Telencephalin protects PAJU cells from amyloid beta protein-induced apoptosis by activating the ezrin/radixin/moesin protein family/phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase/protein kinase B pathway.

Telencephalin is a neural glycoprotein that reduces apoptosis induced by amyloid beta protein in the human neural tumor cell line PAJU. In this study, we examined the role of the ezrin/radixin/moesin protein family/phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase/protein kinase B pathway in this process. Western blot analysis demonstrated that telencephalin, phosphorylated ezrin/radixin/moesin and phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase/protein kinase B were not expressed in PAJU cells transfected with empty plasmid, while they were expressed in PAJU cells transfected with a telencephalin expression plasmid.

Methods And Results: We first studied CD164 expression in biopsies from colorectal cancer, breast, and ovary cancer patients by semi-quantitative immunohistochemistry, and found that CD164 was strongly expressed in all the colorectal cancer samples compared to the matching normal colon tissues.

After separation of BMMNC from 7 patients with multiple myeloma, BAFF/APRIL mRNA expression in BMMNC and U266 cell line was detected by real-time PCR after treated with dexamethasone 100, 200 µg/ml, methylprednisolone 100, 200 µg/ml, bortezomib 0.1 µg/ml alone and dexamethasone or methylprednisolone combined with bortezomib respectively for 48 hours.

Herein, we report the case of a patient who was diagnosed with an orthodromic atrioventricular reentrant tachycardia that was caused by an unusual combination of quadruple atrioventricular nodal pathways and an atrioventricular accessory pathway. Radiofrequency catheter ablation of the accessory pathway successfully eliminated the arrhythmias and the patient's symptoms.

Methods: Autobiographical memory, emotion and cognitive executive function of 60 depressed patients and 60 healthy controls were assessed with autobiographical memory test (AMT), Hamilton depression scale (HAMD), Beck depression inventory (BDI), Beck anxiety inventory (BAI), hospital anxiety and depression scale (HAD), arrow-task stroop test (ATST), Wisconsin card sorting test (WCST), Backward masking test (BMT) and continuous performance test (CPT).

Results: The specific memory of the depressed group was significantly less than that of the control group, and was negatively related with the negative emotion score, the time of anterograde and retrograde reading of ATST, and the time difference of ATST.

Effects of four Bifidobacteria on obesity in high-fat diet induced rats.
