Purpose: Aging alters the function of the lacrimal gland and disrupts the balance of the microenvironment on the ocular surface, eventually leading to aqueous-tear-deficient dry eye. Mitophagy has been reported to play an important role in aging, but the underlying mechanism remains unclear.

Methods: The young (6 weeks) and middle-aged (12 months) male C57BL/6J mice were used in this study, and mitophagy agonist rapamycin and inhibitor Mdivi-1 were used in in vivo experiments.

The study's goals are to fabricate PLGA nanoparticles (PNPs) loaded with apigenin (AP) and adenosine (AD) using a microfluidic preparation method to a standard emulsification method and investigate the possible heart-protective effects of AP-AD PNPs made using the emulsification method. Compared to microfluidics, the emulsification method fabricated small-size nanoparticles, which are better at encapsulating drugs, retaining more drugs, and having a low viscosity for the myocardial infarction (MI) injection. TheMI model was developed using SD rats injected under the skin with 85 mg/kg doxorubicin (DOX) for 2 days.

Biomark Res

November 2024

Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, The Second Xiangya Hospital of Central South University, No.139 Middle Renmin Road, Changsha, Hunan, 410011, China.

Atherosclerosis is a chronic lipid-driven inflammatory disease characterized by infiltration of large numbers of macrophages. The progression of the disease is closely related to the status of macrophages in atherosclerotic plaques. Recent advances in plaque analysis have revealed a subpopulation of macrophages that express high levels of triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells 2 (TREM2).

Article Synopsis
  • Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) can lead to pulmonary fibrosis (PLF), and the study investigates the role of a specific circular RNA, hsa_circ_0006892, in these conditions.
  • The research involved analyzing serum samples from 203 ARDS patients to assess the levels of hsa_circ_0006892 and its potential as a diagnostic marker, alongside understanding its interaction with the microRNA miR-486-3p.
  • Findings revealed that hsa_circ_0006892 is downregulated in ARDS and PLF patients, distinguishing them from controls, and suggested that it may influence disease progression through the miR-486-3p and associated genetic pathways, particularly the Ras signaling pathway.
