Background: Despite the growing application of the Dual-factor model of mental health (DFM), there is a paucity of research on military personnel. Additionally, existing cross-sectional studies indicate that resilience and perceived social support are associated with military mental health, but the lack of cross-lagged studies precludes researchers from making causal interpretations. This study aimed to explore the longitudinal relationship between resilience, perceived social support, negative dimension of mental health (depressive symptom), and positive dimension (life satisfaction) among military personnel using cross-lagged analysis.

Background: Antiviral drugs show significant efficacy in non-severe COVID-19 cases, yet there remains a subset of moderate COVID-19 patients whose pneumonia continues to progress post a complete course of treatment. Plasma-activated water (PAW) possesses anti-SARS-CoV-2 properties. To explore the potential of PAW in improving pneumonia in COVID-19 patients following antiviral treatment failure, we conducted this study.

Article Synopsis
  • The study focused on creating a predictive model for the response to neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (nCRT) in patients with locally advanced cervical cancer using T2-weighted MRI scans and clinical data.
  • A total of 138 patients were analyzed, with features extracted from MRI images and clinical information to develop a hybrid model that combined various classification techniques for better prediction accuracy.
  • The results showed that the hybrid model achieved an average area under the curve (AUC) of 0.80, significantly outperforming models using only clinical data or image features alone, thus demonstrating its potential for predicting treatment responses.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates the potential of immunotherapy for patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) and distant metastases, aiming to identify prognostic factors and develop a survival prognosis model.
  • - Researchers analyzed data from 100 NSCLC patients treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors between 2018 and 2021, monitoring survival outcomes over nearly three years to establish significant prognostic indicators.
  • - Key factors influencing overall survival included ECOG performance status, BMI, age-adjusted comorbidity index, lactate dehydrogenase levels, and absolute neutrophil count; a predictive model with strong accuracy (C-index of 0.81) was created and validated.

  • Aflibercept, used for metastatic colorectal cancer, has unclear antiangiogenesis-related side effects, prompting a systematic review of its adverse events when combined with chemotherapy.
  • The study included data from 2889 patients across 10 trials and showed notable adverse effects such as hypertension (44.2%) and proteinuria (31.3%) in single-arm studies, with higher risks noted in randomized controlled trials for hypertension and proteinuria.
  • Statistical analyses confirmed the increased incidence rates of serious adverse events in patients treated with aflibercept, highlighting the need for careful monitoring during treatment.

Background: Ultrasonography is the most widely used technique to diagnose echinococcosis; however, challenges in using this technique and the demand on medical resources, especially in low-income or remote areas, can delay diagnosis. We aimed to develop a deep convolutional neural network (DCNN) model based on ultrasonography to identify echinococcosis and its types, especially alveolar echinococcosis.

Methods: This retrospective, large-scale, multicentre study used ultrasound images from patients assessed at 84 hospitals in China, obtained between Jan 1, 2002, and Dec 31, 2021.

Background: The combined use of various flap techniques has rapidly improved the reconstruction quality of auricle defects that are complicated by a scarcity of periauricular skin after severe burns. Nevertheless, there is still no preferable method when the optimal alternative skin to cover the auricular framework is unavailable and the periauricular vascular network is devastated.

Case Description: Copious scars were observed in the periauricular region, neck, forearm, and supraclavicular region of a 19-year-old man.
