Starch serves as a crucial energy source for both plants and humans, predominantly synthesized and stored in endosperms, tubers, rhizomes, and cotyledons. Given the significant role of amylose in determining the quality of starchy crops, optimizing its content has become a key objective in current crop breeding efforts. Tartary buckwheat, a dicotyledonous plant, notably accumulates high levels of amylose in its endosperm, surpassing common cereals like rice and maize.

Background: Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea (PED) is a highly contagious disease caused by Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea Virus (PEDV), resulting in a mortality rate of suckling piglets as high as 100%. Vaccination is the primary strategy for controlling PEDV infection, however, there is currently a lack of reliable methods for assessing the efficacy of vaccination. This study aimed to analyze serum and colostrum samples from 75 parturient sows with a specific vaccination strategy to measure levels of IgG, IgA, and neutralizing antibodies (nAbs) against PEDV, and to investigate the correlation between serum and colostrum antibody levels, as well as to identify potential biomarkers that can be used to evaluate immunization effects under field conditions.

Chloroplasts play a crucial role in plant defense against pathogens, making them primary targets for pathogen effectors that suppress host immunity. This study characterizes the Plasmopara viticola CRN-like effector, PvCRN20, which interacts with DEG5 in the cytoplasm but not with its interacting protein, DEG8, which is located in the chloroplast. By transiently overexpressing in tobacco leaves, we show that PvCRN20 could inhibit INF1- and Bax-triggered cell death.

The widespread occurrence of knee injuries in athletes when playing basketball, in particular, damage to the cartilage system of the knee joint is reviewed. Basketball players may develop post-traumatic chondropathy with a subsequent change in the functional state of knee joints, which is inextricably linked with a decrease in the quality of life, the occurrence of pain syndrome, shortening of career duration, an increased risk of surgical interventions, and possible disability, from a long-term perspective. This review was conducted to explore modern ideas about the impact of post-traumatic chondropathy on the functional state of knee joints in athletes during basketball games.

Over-application of chemical fertilizers and continuous cropping obstacles seriously restrict the sustainable development of tobacco production. Localized fertilization of beneficial microbes has potential advantages in achieving higher productivity, but the underlying biological mechanisms of interactions between rhizospheric microorganisms and the related metabolic cycle remain poorly characterized. Here, an integrative analysis of microbiomes with non-targeted metabolomics was performed on 30 soil samples of rhizosphere, root surrounding, and bulk soils from flue-cured tobacco under continuous and non-continuous monocropping systems.

Integrating lipid conjugation strategies into the design of nucleoside monophosphate and monophosphonate prodrugs is a well-established approach for discovering potential therapeutics. The unique prodrug design endows nucleoside analogues with strong lipophilicity and structures resembling lysoglycerophospholipids, which improve cellular uptake, oral bioavailability and pharmacological activity. In addition, the metabolic stability, pharmacological activity, pharmacokinetic profiles and biodistribution of lipid prodrugs can be finely optimized by adding biostable caps, incorporating transporter-targeted groups, inserting stimulus-responsive bonds, adjusting chain lengths, and applying proper isosteric replacements.
