Genetic variation in ZmKW1 contributes to kernel weight and size in dent corn and popcorn.

Plant Biotechnol J

June 2024

State Key Laboratory of Wheat and Maize Crop Science, Collaborative Innovation Center of Henan Grain Crops, College of Agronomy, Henan Agricultural University, Zhengzhou, China.

Kernel weight is a critical factor that essentially affects maize (Zea mays) yield. In natural inbred lines, popcorn kernels exhibit overtly smaller sizes compared to dent corn kernels, and kernel weight, which is controlled by multiple genetic loci, varies widely. Here, we characterized a major quantitative trait locus on chromosome 1, responsible for controlling kernel weight (qKW1) and size.

Due to its intricate heterogeneity, high invasiveness, and poor prognosis, triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) stands out as the most formidable subtype of breast cancer. At present, chemotherapy remains the prevailing treatment modality for TNBC, primarily due to its lack of estrogen receptors (ERs), progesterone receptors (PRs), and human epidermal growth receptor 2 (HER2). However, clinical chemotherapy for TNBC is marked by its limited efficacy and a pronounced incidence of adverse effects.

Functional Materials for Water Restoration: A "Fish Cage" for Efficient Capture of Pb(II) Ions.

Langmuir

September 2023

Key Laboratory of Medicinal Chemistry for Natural Resource, Ministry of Education and Yunnan Province, Yunnan Characteristic Plant Extraction Laboratory, School of Chemical Science and Technology, Yunnan University, Kunming 650500, People's Republic of China.

In this work, a "fish cage" material for trapping Pb(II) ions has been successfully obtained, which is a novel clathrate functionalized metal-oganic framework () by introducing free adsorption sites (SO). The three-dimensional (3D) cage structure of gives it a larger contact area and can capture "swimming fish" (Pb(II)) like a "fishing cage" in a water solution. This is the first high-efficiency adsorption material obtained by introducing free coordination groups.

Article Synopsis
  • Maxim is a dioecious tree from East Asia that is cultivated for its fruits and ornamental use, with ongoing studies focusing on its economic potential and comparative analysis of cultivated genotypes.
  • This research measured the levels of key endogenous hormones (ABA, IAA, GA3, tZR) in the tree's leaves, flowers, and fruits from different growth stages using High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) across various provenances.
  • Results indicated that Chengdu plants had a higher concentration of these hormones compared to those from Tokyo and Jiyuan, with hormonal levels significantly influenced by the tree's genetic traits and gender.
