Rationale: Eczematous eruption is an increasingly recognized form of drug-related eruption, typically reported in association with interleukin 17 (IL-17)A inhibitors. However, severe paradoxical eczematous eruption due to IL-17A inhibitors has been rarely reported. Herein, we reported a case of a man with severe psoriasis with erythematous scaly plaques on the scalp, trunk, and arms and legs after the administration of secukinumab was initiated.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a manifestation of hepatic metabolic syndrome that varies in severity. Hepatocellular carcinoma progresses from NAFLD when there is heterogeneity in the infiltration of immune cells and molecules. A precise molecular classification of NAFLD remains lacking, allowing further exploration of the link between NAFLD and hepatocellular carcinoma.

FAM83A gene is related to the invasion and metastasis of various tumors. However, the abnormal immune cell infiltration associated with the gene is poorly understood in the pathogenesis and prognosis of NSCLC. Based on the TCGA and GEO databases, we used COX regression and machine learning algorithms (CIBERSORT, random forest, and back propagation neural network) to study the prognostic value of FAM83A and immune infiltration characteristics in NSCLC.

Prognostic nomogram for female patients suffering from non-metastatic Her2 positive breast cancer: A SEER-based study.

Medicine (Baltimore)

October 2022

Department of Thyroid and Breast Oncology, Xiangyang No.1 People's Hospital, Hubei University of Medicine, Xiangyang, Hubei Province, P.R. China.

This paper aimed at constructing and validating a novel prognostic nomogram, so that physicians forecast the overall survival (OS) rates of female patients suffering from non-metastatic human epidermal growth element receptor-2 (HER2) positive breast. Information of primary female her2 positive breast cancer patients without metastasis was obtained from the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results (SEER) database with given inclusion and exclusion standards. Independent variables were obtained greatly by performing univariable and multivariate analyses.

The purpose was to develop a nomogram for the prediction of the 1- and 2-year overall survival (OS) rates in patients with brain metastatic non-small cell lung cancer (BMNSCLC). Patients were collected from the Surveillance Epidemiology and End Results program (SEER) and classified into the training and validation groups. Several independent prognostic factors identified by statistical methods were incorporated to establish a predictive nomogram.

CD147, a glycosylated transmembrane protein in the immunoglobulin superfamily, is overexpressed on the surfaces of various tumor cells and promotes cancer cell proliferation, invasion, and metastasis. Nanobodies, characterized by small sizes, high affinities and specificities, and low immunogenicities, are promising diagnostic and therapeutic tools. However, there are few reports on nanobodies that specifically target CD147.

Early renal impairment is associated with in-hospital death of patients with COVID-19.

Clin Respir J

June 2022

Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, Xiaogan Hospital Affiliated to Wuhan University of Science and Technology, The Central Hospital of Xiaogan, Xiaogan, China.

Introduction: Renal impairment is a common complication in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), although its prognostic significance remains unknown.

Objectives: This study determines the impact of early renal impairment on the clinical outcome of COVID-19.

Methods: Patients diagnosed with COVID-19 and hospitalized in Xiaogan Central Hospital from 20 January to 29 February 2020 were retrospectively included and grouped into two cohorts (cohort with normal renal function and cohort with renal insufficiency) based on the renal function detected on admission.

Department of Cardiology, Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University, Wuhan 430060, China ;Huanggang Institute of Translation Medicine, Huanggang, Hubei 438000, China ;Institute of Model Animal, Wuhan 430071, China.

Objective To explore the association between lipid profiles and left ventricular hypertrophy in a Chinese general population. Methods We conducted a retrospective observational study to investigate the relationship between lipid markers [including triglycerides, total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol, non-HDL-cholesterol, apolipoprotein A-I, apolipoprotein B, lipoprotein[a], and composite lipid profiles] and left ventricular hypertrophy. A total of 309,400 participants of two populations (one from Beijing and another from nationwide) who underwent physical examinations at different health management centers between 2009 and 2018 in China were included in the cross-sectional study.

A new rapid ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with linear trap quadrupole orbitrap mass spectrometry method was established for the qualitative analysis of absorbed ingredients and metabolites of Zhimu-Huangbai herb pair, which is used to treat type 2 diabetes mellitus. A total of 16 absorbed ingredients and 11 metabolites were identified in normal and type 2 diabetes mellitus rats, respectively. Such findings indicated that the diabetic model had no effect on the type of components in plasma.

Article Synopsis
  • The study analyzed the effects of surgery on breast cancer (BC) patients who only had bone metastases using data from the SEER database.
  • It found that patients who underwent surgery had longer median survival times compared to those who didn't, with breast-conserving surgery showing the most significant improvement in survival.
  • The conclusion suggests that primary surgery, especially when tumor burden is low, can enhance the survival of BC patients with bone metastasis, making breast-conserving surgery a preferable option.

Chylothorax caused by left atrial myxoma: A rare case report.

J Card Surg

December 2021

Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery, Xiaogan Hospital Affiliated to Wuhan University of Science and Technology, Xiaogan Central Hospital, Xiaogan, Hubei, PR China.

Background: Myxoma is the most common tumor of the heart that can cause embolism, obstruction, and cardiac failure, but rarely causes chylothorax. We herein report a case of chylothorax caused by left atrial myxoma, which responded to diuretic therapy and was subsequently cured by resecting cardiac myxoma.

Case Presentation: This is a case of a 63-year-old male with symptoms of cardiac insufficiency who was diagnosed with a left atrial myxoma.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the clinical characteristics and outcomes of coronavirus disease-19 (COVID-19) long-term nucleic acid positive patients (hereinafter referred to as CLTAPs).

Methods: Patients were recruited from the Xiaogan Central Hospital between 16 January 2020 and 28 March 2020. Among the 562 cases of patients with laboratory-identified COVID-19 infection by real-time polymerase chain reaction (qtPCR), 19 cases of COVID-19 patients with more than 41 days from the first to the last time of nucleic acid test were selected as the study group, and 76 cases of age- and gender-matched COVID-19 patients were selected as the control group (hereinafter referred to as C-CLTAPs).

Background: Increased activity of the NF-κB signaling pathway boosts the progression of retinopathy in diabetic rats.

Objectives: Using a bioinformatics website, we identified a site where miR-874 binds to the NF-κB p65. Therefore, we speculated that miR-874 might improve retinopathy in diabetic rats by inhibiting the NF-κB signaling pathway.
