Article Synopsis
  • Glioma is a common and aggressive brain tumor linked to the dysregulation of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs), with EIF3J-AS1 being a novel lncRNA that has not been previously studied in glioma.
  • Researchers used various assays to investigate the role of EIF3J-AS1 in glioma, finding that it is overexpressed in glioma cells and its knockdown reduces malignant properties of these cells.
  • The study reveals that EIF3J-AS1 interacts with miR-1343-3p and ANXA11, forming a regulatory axis that promotes glioma progression, presenting a potential new target for therapeutic intervention.

Chest CT is emerging as a valuable diagnostic tool for clinical management of COVID-19 associated lung disease. Artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to aid in rapid evaluation of CT scans for differentiation of COVID-19 findings from other clinical entities. Here we show that a series of deep learning algorithms, trained in a diverse multinational cohort of 1280 patients to localize parietal pleura/lung parenchyma followed by classification of COVID-19 pneumonia, can achieve up to 90.

Disposable Isolation Device to Reduce COVID-19 Contamination During CT Scanning.

Acad Radiol

August 2020

Center for Interventional Oncology, Radiology and Imaging Sciences, NIH Clinical Center and National Cancer Institute, Center for Cancer Research, National Institutes of Health, Bethesda, MD 20892. Electronic address:

Rationale And Objectives: The use of chest computed tomography (CT) in the era of the COVID-19 pandemic raises concern regarding the transmission risks to patients and staff caused by CT room contamination. Meanwhile the Center for Disease Control guidance for air exchange in between patients may heavily impact workflows. To design a portable custom isolation device to reduce imaging equipment contamination during a pandemic.

Background: Patients with cancer are a high-risk population in the COVID-19 pandemic. We aimed to describe clinical characteristics and outcomes of patients with cancer and COVID-19, and examined risk factors for mortality in this population.

Methods: We did a retrospective, multicentre, cohort study of 205 patients with laboratory-confirmed severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection and with a pathological diagnosis of a malignant tumour in nine hospitals within Hubei, China, from Jan 13 to March 18, 2020.

Mounting studies have revealed that long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) deleted in lymphocytic leukemia 1 (DLEU1) positively regulated the initiation and development of various human malignant tumors. Nevertheless, the function and mechanism of DLEU1 in human glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) remain elusive and ill-defined. The current study was designed to highlight the functional role and disclose the underlying molecular mechanism by which DLEU1 regulated GBM development.

The impact of magnesium on risk of knee osteoarthritis (KOE) is still under investigation. This meta-analysis evaluated the relationship between magnesium and risk of KOE.A comprehensive search was performed to identify retrospective cohort study or cross-sectional study of the association between magnesium and KOE from the Cochrane library, PubMed, and Embase.

Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) is a growth factor crucial for neuronal survival, while its role in subarachnoid hemorrhage (SAH)-induced neuronal apoptosis remains unclear. The aim of the present study was to investigate whether administering exogenous BDNF can protect against neuronal apoptosis and neurological deficits following SAH in a rat model. The BDNF level was found to be significantly decreased in the basal cortex at 6, 12, 24, 48 and 72 h following SAH.

This study aimed to evaluate the prognosis of pulmonary sequestration (PS) by measuring congenital cystic adenomatoid malformation volume ratio (CVR) value in fetal congenital PS. The fetal CVR in 49 cases of fetal PS diagnosed by prenatal ultrasound in Xiangyang No. 1 People's Hospital from March 2010 to June 2017 were measured, and the clinical outcomes were observed.

BACKGROUND The objective of the study was to identify risk factors for poor prognosis of cervical spinal cord injury (SCI) with subaxial cervical fracture-dislocation after surgical treatment. MATERIAL AND METHODS A total of 60 cervical SCI patients with subaxial cervical fracture-dislocation were primarily included in the study from April 2013 to April 2018. All the enrolled subjects received surgical treatment.

Attenuated total reflection-Fourier transform infrared (ATR-FTIR) spectroscopy is a label-free, non-destructive analytical technique for biochemical analysis of macromolecular components within tissue samples. Cadmium (Cd) and mono-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (MEHP), a primary metabolite of di-(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate, are present ubiquitously in the environment and in organisms, and have adverse impacts on ecosystems and human health. Herein we employed ATR-FTIR analysis to identify biomolecular changes in rat liver, spleen, lung and kidney after prepubertal exposure to Cd and MEHP.

Numerous studies have indicated that microRNAs (miRNAs) regulate signalling molecules by acting as oncogenes or tumour-suppressor genes in retinoblastoma (RB). Therefore, investigation of the expression pattern, biological roles and associated mechanisms of cancer-related miRNAs in RB may provide novel therapeutic targets for patients with this disease. miRNA-655 (miR-655) has been reported to be aberrantly expressed in many types of cancers.

The objective of this study was to investigate the protective effects of scopolamine and penehyclidine hydrochloride on acute cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury after cardiopulmonary resuscitation, and the effect on cytokine levels. Eighty patients with cardiac arrest admitted to our hospital from June 2011 to December 2015 were recruited and randomly divided into two groups (n=40 each). Following cardiopulmonary resuscitation, scopolamine was administered in the control group, whereas penehyclidine hydrochloride was administered in the observation group.

In our study, we aimed to extract dysregulated pathways in human monocytes infected by (LM) based on pathway interaction network (PIN) which presented the functional dependency between pathways. After genes were aligned to the pathways, principal component analysis (PCA) was used to calculate the pathway activity for each pathway, followed by detecting seed pathway. A PIN was constructed based on gene expression profile, protein-protein interactions (PPIs), and cellular pathways.

Background: The need for an anti-osteoporotic agent is in high demand since osteoporosis contributes to high rates of disability or impairment (high osteoporotic fracture), morbidity and mortality. Hence, the present study is designed to evaluate the protective effects of vanillic acid (VA) against bilateral ovariectomy-induced osteoporosis in female Sprague-Dawley (SD) rats.

Materials And Methods: Forty healthy female adult SD rats were separated in to four groups with sham-operated control with bilateral laprotomy (Sham; = 10), bilateral overiectomy (OVX; = 10) group, OVX rats were orallay administrated with 50 mg/kg b.
