Background and purpose - Proximal femoral osteotomy (PFO) is commonly performed to treat children with developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH). Implant-related femoral fractures after osteotomy are sometimes reported, but the potential risk factors for these fractures remain unclear. We investigated the association of implant-related fractures with PFO and potential risk factors for these fractures.

Stabilization of hypoxia-inducible factor ameliorates glomerular injury sensitization after tubulointerstitial injury.

Kidney Int

March 2021

Department of Pathology, Microbiology, and Immunology, Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville, Tennessee, USA; Division of Pediatric Nephrology, Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville, Tennessee, USA. Electronic address:

Previously, we found that mild tubulointerstitial injury sensitizes glomeruli to subsequent injury. Here, we evaluated whether stabilization of hypoxia-inducible factor-α (HIF-α), a key regulator of tissue response to hypoxia, ameliorates tubulointerstitial injury and impact on subsequent glomerular injury. Nep25 mice, which express the human CD25 receptor on podocytes under control of the nephrin promotor and develop glomerulosclerosis when a specific toxin is administered were used.

Metabolic associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) is the principal worldwide cause of liver disease and affects nearly a quarter of the global population. The objective of this work was to present the clinical practice guidelines of the Asian Pacific Association for the Study of the Liver (APASL) on MAFLD. The guidelines cover various aspects of MAFLD including its epidemiology, diagnosis, screening, assessment, and treatment.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is now the most common etiology of chronic liver disease threatening global public health. However, the name "NAFLD" is no longer appropriate with the change of time. Recently, a new term, "metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease" has been proposed by an international panel of experts, which implies profound conceptual changes in terms of its metabolism-related etiology and disease heterogeneity.

Background: Information regarding the prevalence of PKU in the Middle East in comparison to other world regions is scarce, which might be explained by difficulties in the implementation of national newborn screening programs.

Objective: This study seeks for the first time to genotype and biochemically characterize patients diagnosed with hyperphenylalaninemia (HPA) at the Pediatric Metabolic Genetics Clinic at the King Hussein Medical Center, Amman, Jordan.

Methods: A total of 33 patients with HPA and 55 family members were investigated for pterins (neopterin and biopterin) and dihydropteridine reductase (DHPR) activity in dried blood spots.

Background: Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) is the most common deformity of the lower extremity in children. The biomechanical change during closed reduction (CR) focused on cartilage contact pressure (CCP) has not been studied. Thereby, we try to provide insight into biomechanical factors potentially responsible for the success of CR treatment sand complications by using finite element analysis (FEA) for the first time.

Background: Two studies have suggested that severe prolonged nausea and vomiting during pregnancy is associated with emotional and behavioral problems in offspring, with smaller sample size and short-term follow-up. Moreover, little information is available on the role of the brain structure in the associations.

Methods: In a US-based cohort, the association was investigated between severe prolonged nausea and vomiting in pregnancy (extending after the second trimester and termed SNVP), psychiatric and cognitive problems, and brain morphology, from the Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development (ABCD) study, from 10,710 children aged 9-11 years.

Myofiber necroptosis promotes muscle stem cell proliferation via releasing Tenascin-C during regeneration.

Cell Res

December 2020

State Key Laboratory of Cell Biology, CAS Center for Excellence in Molecular Cell Science, Shanghai Institute of Biochemistry and Cell Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai, 200031, China.

Necroptosis, a form of programmed cell death, is characterized by the loss of membrane integrity and release of intracellular contents, the execution of which depends on the membrane-disrupting activity of the Mixed Lineage Kinase Domain-Like protein (MLKL) upon its phosphorylation. Here we found myofibers committed MLKL-dependent necroptosis after muscle injury. Either pharmacological inhibition of the necroptosis upstream kinase Receptor Interacting Protein Kinases 1 (RIPK1) or genetic ablation of MLKL expression in myofibers led to significant muscle regeneration defects.

BACKGROUND Congenital talipes equinovarus (clubfoot), one of the most regular pediatric congenital skeletal anomalies, seriously affects the normal growth and development of about 1 in 1000 newborns. Although it has been investigated widely, the etiology and pathogenesis of clubfoot are still controversial. MATERIAL AND METHODS g: Profiler, NetworkAnalyst and WebGestalt were used to probe the enriched signaling pathways by using the Gene Ontology (GO), Human Phenotype Ontology (HP), Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG), Reactome (REAC), and WikiPathways (WP) databases.

Thousands of different nanoparticles (NPs) involve in our daily life with various origins from food, cosmetics, drugs, etc. It is believed that decreasing the size of materials up to nanometer levels can facilitate their unfavorable absorption since they can pass the natural barriers of live tissues and organs even, they can go across the relatively impermeable membranes. The interaction of these NPs with the biological environment disturbs the natural functions of cells and its components and cause health issues.

Osteosarcoma is the most common malignant bone tumor in children and young adults, and it has a survival rate of only 60% with current cytotoxic chemotherapy combined with aggressive surgery. The aim of this study was to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of the berbamine derivative 2-methylbenzoyl berbamine (BBD24) for osteosarcoma and . We used human osteosarcoma cell lines, primary osteosarcoma cells and mouse models to evaluate the inhibitory effects of BBD24 on osteosarcoma and to determine the molecular mechanism.
