Combination therapy is a highly successful way to address the limitations of using a single treatment method and improve therapy's overall efficacy. In this study, we developed a unique hollow mesoporous silica nanoparticle (HMSN) coated with folic acid (FA)-modified bovine serum albumin (FA-BSA). This nanoparticle, referred to as HFB, was designed to target cancer cells and release dual therapeutic drugs, Indocyanine green (ICG) and Paclitaxel (PTX), in response to specific stimuli termed as HFB@IP.

Lung cancer remains a leading cause of cancer-related mortality, with surgical resection as a primary treatment modality. However, postoperative wound infections (PWIs) pose significant risks following thoracoscopic radical resection. This study aims to identify the risk factors and pathogenetic characteristics associated with PWIs in lung cancer surgery.

Purpose: Dexmedetomidine (Dex) is a potent and highly selective α2-adrenergic receptor agonist. Within an appropriate dose range, Dex can effectively attenuate the surgical stress response, provide intraoperative hemodynamic stability, and improve the patient recovery quality. High-dose Dex can delay patient awakening from anesthesia and increase the incidence of bradycardia.

Purpose: Diabetic retinopathy, a prevalent complication of diabetes, represents the leading cause of vision loss and blindness among middle-aged and elderly populations. Recent research has demonstrated the ameliorating effects of scutellarin on diabetes-associated complications such as diabetic retinopathy and type 2 diabetic cardiomyopathy. However, investigations into its protective impact and underlying mechanisms on diabetic retinopathy are scant.

Astaxanthin inhibits oxidative stress and apoptosis in diabetic retinopathy.

Acta Histochem

August 2023

Department of Ophthalmology, Xinchang County People's Hospital, Shaoxing City, Zhejiang Province 312500, China. Electronic address:

Background: The pathophysiology of diabetic retinopathy (DR) is thought to be influenced by oxidative stress. Astaxanthin (ASX) is a natural product with antioxidant effect, but it is not clear whether its mechanism of inhibiting the development of DR is related to anti-oxidation.

Methods: Rats were intraperitoneally injected with streptozotocin (60 mg/kg) to create DR rat models followed by ASX (20 mg/kg) for 45 days.

Purpose: Patients with obesity are more susceptible to hypoxemia. Anesthetic management for patients with obesity undergoing painless gastroscopy presents a severe challenge for anesthesiologists. Esketamine is a NMDA antagonist that has been proven to be beneficial for ameliorating respiratory depression owing to its sympathomimetic effect; however, there are no relevant reports on its use in patients with obesity.

Background: Glioblastoma (GBM) is a primary malignant tumour with high intracranial morbidity, high malignancy and poor prognosis. Abnormal changes in histone acetylation are closely related to the occurrence and development of cancer. However, there is still a lack of systematic research on histone acetylation in GBM.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of vitamin C combined with growth inhibitors on serum miR-130a, nitric oxide (NO), and hemostasis in the treatment of upper gastrointestinal bleeding (UGIB) in cirrhosis. Eighty patients with cirrhosis UGIB treated in our hospital from March 2021 to March 2022 were selected and divided into two groups using the random number table method. The control group received growth inhibitor treatment, while the observation group was given vitamin C combined with growth inhibitor treatment for 3 d.

Background: Diabetic retinopathy (DR) is one of the most common microvascular complications of diabetes. Celastrol plays a certain role in the improvement of various diabetes complications. Therefore, this study aimed to explore whether celastrol inhibited the proliferation and angiogenesis of high glucose (HG)-induced human retinal endothelial cells (hRECs) by down-regulating the HIF1/VEGF signaling pathway.

Background: Although home-based pulmonary rehabilitation programs have been shown in some studies to be an alternative and effective model, there is a lack of consensus in the medical literature due to different study designs and lack of standardization among procedures. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to compare the efficacy of a home-based versus outpatient pulmonary rehabilitation program for patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Methods: Five electronic databases including Embase, PubMed, Scopus, Science Direct, and Cochrane Library will be searched in May 2021 by 2 independent reviewers.

Background: Uremic pruritus (UP) is a common and frustrating symptom in patients receiving hemodialysis (HD). The majority of patients have mild to moderate itching of the skin, and a small percentage have severe itching, which seriously affects their quality of life and survival rate. However, little is known about factors that influence the intensity of itching in patients.

Activating transcription factor 4 (ATF4) promotes bone formation in human bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells. However, the underlying mechanisms of ATF4 in high glucose-induced injury of osteoblast still remain unclear. Small interfering RNA and plasmid targeting ATF4 were used to transfect MC3T3-E1 cells to knock down and overexpress ATF4 using Lipofectamin 3000.
