine how the family confinement affects participants' depression and anxiety. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the psychological status and related risk and protective factors of adolescents after two months of family confinement for preventing COVID-19 in China, and compare them with baseline data.

Background: Primary macronodular adrenal hyperplasia (PMAH), previously termed ACTH-independent macronodular adrenal hyperplasia (AIMAH), is a rare cause of Cushing's syndrome usually characterized by functioning adrenal macronodules and increased cortisol production.
Methods: To screen and analyse the microRNA (miRNA) profile of PMAH in order to elucidate its possible pathogenesis, a miRNA microarray was used to test tissue samples from patients with familial PMAH, patients with sporadic PMAH and normal control samples of other nontumour adrenocortical tissues and identify characteristic microRNA expression signatures. Randomly selected miRNAs were validated by quantitative real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR).

Objective: Cholecystostomy is a palliative treatment for patients unfit to undergo immediate cholecystectomy. Nevertheless, the role of cholecystostomy in the clinical management of such patients remains unclear. The Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation IV (APACHE IV) scoring system is useful for estimating the hospital mortality of high-risk patients.

Background: With the wide application of computed tomography (CT) in the screening of early lung cancer, more and more ground glass nodules (GGNs) have been found. Early intervention is helpful to improve the survival rate of lung cancer patients. Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) is an alternative option to manage primary or metastatic lung malignancies.

Aim: Gender differences in major depressive disorder (MDD) are commonly reported; however, gender differences in first-episode and drug-naïve (FEDN) patients with major depressive disorder remain unclear. This study aimed to examine potential gender differences in the prevalence and clinical correlates of comorbid anxiety in FEDN patients with MDD.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with1718 FEDN patients with MDD.

A growing number of studies have shown that brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) is associated with weight gain during antipsychotic treatment in schizophrenia patients. However, there is still a lack of research results in the initial stage of antipsychotic treatment. This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between weight gain caused by risperidone monotherapy for 12 weeks and BDNF level in antipsychotic-naive and first-episode (ANFE) patients with schizophrenia, and we hypothesize that this may depend on BDNF Val66Met gene polymorphism.

Background And Objective: Previous studies have indicated that brain morphological measures change in patients with amnestic mild cognitive impairment (aMCI). However, most existing classification methods cannot take full advantage of these measures. In this study, we improve traditional multitask learning framework by fully considering the relevance among related tasks and supplementary information from other unrelated tasks at the same time.

Deep brain stimulation (DBS) has been tentatively explored to promote motor recovery after stroke. Stroke could transiently activate endogenous self-repair processes, including neurogenesis in the subventricular zone (SVZ). In this regard, it is of considerable clinical interest to study whether DBS of the lateral cerebellar nucleus (LCN) could promote neurogenesis in the SVZ for functional recovery after stroke.

Patients with schizophrenia (SCZ) have cognitive impairments across several domains. Cognition decline is related to the complex interrelationship between brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) and redox system imbalance. However, the effect of sex on cognitive impairment and biomarkers has not been fully studied in patients with drug-naïve first episode (DNFE) SCZ.
