Transforming growth factor β-induced factor homeobox 1 (TGIF1) reportedly promotes the pathological processes of various malignant tumors. However, few studies have investigated the role of TGIF1 in gliomas. We aimed to explore the relationship between TGIF1 expression and the clinical characteristics of patients with glioma, including their overall survival.

Metabolomics and its Applications in Cancer Cachexia.

Front Mol Biosci

February 2022

Key Laboratory for Chemical Biology of Fujian Province, MOE Key Laboratory of Spectrochemical Analysis and Instrumentation, College of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Xiamen University, Xiamen, China.

Cancer cachexia (CC) is a complicated metabolic derangement and muscle wasting syndrome, affecting 50-80% cancer patients. So far, molecular mechanisms underlying CC remain elusive. Metabolomics techniques have been used to study metabolic shifts including changes of metabolite concentrations and disturbed metabolic pathways in the progression of CC, and expand further fundamental understanding of muscle loss.

REGγ drives Lgr5 stem cells to potentiate radiation induced intestinal regeneration.

Sci China Life Sci

August 2022

Shanghai Key Laboratory of Regulatory Biology, Institute of Biomedical Sciences, School of Life Sciences, East China Normal University, Shanghai, 200241, China.

Leucine-rich repeat containing G protein-coupled receptor 5 (Lgr5), a marker of intestinal stem cells (ISCs), is considered to play key roles in tissue homoeostasis and regeneration after acute radiation injury. However, the activation of Lgr5 by integrated signaling pathways upon radiation remains poorly understood. Here, we show that irradiation of mice with whole-body depletion or conditional ablation of REGγ in Lgr5 stem cell impairs proliferation of intestinal crypts, delaying regeneration of intestine epithelial cells.

Background: Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are versatile in functions and can regulate cancer development, including the modulation of cancer immunity. Immune-related lncRNA signatures predicting prognosis have been reported in multiple cancers, but relevant studies in gastric cancer (GC) are still lacking.

Methods: We performed a comprehensive analysis using TCGA and Immport databases and identified an immune-related lncRNA signature by univariate and multivariate Cox regression analysis.

Aberrant expression of kinesin family member 4A (KIF4A), which is associated with tumor progression, has been reported in several types of cancer. However, its expression and the underlying molecular mechanisms regulating the transcription of KIF4A in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) remain largely unclear. Here, we found that high KIF4A expression was positively correlated with tumor stage and poor prognosis in ESCC patients.

Disruption in mucins (MUCs) is involved in cancer development and metastasis and is thus used as a biomarker. Non‑small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) is characterized by heterogeneous genetic and epigenetic alterations. Lung adenocarcinoma (LUAD) and squamous cell carcinoma (LUSC) are the two primary subtypes of NSCLC that require different therapeutic interventions.

Background: Patients with extensive-stage small-cell lung cancer (ES-SCLC) have a particularly poor prognosis. And the treatment options for patients with relapsed or refractory ES-SCLC are limited. Thus, we conducted an open-label, multicenter, single-arm phase II clinical trial to assess the efficacy and safety of apatinib plus etoposide capsules as the third- or further-line treatment in ES-SCLC patients.

Acetylation-mediated degradation of HSD17B4 regulates the progression of prostate cancer.

Aging (Albany NY)

July 2020

Department of Oncology, NHC Key Laboratory of Cancer Proteomics, XiangYa Hospital, Central South University, Changsha 410008, China.

Steroidogenic enzymes are crucial in prostate cancer (PCa) progression. 17β-Hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 4 (HSD17B4), encoded by HSD17B4, lacks catalytic capacity in androgen metabolism. Now the detailed role and molecular mechanism of PCa development are largely unknown.

Mass spectrometry-based proteomic capture of proteins bound to the MACC1 promoter in colon cancer.

Clin Exp Metastasis

August 2020

Department of Pathology, Xiangya Hospital, Central South University, Changsha, Hunan, People's Republic of China.

MACC1 (metastasis associated in colon cancer 1) is a key driver that induces metastasis in colon cancer. However, the mechanisms by which MACC1 expression is transcriptionally regulated and the factors enriched at the MACC1 promoter remain largely unknown. The binding of proteins to specific DNA sites in the genome is a major determinant of genomic maintenance and the regulation of specific genes.

Na-K-2Cl cotransporter (NKCC) is expressed at exceptionally high levels in gastric parietal cells. Bumetanide, a potent loop diuretic that blocks NKCC, usually causes a decrease in gastric acid secretion. Endotoxaemia causes hypochlorhydria in vivo, in which lipopolysaccharide (LPS) plays an important role.

Background: The mortality rate during the acute myocardial infarction (AMI) phase has substantially decreased, but post-AMI cardiac remodeling remains an important factor affecting patient prognosis. Several circulating long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are reportedly involved in the chronic pathological process of cardiac function and remodeling in cardiovascular diseases. However, the potential roles of these circulating lncRNAs as biomarkers of cardiac function and remodeling during early-stage AMI remain unclear.
