Article Synopsis
  • - The study examines the link between the rs6068816 genetic variant in the CYP24A1 gene and hyperuricemia (high uric acid levels) using a case-control group of 130 patients with hyperuricemia and 130 controls.
  • - Results show that individuals with the CC genotype have a significantly higher risk of hyperuricemia compared to those with the TT genotype, with the serum uric acid levels being highest in CC carriers.
  • - The research suggests that the CC genotype, especially in overweight individuals, amplifies the risk of developing hyperuricemia, indicating a significant interaction with body mass index.

MRI findings and classification of brucella spondylitis: a China multicenter study.

Eur J Med Res

September 2024

Guangxi AIDS Clinical Treatment Center, The Fourth People's Hospital of Nanning, Nanning, People's Republic of China.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aims to create a standardized MRI classification for brucellosis spondylitis (BS) to improve treatment methods and post-treatment follow-up.
  • - It analyzed data from 615 patients diagnosed with BS over 12 years, identifying key MRI characteristics and categorizing them into three main types, with Type II being the most common.
  • - The findings suggest that using MRI features can enhance the diagnosis and treatment strategies for BS, providing a framework for ongoing patient management.

Background: Exposure to a hypobaric hypoxic environment at high altitudes can lead to lung injury. In this study, we aimed to determine whether curcumin (Cur) could improve lung barrier function and protect against high-altitude-associated acute lung injury.

Methods: Two hundred healthy rats were randomly divided into standard control, high-altitude control (HC), salidroside (40 mg/kg, positive control), and Cur (200 mg/kg) groups.

This study presents the case of a 40-year-old male patient after renal transplantation. The CT scan revealed a large mass in the lower abdomen and pelvis, with a branch of the right external iliac artery intersecting the growth. After a comprehensive examination, it was shown that the mass originated from the transplanted kidney, and a radical nephrectomy (including the mass) was performed.

Background: The C-reactive protein-albumin-lymphocyte (CALLY) index is a novel inflammatory biomarker, and its association with the prognosis of coronary artery disease (CAD) after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) has not previously been studied. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effect of using the CALLY index on adverse outcomes in CAD patients undergoing PCI.

Methods: From December 2016 to October 2021, we consecutively enrolled 15,250 CAD patients and performed follow-ups for primary endpoints consisting of all-cause mortality (ACM) and cardiac mortality (CM).

Efficacy and mechanism of action of Yanxiao Di'naer formula for non-alcoholic steatohepatitis treatment based on metabolomics and RNA sequencing.

J Ethnopharmacol

October 2024

Department of Pharmacognosy, School of Pharmacy, Xinjiang Medical University, Urumqi, China; Department of Pharmacy, Xinjiang Medical University Affiliated First Hospital, Urumqi, Xinjiang, China. Electronic address:

Article Synopsis
  • - Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), particularly nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), is a common chronic liver condition, and the Yanxiao Di'naer formula (YXDNE) from Uyghur traditional medicine has been used historically to treat liver issues, though its effectiveness and mechanisms in NASH remain poorly defined.
  • - This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of YXDNE for treating NASH using a high-fat, high-cholesterol diet and carbon tetrachloride in mice, alongside detailed analysis of its components and mechanisms involving various metabolic pathways.
  • - Results indicated that YXDNE significantly improved NASH in mice by influencing fatty acid metabolism and activating key signaling

Objective: Investigate the potential correlation between the age of initial sexual contact, the lifetime accumulation of sexual partners, and the occurrence of intracranial aneurysm (IA) employing a two-sample Mendelian randomization approach.

Methods: This research aims to elucidate the causal relationship between intracranial aneurysm (IA) and sexual variables. Two distinct sexual variables, specifically the age had first sexual intercourse ( = 406,457) and the lifetime number of sexual partners ( = 378,882), were employed as representative parameters in a two-sample Mendelian randomization (MR) study.

Background: The risk of intracranial aneurysms (IAs) is increased in individuals with depression and anxiety. This indicates that depression and anxiety may contribute to the development of physical disorders. Herein, to investigate the association between genetic variants related to depression and anxiety and the risk of IA, two-sample Mendelian randomization was performed.

Peri-implant disease (PID) is a general term for inflammatory diseases of soft and hard tissues that occur around implants, including peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis. Cytokines are a class of small molecule proteins, which have various functions such as regulating innate immunity, adaptive immunity, and repairing damaged tissues. In order to explore the characteristics and clinical significance of tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, interleukin (IL)-6, IL-10, and tumor growth factor (TGF)-β1 expression levels in serum of patients with peri-implant disease, 31 patients with PID and 31 patients without PID were enrolled.
