Pathological vascular remodeling (VR) is characterized by structural and functional alterations in the vascular wall resulting from injury, which significantly contribute to the development of cardiovascular diseases (CVDs). The vascular wall consists primarily of endothelial cells (ECs), vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMCs), and adventitial fibroblasts (AFs), whose interactions are crucial for both the formation of the vascular system and the maintenance of mature blood vessels. Disruptions in the communication between these cell types have been implicated in the progression of VR.

Chuanxiong Rhizoma (Chuanxiong), a traditional Chinese medicine, has been widely used to treat various nervous and cardiovascular system-related conditions. Its active components, senkyunolide A (SA) and 3-n-butylphthalide (NBP), have been proven effective in treating nervous system diseases. A new method was established based on microdialysis coupled with ultra-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UPLC-MS/MS) to estimate the concentrations of these components in brain extracellular fluid.

Introduction: Presently, the physiotherapy scoliosis-specific exercise recommended by the International Scientific Society on Scoliosis Orthopaedic and Rehabilitation Treatment guidelines is primarily advised for adolescents with scoliosis, and there is a lack of individualised and precise exercise therapy for children with early-onset idiopathic scoliosis (EOIS), whose bodies are in the nascent stages of development. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the efficacy of comprehensive spinal correction rehabilitation in treating EOIS.
Methods And Analysis: This study will be designed as a randomised controlled trial, and the subjects participating in the study will consist of 122 EOIS patients between the ages of 7-10 years.

Daratumumab is a fully human immunoglobulin G1 monoclonal antibody employed for treating relapsed/refractory multiple myeloma and light-chain amyloidosis. Quantifying monoclonal antibodies in serum presents challenges due to interference from biological matrices. This research aimed to develop and verify an liquid chromatography tandem-mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) approach for quantifying serum daratumumab, employing immunoglobulin G purification without alkylation, and to assess its applicability in patients with multiple myeloma receiving intravenous daratumumab.

S100A4 is primarily expressed in intestinal macrophages, and promotes colonic inflammation and colitis-associated colon tumorigenesis. Smad4 is also expressed in the colon; however, it inhibits colitis-associated cancer (CAC) development. The specific role of Smad4 in S100A4 cells in CAC remains unknown.

Background: Radiographic evaluation of the presumed lowest instrumented vertebrae (LIV) is crucial for determining the optimal fusion level for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (AIS) with main thoracolumbar/lumbar curves. However, few studies have examined its variations intraoperatively. This study aims to investigate the radiographic variations of the presumed LIV during fluoroscopic positioning to aid surgeons in decision-making.

An acute wound is the most common type of skin injury. Developing wound dressings with excellent mechanical properties, wound protection, comfort, angiogenic capacity and therapeutic effects is significant for effective treatments, yet remains challenging. Herein, we have designed a novel HAP-Alg composite dressing comprising a complementary ultralong hydroxyapatite (HAP) nanowire bio-paper and calcium alginate hydrogel.

Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a fatal neuromuscular disorder primarily attributed to the homozygous deletion of the survival motor neuron 1 () gene, with disease severity closely correlated to the copy number variations (CNV) of . Conventional methodologies, however, fail to provide a comprehensive gene overview of and are often both time-intensive and costly. In this study, we present a novel one-step MALDI-TOF MS assay for SMA gene testing.

Background: Hemimasticatory spasm (HMS) is an uncommon movement disorder of the trigeminal motor rootlet characterized by unilateral, involuntary, and paroxysmal contractions of the muscles of mastication. The mechanisms for HMS are still unclear, and an efficient treatment strategy still needs to be developed. This study aims to investigate the clinical features and surgical treatment of HMS.

Low-load resistance training with blood flow restriction (LRT-BFR) has shown potential to improve muscle strength and mass in different populations; however, there remains limited evidence in sarcopenic people diagnosed with sarcopenia criteria. This study systematically compared the effectiveness of LRT-BFR and conventional high-intensity resistance training (CRT) on clinical muscle outcomes (muscle mass, strength and performance), cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors and sarcopenia-related biomarkers of older people with sarcopenia. Twenty-one older individuals (aged 65 years and older) diagnosed with sarcopenia were randomly assigned to the LRT-BFR (20%-30% one-repetition maximum (1RM), n = 10) or CRT (60%-70% 1RM, n = 11) group.

The classification of TFEB-altered renal cell carcinoma (RCC) has been revised to include TFEB-rearranged RCC and TFEB-amplified RCC in the 2022 World Health Organization (WHO) Classification of Tumors of the Urinary System. Given the wide spectrum of TFEB-altered RCC in terms of morphology and clinical behavior, an accurate diagnosis is challenging yet crucial, particularly in aggressive cases. Moreover, the concurrence of TFEB gene rearrangement and amplification/gene copy number (GCN) gains was also observed, but there was limited knowledge of these cases.

Despite significant progress in repairing osteochondral injuries using 3D printing technology, most cartilage layer scaffolds are made of degradable materials, making it difficult to simultaneously provide extracellular matrix functionality while replicating the mechanical properties of natural cartilage layers. Additionally, their degradation rate is challenging to align with cartilage regeneration. Furthermore, double-layer scaffolds commonly used for repairing osteochondral often exhibit inadequate bonding between the cartilage layer scaffolds and bone layer scaffolds.

The progression of osteoarthritis (OA) is dramatically accelerated by excessive reactive oxygen species (ROS)-induced apoptosis of chondrocytes and the inflammatory response of synovial macrophages. In this study, we developed an injectable hydrogel with a catalase-mimicking nanozyme activity as a therapeutic agent for OA. In vitro experiments confirmed that the HA and peroxide-mimetic nanoenzyme-enhanced hydrogel, containing ε-polylysine/MnCoO (ε-PLE/MnCoO) nanoparticles, continuously eliminated ROS and inflammatory cytokines while promoting the polarization of inflammatory macrophages (M1 phenotype) towards anti-inflammatory macrophages (M2 phenotype) in dysfunctional microenvironments.

Reliable and reproducible measurement methods have been established, and reference values are used in almost all scientific disciplines. The knowledge of reference values is crucial to distinguish physiological from pathological processes and, therefore, subsequently, for the clinical management of patients. The image storage and documentation of measurements and normal findings should be part of quality assurance in imaging.

Point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) plays an essential role in pediatric emergency medicine by improving diagnostics and procedural safety. The role of POCUS in the care of pediatric patients in the emergency department has expanded considerably in recent years. Cranial and musculoskeletal imaging has significant potential, yet POCUS has also become a vital tool for common procedures, such as central and difficult peripheral intravenous access.

Cancer stem cells (CSCs) are involved in the regulation of tumor initiation, progression, recurrence, and chemoresistance. However, the role of microRNAs (miRNAs) in liver CSCs has not been fully understood. Here we show that miR-2117 is downregulated in liver CSCs and predicts the poor prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients.
