Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a major respiratory pathogen in infants. The early formalin-inactivated RSV not only failed to protect infants against infection, but also was associated with enhanced pulmonary inflammatory disease upon natural infection. A safe and effective vaccine should prevent the inflammatory disease and provide protection.

Ovarian cancer is one of the leading malignancies in women and the 5-year survival rate of ovarian cancer still remains poor. In the present study, we aimed to investigate the interaction between the miR-126-3p and PLXNB2 in the progression of ovarian cancer. The qRT-PCR data revealed a reduction of miR-126-3p level in ovarian cancer tissues comparing to the adjacent normal tissues.

July 2018

Key Laboratory of Forensic Genetics, Beijing Engineering Research Center of Crime Scene Evidence Examination, Institute of Forensic Science, Beijing, 100038, People's Republic of China. Electronic address:

Over the last decade, several panels of ancestry-informative markers have been proposed for the analysis of population genetic structure. The differentiation efficiency depends on the discriminatory ability of the included markers and the reference population coverage. We previously developed a small set of 27 autosomal single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) for analyzing African, European, and East Asian ancestries.

It remains unknown whether blockade of B-Raf proto-oncogene, serine/threonine kinase (BRAF) signaling and MET proto-oncogene, receptor tyrosine kinase (c-Met) signaling is effective in suppressing the growth of human colorectal cancer (CRC) cells. The present study investigated the effects of the vemurafenib alone and in combination with c-Met inhibitor PHA-665752 on the growth of human CRC cells and in mouse xenografts. HT-29 and RKO CRC cell lines with BRAF mutations and mice bearing HT-29 xenografts were treated with vemurafenib in the absence or presence of PHA-665752.

Objective: To observe the clinical efficacy of acupuncture with twirling reducing method for tinnitus of excessive liver-fire type.

Methods: One hundred and one patients with tinnitus of excessive liver-fire type were randomly divided into a twirling reducing method group (35 cases), a needle retaining group (33 cases) and a physical therapy group (33 cases). The patients in the twirling reducing method group were treated by acupuncture at Tinggong (SI 19), Tinghui (GB 2), Yifeng (TE 17), Zhongzhu (TE 3), Waiguan (TE 5), Xiaxi (GB 43), Taichong (LR 3), Qiuxu (GB 40), while the strong low-frequency twirling reducing method was applied at Xiaxi (GB 43) and Taichong (LR 3); the patients in the needle retaining group were treated with identical acupoints and needle insertion manipulation, but no reducing method was applied after needle insertion.

It is accepted that inflammation plays a critical role in the development of atherosclerosis; the pathogenesis is not clear. B-cell-produced interleukin (IL) 10 is an immune regulatory cytokine that can inhibit immune inflammation. This study tests a hypothesis that a psychological stress hormone, cortisol, suppresses IL-10 expression in peripheral B cells of patients with atherosclerosis.

Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is the leading cause of childhood hospitalizations. The formalin-inactivated RSV (FI-RSV) vaccine-enhanced respiratory disease (ERD) has been an obstacle to the development of a safe and effective killed RSV vaccine. Agonists of Toll-like receptor (TLR) have been shown to regulate immune responses induced by FI-RSV.

Objectives: Microglial cells in spinal dorsal horn can be activated by nociceptive stimuli and the activated microglial cells release various cytokines enhancing the nociceptive transmission. However, the mechanisms underlying the activation of spinal microglia during nociceptive stimuli have not been well understood. In order to define the role of NMDA receptors in the activation of spinal microglia during nociceptive stimuli, the present study was undertaken to investigate the effect of blockade of NMDA receptors on the spinal microglial activation induced by acute peripheral inflammatory pain in rats.

MiRNA-183-5p promotes cell proliferation and inhibits apoptosis in human breast cancer by targeting the PDCD4.

Reprod Biol

September 2016

Department of traditional Chinese medicine, Xingtai people's hospital, Xingtai 054000, China. Electronic address:

MicroRNAs are often aberrantly expressed in breast cancer and postulated to play a causal role in the onset and maintenance of breast cancer by binding to its target mRNA. Here, we evaluated the effects of miRNA-183-5p on cell proliferation and apoptosis which attempted to elucidate the potential role of miR-183-5p/PDCD4 axis in human breast cancer. We found that the miR-183-5p expression level was extremely promoted in breast cancer in comparison with the adjacent normal tissues.

May-Thurner syndrome (MTS) is caused by venous occlusion because of compression of the iliac vein by the iliac artery and vertebral body, leading to left lower extremity deep venous thrombosis, eventually resulting in a series of symptoms. Endovascular treatment has now become the most preferred method of treatment of MTS. The authors report a 66-year-old woman who was hospitalized because of increasing swelling in her left lower limb for almost 2 weeks.
