The pathophysiology of cardiovascular disease (CVD) is complex and presents a serious threat to human health. Cardiomyocyte loss serves a pivotal role in both the onset and progression of CVD. Among various forms of programmed cell death, ferroptosis, along with apoptosis, autophagy and pyroptosis, is closely linked to the advancement of CVD.

Background: Bone mineral density (BMD) and monocyte-to-lymphocyte ratio (MLR) were recently identified as novel risk factors for patients with several malignancies. The objective of this study was to validate the role of preoperative BMD/MLR as a potential prognostic biomarker in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) undergoing liver resection.

Methods: This investigation enrolled 442 adult patients diagnosed with HCC who underwent liver resection.

Introduction: The alveolar bone defect often was hardly healed naturally by the body's repair mechanism. Implant placement was the most favored option for replacing a missing tooth in the current times, and the preservation of alveolar bone was vital. Tooth components, especially dentin, were very similar to alveolar bone components and could be used for promoting the alveolar bone regeneration process in reconstructive dentistry.

Recent investigations have underscored the epigenetic modulation of the immune response; however, the interplay between RNA N6-methyladenosine (mA) modification and immunomodulation in head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSC) remains relatively unexplored. To bridge this knowledge gap, we undertook an extensive examination of the potential contributions of mA modification and immunomodulation in HNSC. We amalgamated and deduplicated 27 mA -related genes (m6AGs) and 1342 immune regulation-related genes (IMRGs), resulting in a comprehensive dataset encompassing 1358 genes.

Li Qi Huo Xue Di Wan (LQHXDW), a Chinese herbal medicine, is commonly used to treat symptoms such as palpitations, chest tightness, chest pain, and shortness of breath. However, its potential to reduce ischemia or hypoxia-induced cardiac injury and remodeling, along with the precise mechanisms involved, remains unclear. This study aims to investigate the effects of LQHXDW on cardiac injury and remodeling induced by ischemia or hypoxia, both in vivo and in vitro, and to elucidate the underlying mechanisms.

Article Synopsis
  • Hypertension and type 2 diabetes contribute to an increased risk of premature death and related diseases, particularly affecting the same population.
  • An expert consensus using the GRADE approach was formed to create strategies aimed at reducing cardiovascular and kidney-related deaths while minimizing treatment burdens for adults with type 2 diabetes.
  • A multidisciplinary team developed 12 evidence-based recommendations focusing on screening, monitoring, lifestyle changes, and medication for individuals with type 2 diabetes, specifically addressing those who also have hypertension.

NAT10 promotes liver lipogenesis in mouse through N4-acetylcytidine modification of Srebf1 and Scap mRNA.

Lipids Health Dis

November 2024

Department of Endocrinology, The Third Xiangya Hospital of Central South University, No. 138 Tongzipo Road, Yuelu District, Changsha, Hunan, 410013, People's Republic of China.

Background: Metabolic dysfunction associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD), closely linked to excessive lipogenesis, induces chronic liver disease. MASLD often cause other metabolic diseases, such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes and obesity. However, the mechanism of N-acetyltransferase 10 (NAT10)-mediated N4-acetylcytidine (ac4C) mRNA modification in lipogenesis of MASLD has not been fully elucidated.

Predicting lymph node metastasis in papillary thyroid carcinoma with Hashimoto's thyroiditis using regression and network analysis.

Sci Rep

November 2024

Division of Thyroid Surgery, General Surgery Department, Xiangya Hospital, Central South University, No.87 Xiangya Road, Changsha, 410008, Hunan, China.

The comprehensive study of the relationship between lymph node metastasis (LNM) and its associated factors in patients with concurrent papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) and Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT) remains insufficient. Building upon the initial investigation of factors associated with LNM in patients with concurrent PTC and HT, we further analyzed the complex relationships between different severity indicators of LNM and these associated factors. This study included patients confirmed PTC with HT who underwent total thyroidectomy at Xiangya Hospital, from January 2020 to December 2021.

October 2024

Key Laboratory of Infectious Diseases Research in South China, Ministry of Education, Nanfang Hospital, Southern Medical University, Guangzhou510515, China.

In chronic hepatitis B (CHB) patients with previous 96-week treatment with tenofovir amibufenamide (TMF) or tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (TDF), we investigated the safety profile of sequential TMF treatment from 96 to 144 weeks. Enrolled subjects that previously assigned (2:1) to receive either 25 mg TMF or 300 mg TDF with matching placebo for 96 weeks received extending or switching TMF treatment for 48 weeks. Safety profiles of kidney, bone, metabolism, body weight, and others were evaluated.

In recent years, artificial intelligence (AI), especially deep learning models, has increasingly been integrated into diagnosing and treating diabetic retinopathy (DR). From delving into the singular realm of ocular fundus photography to the gradual development of proteomics and other molecular approaches, from machine learning (ML) to deep learning (DL), the journey has seen a transition from a binary diagnosis of "presence or absence" to the capability of discerning the progression and severity of DR based on images from various stages of the disease course. Since the FDA approval of IDx-DR in 2018, a plethora of AI models has mushroomed, gradually gaining recognition through a myriad of clinical trials and validations.

  • Accelerated brain aging is observed in first-episode schizophrenia patients, particularly in those who do not respond well to antipsychotic treatment.
  • Patients treated with risperidone showed pronounced brain age gaps compared to healthy individuals, but this gap did not worsen significantly over the treatment period.
  • Measuring the brain age gap early on can help predict later treatment resistance and inform decisions regarding second-line treatments for schizophrenia.

Backgrounds And Aims: Our previous study (CCCG-BNHL-2015) reported the treatment strategies and outcomes of pediatric B-cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (B-NHL) in China which showed that children in low-risk groups already have a dramatically favorable prognosis. However, for high-risk groups, the prognosis still needs to be improved. In this study, we aimed to identify the factors influencing prognosis in high-risk groups (stage III and stage IV).

This study aimed to identify novel serological targets and investigate immune responses in patients with non-infectious uveitis, focusing on differences between initial onset and recurrent episodes. Differential gene expression analysis, immunocyte typing and T-cell receptor (TCR) gene analysis were conducted on RNA-sequenced peripheral blood samples from healthy individuals (n = 6) and non-infectious uveitis patients (n = 12), divided into 6 patients each at initial onset and recurrent stages. Peripheral blood T-cell types were analysed using flow cytometry.
