Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a primary liver cancer with high pathogenicity and extremely poor prognosis. The role of circular RNAs (circRNAs) in HCC carcinogenesis and progression remains to be determined. Based on the analysis of HCC-related databases, as well as the expression analysis and identification of 25 HCC patient tissues and HCC cell lines, we found that the hsa_circ_0031431 (circCOCH) is significantly highly expressed in HCC tissues and cell lines.

Objective: Patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) have an increased risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE). We conducted this study to develop a risk score algorithm for VTE in patients with SLE that provides individualised risk estimates.
Methods: We developed a clinical prediction model of VTE in 4502 patients with SLE based on the Chinese SLE Treatment and Research group cohort (CSTAR) from January 2009 to January 2020 and externally validated in 3780 patients with SLE in CSTAR from January 2020 to January 2022.

Objective: Spinal chordomas are locally aggressive and frequently recurrent tumors with a poor prognosis. Previous studies focused on a Cox regression model to predict the survival of patients with spinal chordoma. We aimed to develop a more effective model based on deep learning for prognosis prediction in spinal chordoma.

Ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) injury leads to a low success rate of skin flap transplantation in reconstruction surgery, thus requiring development of new treatments. Necroptosis and apoptosis pathways, along with overexpression of reactive oxygen species and pro-inflammatory factors in skin flap transplantation, are deemed as potential therapeutic targets. This study provides a paradigm for nanozyme-mediated microenvironment maintenance to improve the survival rate of the transplanted skin flap.

Background: Under physiological conditions, CXCL12 modulates cell proliferation, survival, angiogenesis, and migration mainly through CXCR4. Interestingly, the newly discovered receptor CXCR7 for CXCL12 is highly expressed in many tumor cells as well as tumor-associated blood vessels, although the level of CXCR7 in normal cells is low. Recently, many studies have suggested that CXCR7 promotes cell growth and metastasis in more than 20 human malignancies, among which lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer-associated deaths worldwide.

Background: An accurate diagnosis for high-suspicion nodules based on the 2015 American Thyroid Association (ATA) guidelines would reduce unnecessary invasive examinations. Elastography is a useful tool for discriminating benign and malignant thyroid nodules. The aim of this study is to investigate the diagnostic efficiency of elastography for high-suspicion thyroid nodules based on the 2015 ATA guidelines in the Chinese population.

The performance of a new monitor for the depth of anesthesia (DOA), the Depth of Anesthesia Index (Ai) based on sample entropy (SampEn), 95% spectral edge frequency (95%SEF), and burst suppression ratio (BSR) was evaluated compared to Bispectral Index (BIS) during total intravenous anesthesia (TIVA). 144 patients in six medical centers were enrolled. General anesthesia was induced with stepwise-increased target-controlled infusion (TCI) of propofol until loss of consciousness (LOC).

Objective: The objective of this paper is to assess the role of gender on survival rate and causes of death and organ damage in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) patients in China from 2009 to 2015.
Methods: We conducted a multicenter cohort study to analyze the differences in outcome data between male and female SLE patients. A group of 1494 SLE patients who fulfilled the 1997 American College of Rheumatology SLE classification criteria were enrolled in the Chinese Systemic Lupus Erythematosus Treatment and Research Group (CSTAR) registry from April 2009 to February 2010.

Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) have been applied in prevention from allograft rejection based on their immunomodulatory effects. However, conflicting results have been presented among recent studies, for which one possibility being acknowledged is that the exact effect is determined by the microenvironment when MSCs are applied in vivo. Using a hind limb composite tissue allograft model, we investigate the influence of IFN-γ-preconditioning on the immunomodulatory effects of MSCs and the subsequent allograft survival.

Microbial infections affect humans worldwide. Many quaternary ammonium compounds have been synthesized that are not only antibacterial, but also possess antifungal, antiviral and anti-matrix metalloproteinase capabilities. Incorporation of quaternary ammonium moieties into polymers represents one of the most promising strategies for preparation of antimicrobial biomaterials.

In this study, novel poly(γ-benzyl l-glutamate)/poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid)/bioglass (PBLG/PLGA/BG) composite scaffolds with different weight ratios were fabricated using a negative NaCl-templating method. The morphology, compression modulus and degradation kinetics of the scaffolds were characterized. The results showed that the PBLG/PLGA/BG composite scaffolds with a weight ratio of 5:5:1, namely PBLG5PLGA5BG composite scaffolds, displayed a pore size range of 50-500μm, high compressive modulus (566.

Antibiotics are widely applied in management of acne vulgaris, which raises the issue of antibiotic resistance. Due to improper application and supervision of antibiotics, antibiotic resistance has become a serious problem in China. So, the efficacy of antimicrobial therapy in acne is unclear without an objective monitor of antibiotic resistance of Propionibacterium acnes.
