Background: Surgical management of midcarpal instability (MCI), also referred to as carpal instability nondissociative, remains controversial because of limited evidence on different techniques. This study aimed to assess and compare differences in patient-reported pain, hand and wrist function, satisfaction, range of motion, and return to work in patients with nontraumatic MCI who underwent surgical treatment either through dorsal wrist capsulodesis or 3-ligament tenodesis (3LT).
Methods: Patients with MCI and persisting complaints after conservative therapy treated with 3LT or dorsal capsulodesis were included.

Background: In recent years, there has been an increase in the number of total hip arthroplasty procedures in the younger patient population. This active group has higher expectations of their prosthesis in comparison to the older population, and there is a greater physical demand for the prosthesis. Short femoral stems were introduced to retain proximal bone stock and joint biomechanics and became more common to implant in this specific population.

Background: The authors hypothesized that the 3-ligament tenodesis (3-LT) procedure is still sufficient-even in scapholunate advanced collapse (SLAC) cases-to reduce pain and improve wrist function. The authors compared patient-reported outcomes of scapholunate interosseus ligament (SLIL) injury patients with SLAC, to SLIL injury patients treated with 3-LT, and then to patients who underwent proximal row carpectomy (PRC), as a control group.
Methods: The authors included all patients with a traumatic SLIL injury and associated SLAC components treated with 3-LT and completed patient-rated wrist evaluation (PRWE) questionnaires preoperatively and at 12-month follow-up.

Purpose: Implant survival, range of motion, and complications of proximal interphalangeal joint arthroplasty have been reported often, but patient-reported outcomes are less frequently described. This study evaluated patients' experiences during the first year after proximal interphalangeal joint arthroplasty, measured with the Michigan Hand Outcomes Questionnaire (MHQ). The primary focus was the reduction of patient-reported pain after proximal interphalangeal joint implant placement and the percentage of patients who considered this reduction clinically relevant, indicated by the minimal clinically important difference (MCID).

Multiple studies have reported the effectiveness of treatment on contracture reduction in Dupuytren's disease. However, very few studies have attempted to quantify to which extent patient and disease characteristics influence the chance of achieving a straight finger after surgery. Therefore, the aim of this study is to explore to which extent pre-operative patient and disease characteristics can reliably predict a straight finger after surgery for Dupuytren's disease.

Objectives: The Michigan Hand Questionnaire (MHQ) is a commonly used evaluation for hand problems, but previous work reports conflicting evidence regarding the subscale structures. Rasch analysis uses probabilistic modeling of items and responses: if scale items can be fit to the Rasch model, it provides evidence of construct validity and interval-level measurement for precise statistical estimates. We conducted Rasch analysis on the MHQ to evaluate model fit, unidimensionality of the subscales, bias across person factors, and conversion to interval metrics.

Wrist pathology is often diagnosed by using the contralateral wrist as a comparison of baseline motion and strength. However, recent range of motion studies suggest that females have different carpal motion patterns compared to males and that the dominant carpal bones have different motion patterns. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of sex and hand dominance on in vivo kinematics of the scaphoid, lunate and capitate using four-dimensional computed tomography (4D-CT) analysis in healthy uninjured volunteers.
