November 2023

Hubei Key Laboratory of Diabetes and Angiopathy, School of Basic Medical Sciences, Xianning Medical College, Hubei University of Science and Technology, Xianning, China.

Chronic pain is the most common symptom for people who suffer from rheumatoid arthritis and it affects approximately 1% of the global population. Neuroinflammation in the spinal cord induces chronic arthritis pain. In this study, a collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) mice model was established through intradermally injection of type II collagen in complete Freund's adjuvant solution.

Recent evidence shows a close link between Parkinson's disease (PD) and cardiac dysfunction with limited treatment options. Mitophagy plays a crucial role in the control of mitochondrial quantity, metabolic reprogramming and cell differentiation. Mutation of the mitophagy protein Parkin is directly associated with the onset of PD.

Biofactors

February 2024

Hubei Key Laboratory of Diabetes and Angiopathy, Medicine Research Institute, Xianning Medical College, Hubei University of Science and Technology, Xianning, Hubei, China.

Cognitive impairment is increasingly recognized as an important comorbidity of diabetes progression; however, the underlying molecular mechanism is unclear. Dapagliflozin, an inhibitor of sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 (SGLT2), has shown promising effects against diabetes in rodent experiments and human clinical assays. This study aimed to determine the underlying mechanism and examine the effect of dapagliflozin on diabetic cognitive impairment.

Background: Due to the effectiveness and safety, acupuncture, one of the traditional therapies of Chinese medicine, has been widely used in clinical practice globally. A few systematic review or meta-analyses have proved its effectiveness and safety towards patients with cancer pain, while there are no syntheses among those evidence. The aim of this scoping review is to summarize the evidence from systematic reviews of acupuncture for the treatment of cancer pain and evaluate the breadth and methodological quality of these evidence as well.

Evaluating the Correlation of Hedgehog Pathway with Claudin-1 Expression in Invasive Breast Cancer.

Cell Mol Biol (Noisy-le-grand)

February 2023

Department of thyroid and breast surgery, Xianning Central Hospital, The First Affiliated Hospital of Hubei University of Science and Technology, Xianning, Hubei437000, China.

Being a heterogeneous disease, breast cancer illustrates different biological and phenotypic features which make its diagnosis and treatment challenging. This study aimed to evaluate the expression levels of crucial components of the Hedgehog signaling pathway, the correlation between the signal transducer Smo, and clinicopathologic features (lymph node metastasis and metastasis stage) in invasive breast carcinoma. Besides, the inverse correlation was considered between expression levels of Smo and Claudin-1.

Background: Breast cancer is one of the most malignant cancers. Increasing evidence suggests that circular RNAs (circRNAs) are involved in breast cancer progression through sponging microRNA (miRNA). However, the underlying molecular mechanisms of circ_0069094 in breast cancer are unclear.

Heterogeneous ribonucleoprotein AB (hnRNPAB) is one of the main members of the nuclear heterogeneous ribonucleoprotein family and plays a crucial role in the occurrence and development of tumours. A previous study by the authors demonstrated that hnRNPAB was highly expressed in colorectal cancer tissues and was closely associated with a poor prognosis of patients. However, the contribution of hnRNPAB to the tumorigenesis and drug resistance of colorectal cancer (CRC) stem cells (CSCs) remains elusive.

Stem cell-derived exosomes: emerging therapeutic opportunities for wound healing.

Stem Cell Res Ther

April 2023

Department of Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery, Tongji Hospital, Tongji Medical College, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, 1095 Jiefang Avenue, Wuhan, 430030, Hubei, China.

Wound healing is a dynamic and highly sequential process involving a series of overlapping spatial and temporal phases, including hemostasis, inflammation, proliferation, and tissue remodeling. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are multipotent stem cells with self-renewal, multidirectional differentiation potential, and paracrine regulation. Exosomes are subcellular vesicular components 30-150 nm in size and are novel carriers of intercellular communication in regulating the biological behaviors of skin cells.

Bone metastasis of cancer cells leads to severe pain by disrupting bone structure and inducing central sensitization. Neuroinflammation in the spinal cord plays a decisive role in the maintenance and development of pain. In the current study, male Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats are used to establish a cancer-induced bone pain (CIBP) model by intratibial injection of MRMT-1 rat breast carcinoma cells.

Glioma is an extremely aggressive primary brain tumor, which is highly resistant to chemotherapy, presenting a therapeutic challenge. Here, we explored the anti-glioma effects and the underlying mechanism of lycorine, an isoquinoline alkaloid isolated from lycoris on glioma cells. We found that lycorine could dose dependently inhibit C6 glioma cell growth and induce cell apoptosis and intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS) production.

Temperature sensitive nanogels for real-time imaging during transcatheter arterial embolization.

Des Monomers Polym

January 2023

School of Biomedical Engineering and Imaging, Xianning Medical College, Hubei University of Science and Technology, Xianning, PR China.

Several vascular embolization materials are commonly used in clinical practice, however, having application defects of varying degrees, such as poor intraoperative imaging and easy recanalization of embolized blood vessels, they are challenging for application during Transcatheter arterial embolization (TAE). Thus, an intraoperative visible vascular embolization material with good embolization effect and biocompatibility can improve transcatheter arterial embolization clinical efficacy to some extent. Our study aimed to synthesize a novel vascular embolization material that can achieve complete embolization of arterial trunks and peripheral vessels, namely poly (N-isopropyl acrylamide)--acrylic acid nanogel (NIPAM--AA).
