Anaplastic thyroid carcinoma (ATC), as one of the most aggressive human malignancies, cannot be cured by iodine (I) internal radiotherapy (RT) because the tumor cells cannot effectively take up I and are resistant to radiotherapy. In this study, a facile and simple method was proposed to synthesize mesoporous polydopamine nanoparticles (MPDA) and tailor their morphologies by component-adjusting Pluronic micelle-guided polymerization. Then, MPDA were used not only as nanocarriers to radiolabel I, but also as photothermal conversion agents for photothermal therapy (PTT) to promote RT.

Despite the rising health burden of metabolic (dysfunction) associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD), there are no approved pharmacotherapies for MAFLD currently. This situation led to a significant escalation in drug development and randomized controlled trials for MAFLD, particularly as novel information about its molecular pathogenesis unfolds. Currently, there are numerous investigational candidate drugs for MAFLD in various stages of clinical development that act on different pathophysiological processes, such as metabolism/steatosis, inflammation or fibrosis.

Objective: Iminodipropionitrile (IDPN)-induced dyskinetic syndrome is characterized by abnormal repetitive involuntary movements with abnormalities in the neuro-transmission. This study explored the mechanism of glutamate (Glu)/γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA)-glutamine (Gln) metabolic circuit in rat dyskinetic syndrome and the possible regulation mechanism of "tiapride (Tia)."

Background: This study evaluates the cost-effectiveness of hemodialysis (HD) plus hemoperfusion (HP) with HD alone in adult patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD) in China.
Methods: A Markov model was constructed to assess the cost-effectiveness of interventions over a lifetime horizon. Model parameters were informed by the HD/HP trial, the first randomized, open-label multicenter trial comparing survival outcomes and incidence of cardiovascular disease (CVD) for HD + HP versus HD alone, and supplemented by published literature and expert opinion.

Multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2A (MEN2A) is a rare syndrome caused almost by germline RET mutation, and characterized by medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC), in combination or not with pheochromocytoma (PHEO), hyperparathyroidism (HPTH), cutaneous lichen amyloidosis (CLA), and Hirschsprung's disease (HD). The basal serum calcitonin (Ctn)/carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) levels are significantly correlated with the MTC stage. Metachronous surgery of MEN2A-specific tumors is a routine procedure.

Background: To quantify the associations between the under-five mortality rate (U5MR) and measures of pediatric human resources, including pediatricians per thousand children (PPTC) and the geographical distribution of pediatricians.
Methods: We analyzed data from a national survey in 2015-2016 in 2636 counties, accounting for 31 mainland provinces of China. We evaluated the associations between measures of pediatric human resources and the risk of a high U5MR (≥ 18 deaths per 1000 live births) using logistic regression and restricted cubic spline regression models with adjustments for potential confounders.
Background: We identified differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) survivors from SEER registries and performed Poisson regression to calculate the relative risks (RRs) of subsequent malignancies (SMs) by different sites associated with radioactive iodine (RAI) treatment, and the attributable risk proportion of RAI for developing different SMs.
Results: We identified 4628 of 104,026 DTC patients developing a SM after two years of their DTC diagnosis, with a medium follow-up time of 113 months. The adjusted RRs of developing SM associated with RAI varied from 0.

Methods: In a multicenter, tertiary-care hospital, outpatient-based, cross-sectional study, patients with advanced Parkinson's disease (Modified Hoehn & Yahr [H&Y] Stage II-IV with ≥3 h awake "off" time/day) from 10 tertiary hospitals throughout China completed the Parkinson's Disease Sleep Scale-2 (PDSS-2) and Parkinson's Disease Questionnaire-39 (PDQ-39).

Preeclampsia (PE) is a leading cause of maternal and perinatal morbidity and mortality; however, its etiology and pathophysiology remain obscure. PE is initiated by inadequate spiral artery remodeling and subsequent placental ischemia/hypoxia, which stimulates release of bioactive factors into maternal circulation, leading to hypertension and renal damage. Abundance of key components of cullin 3-ring ubiquitin ligase (CRL3), including cullin 3 (CUL3) and its neddylated modification, and adaptors including Kelch-like 2 (KLHL2) and Rho-related BTB domain containing protein 1 was all decreased in spiral arteries and placentas of PE patients.

Hedgehog signaling is aberrantly activated in hematologic malignancies and solid tumors, and targeting it is a promising therapeutic strategy against these cancers. Resistance to clinically available hedgehog-targeted Smoothened inhibitor (SMOi) drugs has become a critical issue in hedgehog-driven cancer treatment. Our previous studies identified inhibition of BET and CDK7 as two epigenetic/transcriptional-targeted therapeutic strategies for overcoming SMOi resistance, providing a promising direction for anti-hedgehog drug development.
